Greetings !

Questions:

How long do you spend in the chill-out compared to the main room ??

Do you like the Chill-Out to be a "Move or Snooze" place ?

What chills you on ?

Chill out room is for chilling... doh!           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

I think Natasha was enquiring as to the different sort of chill out sounds that people like as these spaces can just as easily be "second rooms" or "backrooms" as pure chill out rooms

I quite like a bit of both- its good to hear floaty chill out stuff that you can mong out to - but equally as good to hear more upbeat stuff like reggae or funky sounds or a bit of breaks that you can have a groove to (as opposed to 'aving it in the main room/area) - and yes I've danced in many a chill out room/area (often found them playing the best tunes).

I suppose that UK tradition dictates that it all starts quite funky about midnight and ends up very mellow by about 5am....

The beauty of the chillout room (in my view at least) is that those playing the music are much less restricted than in the main room. I play everything from 75 beats a minute to 176 beats a minute in my set So it can be a place to both snooze & move at the same time Although not both at once I guess....

Ok.. I'm bemused as to what bizarre gabba or doomcore chillout is at 176 bpm!!

But happy hardcore chillout aside - I agree with Mike - you can play a wide range of stuff - I've played plenty of funky stuff or afrobeat in chillout/second rooms and its gone down really well

Yeah, I thought a bit of gabba might liven people up a bit John I'm working up to including a very special fusion of death metal & white noise in my next set.

hello guys.....
thanx for getting what I mean! I've only just joined this forum...... I play chill-out and prefer to play slightly more uptempo stuff. I actually really enjoy having a groove in the chill-out room.... (I think I'm getting too old for main rooms!)...... But I do remember a time when chill-outs always seemed to be much more ambient.... nowadays they seem to be getting more groovy and eclectic..... I like the freedom of playing chill out. Viva diversity!!.....

I also think people seem to be more interested in what's going on the chill out than before. More importance is placed on it now ......
as for gabba and death metal..... well, not tried any of that yet..! ;0).....
l8rz..

PS: "Doomcore" ?? Sounds interesting.....?

Anyone interested in Doomcore should check out

www.crossbones.co.uk

but cannot imagine being much more off topic than talking about music for the sort of folk who think gabba is too girly!!

I agree that there seems to be a wider variety of stuff on offer in second rooms - arguably co-inciding with a decrease in variety in the main room/area.

The parties I'm involved with always have funky grooves upstairs - 'cos its nice to have something you can swing your hips to and dance to as a contrast to banging music in the main room. Sadly there's too much noise pollution from downstairs in the venue we use to have a proper chill out.

I think it good to have a variety of dance music on offer - as many folk love parties (atmosphere, people, venue, decor) but may not like trance, or trance all night - or even just like some variety. Hopefully its something that will continue to develop.

I'm with you on the variety thing. I remember going to parties where there'd be trance in one room, d'n'b in another, house in another, live bands, dub/reggae, loungy/jazzy stuff.....
if you're easily bored, diversity is vital! It's a shame when people get fascist and condescending towards different genres/scenes... There's so much out there..

.... just noticed... Mike (Indidginus)... Did you play at Photon Generator.....?
I played upstairs in Interchill room. Great party! Sorry I didn't catch yr set though.....

Hi Natasha

Yep, I played downstairs in the basement (sorry, Liquid Lounge ). How did your set go? Did you hear Matt Ishq's set? He played in the Interchill room too. He's a geezer & his music is very good in my opinion

Viva Las Vegas. Or something.

PS Whereabouts are you based John?

Mike - I'm in Sheffield - the mighty (!) Planet Zogg- think we've emailed before.

Greg Zogg has a copy of your CD and really liked it!

Main problem we have is that our second room is directly above the main room - so anything too chilled has a"thump thump thump" coming through from downstairs!

But havinga second funky room works really well & a lot of the original free party crews in Sheffield were house crews - so everyone (well the older ones and the girls - so basically everyone but young lads!!) likes a good groove!

cheers

Hi John

OK, I see now. Sorry man, I'm a bit slow on the uptake some days (most days). I'm glad Greg liked the CD. I can see that having the chill room above the main room might be a problem. Unless I get my thrash doomcore ecelcto-ambient set sorted out soon that is

Hi Mike....
Really enjoyed playing. (always do!)
I played 4-6 which was after Ishq. We were originally going to play the other way round which I reckon would have been better as his set was much more ambient than mine.... But I wanted to catch Eat Static and he wanted to catch System 7...... Who apparently were really good...... Havn't heard anything from them since about 97....... So good to see they're still doing stuff......

Ishq's set was great. Beautiful and Strange at the same time...... Really sound bloke as well....

How did your set go?? I don't really know your stuff...... ? What's the story?
l8rz...

Good stuff Natacha Yes, Matt is a very sound bloke. My set went fine thanks. The story? Well, uhm.... here goes.... Once upon a time, there was a pair of trousers called "Dave".... No, never mind. Back to reality for a second. If you're interested in finding out a little bit more about my stuff, then my web site's probably as good a place as any to start It's http://www.deviantdidg.com.
