Confusion about double artist name

Sorry to write this, I do not know which other forum or site to turn to. My name is Evelina, aka Akbal, been dj-ing and producing for 14 years by this name now. Got a full album ready, just need to get it mastered and spent LOTS of time into it. I even got my name registered. Today I was very sorry to see that some sort of free EP has been released, called 'the fourth dimension' by some person calling himself Akbal. I was trying to find more infos on google on this person, but there's no facebook, no myspace, nothing... But in the middle of all of it I did already receive e-mails saying how my ep was so dissapointing.. I hope you can immagine the frustration and hope somebody can send me infos on this person. His ep is to be found easily on google. Maybe I was using a wrong title for the topic, I would just very much like to know who this person behind the ep is. Registering a name has costed money, and people register, so no-one else can use it. Wouldn't it get confusing if people would start using already existing names all over? But never mind, was asking for infos, but if the first answer already was that 'nobody cares', than really never mind. Peace out. |

Sorry to hear about this incident..maybe next time you should really share your unreleased music with only people you know / trust.
as far as i see, no one is claiming to be akbal..your ep has just landed on pirate sites/forums before getting released..find out who released your music without your permission and be careful next time.

As I read the original post, the EP isn't made by the "real" Akbal (the poster in this topic), but another artist calling him/herself Akbal.
Must indeed be a bad situation, but how was the "fake" Akbal supposed to know that the name is already taken? I've seen your name before in relation to DJ'ing, but can't find any releases on either psyshop or beatport using that name, so I guess the other artist thought the name was available.

Quick reply.. Yesterday, after receiving the first e-mails telling me about this Akbal-release, I got somehow emotional and wrote this topic.. My mistake.. I should learn to seperate gathering infos from my personal emotions. Waking up this morning I realised I should have kept all the 'extra' infos for myself and should have just asked for infos about the background of the artist.. No-one can turn back the clock.. Yet still, what I was looking for was the name of the person behind this release. I hope some of you will understand that if a person spends years preparing something, performing live and dj-sets to promote the music, even paying for a registration of the name, and than another person shows up and making people think these people using the same name are the same, is not what has been worked on.. Don't know why certain people have to behave in a way that's so full of hateret, maybe I do not love Pavel enough??? Stupid joke.. Anyways.. Already feeling sorry of opening this topic, wish it could be deleted.. Love to all of you, and please, use google to find a new name.. |

Realy sad hearing your story .
1 . Didt understand one point in , Did the other Akbal release his music or yours , Make it clear .
2 . If i understand well so its all about the name , So this is not an big problam (Theres 1,000's new names wating for you somwhere outthere .. Dont give up !!!) , This things can happen and i can feel your feeling but you should always remember we living in a big world so all can happen (Maybe change and have your own unique 1 .. What you think ?) .
Anyway you dont have be sad or angry .. Keep writing music with an deferent name and god be with you .. Amen ..

Tricky situation. First to market usually wins the title... in this case the other Akbal seems to have started in 2009, long before this free EP (unless "My Passion" is your song):

Best thing to do is track them down and have an open conversation about it. Seems like you have a legitimate and long-standing claim to the name despite not having released that album. Maybe the other Akbal will be reasonable or you can work something else out?

one possibility is to release as 'DJ Akbal' given your history as a deejay or maybe even Evelina Akbal <- kind of harmonic.
Or just repeat a few vowels. Aakbal, considered good luck in the east.
It's just unlucky but given it's a five letter name possibility of someone else coming across was high anyway... there's even a label out there called Akbal.

At the end of the day the internet is just mass information, if you've played in front of 15000 people as Akbal it solidifies what you do a lot more rather than some digital EP release or a google page rank, which you're on top of btw.
