I Strongly object to the use of the word donation in flyers when the contribution is not on a Voluntary basis.

Donations are made voluntarily whereas tickets have to be bought on a mandatory basis to ensure entry to events.

The word donation should only be used when no one is turned away from an event on the basis his paying ability.

Flyers with the mandatory Donation concept are definitely misleading to someone who comes to an event to check it out thinking that payment is optional and then is forced to pay to avoid embarassment.

What do veteran trancers think about this??           You may think you can fly..but you better not try :)

famiable, some organizers may have to put 'donation' on the flyer for legal reasons.

and I'm too lazy to explain right now, someone else can

@Rich

Your reasoning still doesnt justify using that language .specially for people who come to the event for the first time just because of the flyers they see. Am i wrong in saying that??

I am curious to elaborate. What does being donation based get you in terms of rights, and what countries is this true or not true in?

i believe that in many US cities there are very complex laws regarding nightclubs. IIn philadelphia is very expensive for a club to get a license to be open past 2am, however, what if it is not a nightclub but simply a social hall or social club whose "members" like to stay late. This is the legal loophole that many venues use and as such they require attendees to sign up for their club at the entrance. I would imagine in other cities if there is an admission then it is a nightclub and needs a special license. a donation places itunder a different label. but that is just speculation.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

"donations" can be tax deductable and cant be taxed by the federal and/or state government. 50% of the time, this is a very dishonest way of saving money.

at leaste, this is my experience.

edit: i should note that i have NOT seen this done with trance related events. lets not start.

Well if it is a donation basis party, it has no "comercial purpouse" so no one can stop the party. It is as if it was privet.
Eg: No one can stop your b-day party or any kind of celebration but if you charge for it... than you need a licence and alll the paper work.....

Cheers!!!           "open your mind....you might just see that there isn't anything to be seen"

Well i find free outdoor parties. But if you do not donate, you're an ass. And why do you need big names for free party? Big names doesen't mean the best music.

people coming to a goaparty coz it's free are most of time crappeople!!!!

people with open mind and enjoying goa music will like to pay a fair price coz they understand the importance of supporting orgasnization, coz they know that if costs are not covered next time there will be no party, and they like goaparty so they will pay.

i find right to write donation coz of legal problems even if you have a fixed entry fee.

the nice thing about a party is the familiar atmosfhere and if you don't help with entry fee for all the efforts of organization then you're an applehole, you don't fucking care and you won't probably bring any positive energy so stay home!!!!!!

but if you don't have any legal problems then write entry fee so people won't come just because it's for free, but coz they care... ;-)

@zafer

I am not saying that people should not contribute to the finances of parties if they come intentionally to the party and love Goa..if you want the scene to continue, you should support the scene. On the other hand, in order for the scene to grow, people should be encouraged to attend and the Term "Donation" on the flyers gives a wrong impression to people if they show up for the first time and end up having to pay even if they dont like the music.

Personally, I think that no one should be deprived of attending goa parties just because of lack of money..it is against the culture of Goa in my opinion..people can contribute to parties in other ways than money e.g. giving their time and labor effort which is crucial for good parties. Also a good crowd is crucial for the Vibe of any Goa party.

What do other people think?

Hey, famiable...If you like the concept of free (as in no payment) parties so much, why not put one on yourself?

Remember you will need at a minimum:
A sound system complete with decks and mixer
If it is outdoors, a generator and some cover in case of bad weather
Some lights if it is at night including safety lighting
Decor
Transport and fuel for that and for the generators
DJs and/or live acts
Safety and first aid equipment
Water

Good luck, let us all know where and when and we'll all turn up to take advantage of your amazing generosity in throwing a party for us all!

Of course, we are only coming to check it out first, so we might donate something if we stay....

@fushion Julz

Someone is getting personal ..isnt he??:) i think you should read my post a little bit more carefully and then make innuendos..lol

People should not take this thread as a attack on orgs who throw parties with gr8 vibes..all I am saying is that no Goa lover should be left out from a gathering just on the basis on money..anything wrong with that?
