i think the free djsets online are stopping me from buying albums until last year i used to buy about 4-5 cds from saiko or psyshop every month or so...but this year the free dj sets have begun to please me more...for a lot of them have the flow i like and so it makes my life easier...i am sure many have resorted to this infact i dont even care about track names no longer nor artists just some bangin music is good for me especially if its free           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive

This makes sense, I was concerned about this issue some time ago (long before opening the DJ Set Section here), I mean, it is funny to see the same people who complain about mp3 downloading just give all their best tracks (including unreleased) for free (they actually ask you please to download it), well mixed and they even pay the server expenses...

I talked to some labels and artists and they said it is good promotion, which means they're probably expecting you to buy the stuff if you like it.

I think this is one the best ways to promote music.

And is very fun also.
I love listening to "well mixed" dj sets!

defintely a good way to promote your music. you can promote your music in mixes because it is difficult to be able to reuse it other than just for a listening capacity.

Since just about everybody has access to be able to download almost any track that they want anyway, you might as well get your music out there as much as possible.

I personally enjoy listening to well done mixes more than single tracks. The flow i guess is what makes it better for me.

Hippies dont give a crap to music so they dont buy it. Simple. Countries like mine (Portugal), and especially Brasil have the worst music lovers the world has.

Huge communities who entitle themselves as "music lovers", but the only thing they do is take drugs and rave until their head is totally messed up.

The problem is the public. No serious people, no sales.

I dont see House music with a problem as big as this one.

But the worse are the dj's, Brasilian ones are the worse, i have quite a few stories of traders who keep fucking around with the labels who just try to work. So, i also stopped buying music, just to see if trance music dies by itself. I wont be paying anymore to something that wont have a future. So i gave up.

I agree with Mr. Gordon. But it's not general, you know that. Anywhere you look, you'll see both kinds of people.

We also have many real music lovers, who do lots of effort to make things better around here.

Regards!

To be honest, I completely agree that this is the best way to promote music, of course if You are a DJ or Live Act.
But, as far for psytrance music, I don't think that there are enough quality mixes. If you look at other genres of electronic music (house, techno, d'n'b), you can find big name artist mixes from almost every party they have played.
For example, if I check the web I'm almost sure that I could find John Digweed's (or U name it), last weekend set from some club or venue and download it, or even find a complete tracklist.
Again, as far for psytrance, I can find mixes only from breaking thru artists, or maybe some radio guest mixes.
I would really like if there's more DJ/Live mixes on the web. Till then, I guess Raja's stash bag's or Goa Gill sets will do the job

this is so wrong and bad thing to say man. you have "labeled" a mass of people into drugs users. people like music! this is why they come. for sure they also like drugs with the music but not the whole crowd and not everybody takes drug till they dont even know what they are listening too

An example of psybient's foothold within the "chill" market can be seen in the success of Entheogenic's second album, Spontaneous Illumination. In November of 2003 it went to Number 1 on the German "Chill-Out" Charts, where it remained at Number 1 for 8 weeks. The album stayed in the Top 10 for an additional 12 weeks.

Personally I feel that a lot of the labels should go to releasing their music as digital downloads. There's sooo much music out there right now, but the quality has gone down since the saturation has gone up. Anyone with a computer, a few plugins, and a sequencer can make this music. That's exactly why I think sales have been hurt. Personally I hate spending $14 + shipping from saikosounds for only 2 or 3 good songs. It's good to see labels like DARK, Iboga, Trishula, Geomagnetic.tv and a few others partnering up with digital download sites to offer their catalogs as digital downloads. Pay for what you want and leave the filler tracks & crap to collect dust - to each their own of course           Brian - Uhm
