It can do both things. I think that might be down to some error on your settings or something?

Have you tried to open Cubase with fresh settings?

On my setup, it's as simple as clicking buttons on and off. It has a loop one, an align to project's beats one, one that tells it to wait for play to start and such. All works flawlessly here. Never had an issue with it.

How do you mean? I've just installed Cubase 8? And my Cubase 5 was re-installed not so long ago as well.

There are like 3 buttons on the left side and 3 buttons on the right side, above the sample-display. On the left side there is a loop button but when I click on that button it just loops in the same length as the sample. so if the sample is 200ms, the loop will be 200ms no matter what other buttons i click.

I'm starting to suspect my CPU is to shitty to run a DAW properly.. I don't remember having any problems in Studio One's sample-viewer though.

Hey guys this one is really a tough one for me. After almost a half year I almost give this up.
Automation with a midi controller or better said the behaviour of the movement.
I don't know why, but somehow I can't write any automation in Cubase properly.
The strange thing is in Renoise it works like a charm, that's the point why I develop in that DAW, which is certainly a good thing but anyhow it really sucks that I can't automate stuff in Cubase as I wish.

The thing is : no matter what I tried, (and belive me I tried a lot. I even contacted the developers of my 2 controllers and what not), cubase accepts all of controllers, But when writing automation, the fader go not as they should. Either on my Korg Nano Control, Roland PCR-500 or on my Oxygen8.

It's like the writing up from values 0-64 works in a normal way (mostly) and then after they reach the half of the range, up from 65 they jump immediatily to 127 - that absolute value.

Sometimes it's like I have only tree values for automation, like 0,64 or 127, but that could come from specific parameters in some VSTi's . However, no matter what I do or how smooth I try to automate, it does not work.

Looked up in Manual, have scanned the youtube and tried all possible but could not find a solution. There must be sort of automation mode-setup I hope.
Something that can change the behaviour of the movement of the controllers.

Dunno wtf is going on here in Cubase. Sucks. At some point when composing it sucks to bounce a part of a work in Cubase and import it again and again to Renoise. Actually it doesn't really work like that, it's too much time consuming and not enough to make a decent track. At least at some point in your work.

If anyone can help I'd be very glad. I looked at my system all should be ok in driver manager etc.
I hope it's really a thing in some preferences that I don't have a clue of. I tried all possible I could, also in the device manager, of course no problem to connect any midi controler and set it up properly via the learn and pick up function. Just the damn automation has a wierd mode that is useless.

I want to make one shortcut (makro), or an action in the Logical Editor, that connects the following actions:

1. Cut the audio event in 16ths.

2. Delete each second of them

3. Generate a fade out of a few ms on the remained 16ths.

How would I do that?

I think no makro is possible for it.
I also guess, that this is only possible via the Logical Editor.

Has anyone used Logical Editor and can share a bit of help?

and another shorcut for a little change of 2. step.
2. Delete all uneven 16th.. 1,3,5,7 etc. or maybe with 8th notes. I guess I would set up a few different variations that could save me time in various scenearios. I'd use it for editing after Render in Place.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

If you select the scissors tool and press alt with quantize engaged, it will automatically cut both audio or midi to the length of the cut throughout the event

I think it might be possible to make a macro for it with some lateral thinking, maybe. I think I know what you're on about here and it's useful - I'll look into it a bit later.

But myself I use this scissor "trick" a lot, and also the mute tool and that stuff. Sometimes I engage the auto fade thing, so as to avoid clicks from all the edits I make.

So these two things will probably help you. The auto fade editor menu is similar to the normal audio fade menu, you can set the length and curvature as you like and it will apply it all automatically.

the last part, I'm not sure, but I believe there's something within those lines on the macros menu already, maybe close enough for some reverse engineering.

p.s. I like this line of though a lot eheh

yeah I use the sciccor + alt trick all the time. It's brilliant! Also cool for selfmade gated sounds/pads etc.

I also have set up shortcuts for notelenghts values (for quantization). I have there alt and the arrow up or down, that way I change, when I slide through all possible notelenghts from 1 bar to 128th dotted etc and choose what I want. It's makes things faster too.

I feel it still could be a bit faster when it comes to my workflow. Like one shotcut or two clicks and the job is done
That would save me lots of time and keep my creative flow alive.
Probably I would produce a few more variations of bassline in a nutshell, without spending too much time just on editing. I often bounce 16 bars blocks of 16ths, and than the damn editing begins..

I've looked up in the macros and there are already a few but not for that case.
Also I checked up Logical Editor presets and couldn't find something for it but I'd like to say that there are a lot of really interesting presets. For instance preset "Kill C Major" and other unusual ones. Kill C Major should be kill white notes, no matter what key or scale you are using. Could be usefull sometimes. I'll try to learn a bit the Logical Editor in Cubase.
Have a nice weekend

Smoky weekend here. I found it out how it works in Logical Editor - there is a preset that one just need to tweak a bit than it's exactly this but I forgot that Logical Editor only works for midi Files and not for audio files, so as for now my case is unsolved.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

If you're not keeping all the 1/16th, but half of them, that's 1/8th>select all and shorten length - until something better comes up.

Smoke on the water ma friend. Keep n it real eheh

Looking forward to the upgrade of Retrologue. Most used Cubase Native synth for sure here.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

all my shortcuts got lost after the upgrade :/ that sucks a bit tbh.
I can try it in a week since tommorow me going to Teneriffa for a small relaxation. A bit wierd that all my settings and shortcuts are away.. I also set up shortcuts for different scenes for 2 Monitors and right size and lots of things for fast switching.. like mixer on one side on other arrangment or all things on one monitor in a nice size and on other synth etc .. all this shit got lost.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

That really sucks mate.

I think it all went down smoothly here - from what I can remember. I'd definitely be mad if it would have trashed my shortcuts as well.

Don't know when Cubase 9 is due to come out, but it will occur some time during this year, no? It's been like this for some time, I think. If 8 is something to go for, here, I think I'll probably keep the current version along with the new one. My impression with 8 was that it was a bit too buggy for my taste, out of the box and only got really efficient very close to the launch of the paid for 8.5 version. Since we're talking about a really complex software here, I think it's kind of ok and expectable.

But we producers need to keep it real, no? So 8.5 is so far, to me, the best choice for making music right now. I'm not even sure what features would be in the menu for 9. On the instruments department, I guess I wouldn't mind the inclusion of a rather simple sampler with integrated options for it, like with Logic's ESX24 - where you have options like, convert all this audio slices into a sampler library from the arrange window.

Fullscreen for all windows would be quite a nice touch too. They still need to worry about big dpi screens (aka on mac land as retina compatibility) and other minor technical stuff, some of it still concerning window managing.

But all in all, I think you're going to like it a lot. I've grown used to the new ways of editing on midi and arrangement, no matter how minor they feel when one tries them at first, it ends up speeding up the workflow and feel quite natural after a while.

hey just wanna say it is possible to restore the old settings and transport it to new versions.
Here is a link with instructions :

https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/cubase-and-nuendo-program-preferences-files-in-detail/

or copy & paste from this side:

Cubase and Nuendo Program Preferences Files in Detail

This article lists all the files which are storing program settings or preferences on your system for current Cubase and Nuendo versions. Some of the files listed here might not be available in Cubase Essential/Studio/Artist/AI/LE though.

The folder for these files can be found at these locations:

Mac OS X

Quit all programs.
Go to "*Your Username*/Library/Preferences" and locate the folder which is named the same as your Cubase/Nuendo version.
Please note: Since Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), the user's Library folder is hidden! Here is how to access it: In the menu bar of Mac OS X click on "Go". While the menu is folded out holding down the [ alt ] key (options) will show the "Library" entry.
Windows

Close all programs.
Open the "Run" command prompt.
Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8: Press the Windows logo key + R simultaneously.
Windows XP: Select 'Run' from the Start menu.
In the command line of the 'Run' window, enter this path: %appdata%/Steinberg
Locate the folder which is named the same as your Cubase/Nuendo version.

I need to say that this upgrade was definetly worth the money. ALl the small details are really more than usefull. Lots of time savers and elegant solutions. Retrologue becomes more and more a flagship. Really love this synth now. I make now a track where all channels are made just with Retrologue, kick hihats snares pads & Leads just everything. I more and more think Retro is enough for making good kicks. Punchbox still has some extra nice tings like audio input for samples, which lets you generate just the click for kickdrum in a nutshell from your hihats sample etc etc. But Retro actually is enough, one can make clicks there aswell. All nicely onw synthesized. Ahh my euphoria for Cubase 8,5 is now really high.
Next stop for me will be probably Padshop full version. I like to be able to trhow there my voice and manipulate it in a Granular manner. I think the upgrade is affordable. Hope 30 bucks or sth like this.
Also on my system, Cubase is now really 100% faster.. it is somehow much more stable no joke. It is somehow riped and works like it should. Excellent.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden
