With how responsible our crew is with these gatherings, including such "irresponsibilities," you mention, one session of balloon releasing shouldn't be frowned upon.
After all, this is to celebrate the life of someone close to me, and how I relate this to others.

I think you could've thought of something more productive to comment on in this forum than making a remark about how this one gesture that includes everyone at the gathering is environmentally unfriendly...especially as it is for the sake of something quite personal + moving, not for decoration.

The release is to be done by every individual, with small groupings of balloons given to each person or group at the gathering, and then at a specific moment at sunrise, much like Earthdance's Prayer for Peace, the release will be synchronized.

Glad the first thing you thought of was how irresponsible this is and not its true meaning or purpose. Next time maybe look at the bigger picture.

Than I think your gesture is a selfish move and will continue to frown whenever I read or hear such irresponsibility. I don't think anyone has an excuse to blatantly litter the natural world.

Why avoid my question with such defense? Could it be that there truly is a "better" way to commemorate the dead that has a much less negative impact on the "living".

I wonder...

Many apologies for your taking this so personal...I got the idea from a friend's mother's funeral and thought it was a nice way to do our sunrise gesture in a great way as one of our decor artists does balloon art.
But, clearly this is a way for you to save the world, one board post at a time, so sorry I offended you in any way, shape, form, or fashion.
Selfishness has absolutely ZERO to do with this, so thank you for the personal shot...I admire your arrogance in not even knowing me, any of my beliefs or understanding, so maybe check us out before posting such insensitive remarks.           <~/ALEXANDER\~>

Absolutely, but we humans also have the gift of choice. I believe you, Alexander, took this personal when I questioned the proposed action. I was merely wondering why you couldn't do something with less enviro impact by using something organic or alternative for the commemoration. Obviously that was more of a challenge then trying to justify the action to me.

Your choice is obviously justified in your own mind. And you're obviously going to do what you want. But I think I'd have to be putting forth MUCH more and different efforts to "save the world". I'm just scratching my head at the contradictory nature of some of the local "trance" community in this area. What's strange is that you're insinuating insult about my caring of the land. Nice.

My problem with the action of releasing the balloons is that no one can responsibly collect all the litter that each and every balloon turns into once they are out of sight and out of mind. Not to mention animals getting intestinal issues, possibly death, from eating crap that shouldn't be in their environment to begin with because you can't account for all of it once it leaves your site/sight? I mean, your balloons could very well land somewhere that has never been tainted by scattered litter JUST becuase it's travelling by air from the hand of the intentional human being. How is that not irresponsible when you actually think about it?

So, here is your thread back. I know it didn't make a difference but at least I can sleep better knowing I tried.

Alright, point well taken.

You're right, the out of sight out of mind situation doesn't work, so I too, am now scratching my head as to how to handle the situation...obviously I need an alternative....which I will find.

However, please never question my intentions in collaborating a true CO Trance community..I have spent more sweat, blood, + tears organizing the proper way to handle all of this than most will spend "organizing" a single event of any nature in their lifetimes, so please excuse my lashing out...for all the wrong reasons, really.
I guess I got all bunged up at the first post after the posting of the gathering, sacred to myself and some of my close friends who have helped me, being about that as opposed to being a reaction at the spirituality behind the organization of the gathering.

So yes, you did in fact, make a difference.           <~/ALEXANDER\~>
