Hey Dennis, RK9, ever heard something of respecting other peoples opinions? I don't think you act fair now. Your reactions make me a bit sad. You left the topic, stopped discussing different opinions and went to personal offences.

I'm not on any ivory tower I just have heard too many DJs destruct beautiful music with terrible FXs just because they are bored or think it would make them cooler or the music better. You don't happen to be those guys? Are you? I certainly didn't think you were.

I'm just an ordinairy musician with ordinairy musical principles that are just pretty uncommon and unknown in the electronic world and the world of DJs. Any musician who writes songs, and considers what he does as art will understand me. You don't because you just don't look at what you or me do the same way as I do. Its totally ok to look at it as you do, but it has nothing to do with ivory tower attitude to look at it as I do. It's just a view that settles more in ordinairy music and ordinairy composition etc. not electronic.

Please understand, I just put ALL my heart and energy in my music, I put MONTHS of work in one song. Every song of mine is like a baby for me and it simply breaks my heart if I hear DJs destroying it with terrible use of FX or if the mix away the emotional summit of my songs, just because they find it too boring not too mix every 7 minutes or whatever unmusical things DJs can do with music. Please respect that and don't "ivory tower" me just because my opinion is so strange to you.

I don't think I got it from the "wrong" perspective, I just think I brought it to another perspective.

I agree with Shiranui and full_on, I think they can be really good for transitions if used wisely. But I think the "use it so that it sounds as if original" applys there as well.

I understand and respect your view in the same way as I understand Mike's view. However, the topic is meant to the DJs out there who are real DJs, in the same sense as you define yourself as a real musician, to help "no so real DJs" as me, to improve their mixes.

Sometimes, in the quest to find "the perfect mix", I spent more than a hour repeating a single transition, trying to make it as smooth and "invisible" as possible. In these occasions, knowing and practicing the use of effects may be of some help, specially when mixing old tracks with newer tracks (I always play a lot of older tracks).

So please lets stop this "misunderstanding" and share some "hidden secrets" with people who can benefit from them, like me.

Well, I don't know if I am a "real musician" but I definitly try to be.

full_on, I really appreciate how thoroughly you pursuit your development as a DJ. From what I read here in the forum I can only say that I'm looking forward to hearing you one day!

I know the problem with the old and new songs, I don't know if there is a beat-on-beat solution. What I did so far to overcome that problem:
1: I approached older music year by year.
2: I let the song play out and let a beatless break happen between the songs.
3: I remastered some old songs (focused on bass) in order to make them fit better... with very little success for everything before 2000.
4: Carefull use of the EQ for bass can help wonders if the mixer is good.

In my case, I rely more on adjusting Eq's than effects for this.

Hey man, I use these effects, especially Wah and Jet, when four beats left to finish the bar.

So.

1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
1 - 2 - 3 - *5 - *6 - *7 - *8

*beats with effects.

I use these effects when I'm entering a new song.
So, while I use the effect during the last four shots, while I close the Low, middle and treble, gradually.
But , don't use always. It is very tiring and boring! It is to be used at times, especially at the time you close the Low of the first song and the opening of Low of the music that is coming. The effect should be applied to music that is playing and not on who is entering.

This is my way. I hope I have contributed.

i dont use too much this effects, i think most of them are useless, sure you can have fun with wah etc, sometimes zip too.

I like to use the loop function. Like let the outgoing track loop for one bar, enter with the incoming track, and let the loop of outgoing track turn into a element of the incoming one. I like that.           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``
