@ocelot. Isn't SF predominantly a dnb town or has that changed...? A lot of people have an automatic repulsion to 4ot4, and I'm sure that's the sentiment I heard.
Yes, everybody in a state of trance together is much more realistic than everybody groovin to a genre called 'trance'.
and yeah, I hold out hope for that for damn sure

I have immersed myself in music my whole life, coming from a musical family. There've only been two musics which I involved myself in more than superficially - punk and psytrance. Now that psytrance is feeling like punk did when it got compromised, with nothing left but niches, enjoyed by the few steadfast holdouts (amongst the masses of whatever style happens to be mainstream), I'm looking for the next thing. The next mysterious new music to be moved, captivated and motivated by. I know it will have elements of all the past music I've loved and more (much like psytrance did), but like psytrance will have to contain a new element which takes me to a new level of experience, even more positive and profound than the last. I want to be open to it, but I know I already have set up criteria and checklists for rejection, based on what has made music fail in the past. Most notably artist ego and the potential for commercial exploitation and the inevitable dilution of essence. (Which comes back again to artist intention).
Or maybe I'm not ready. maybe I'm still recovering from the last love affair I had, with the occasional futile make-up fuck now and then and only in private (parties are for in-bloom lovers and I feel so out of place).
We're all in our different cycles, I suppose, and I need to accept mine as slowing down and coasting in neutral for a while.
At least long enough for something to sprout when I sprout and we do that self discovery thing again.

i think new and better technology,wide databases of diffrent sounds and effects and an intense outlook towards psycedelia is bringing out more varities and experimentations with psytrance...i dont think that dark music has much to do with happy vibes,its more inward looking and looking towards identifying your inner and most deep tribal nature...where you know you cant handle more madness you stop and that becomes what you like,amonst other sub genres.....psy trance 100 years from now will be a lot diffrent depending on evolution of the human mind,technolgy and society.
evolution i think is one of the answers to your question. |

very interesting thoughts and questions posed by ocelot and others.
To me, the division of the dance movement was inevitable for all reasons. (we are all different)
Still, the psychedelic scene had something different!
It wasn't about having fun!
It was about cleansing of the soul!
Trancendence
Change
Cure
It was mystical, magical!
At least thats what it was for me (and i am sure for everyone really)
The problem is that many of us, probably have taken it more seriously (or exactly the opposite) and considered ourselves (more mental and spiritual) to the people who prefered other styles ex. house, progressive or recently electro.(either we know it or not)
One of the people who was (and still is) a big positive influence to me who used to be in the scene since the beginning, left it because he thought that it changed so much that it was another scene. (one he didn't belong to any more) That goes for people, habits , parties, music, etc.
Now I know this reminds us of a topic like: old school goa vs. new psytrance but i don't mean it like this.
All I want to say is that when i first came into experiencing the whole psychedelic thing, in 2000, it was a big change for me (i used to be into metal and goth for all the wrong or right reasons) It was something spiritual! extra dimensional and illuminating!
I am still looking for it even now (mostly find it in the so called dark psy, which is probably the most psychedelic in the true sense of the word than anyhting else after 2000) although it s still in the first steps!
The funny thing is that since my life changed for the better (out of the darkness into the light of psy) the scene satrted taking elements from the scene I had abandoned for my own good.(certain song titles I mean, nothing else)
Now that confused me a little bit!
(but it's all about confusion these days, isn't it?)
BACK TO THE TOPIC
I believe that everyone is experiencing spirit in a different way and it's so true that you can feel magical when dancing and being at a party even if it's electro or psy
Now Dark psy, at a party has given me a very individual thought trip in the past(not good nor bad, rather monotonous but probably because of the sound)
But its so fast changing into a real psychedelic thing again. Two days ago I heard some samples from current releases and i was totally blown away! I feel the whole psy trance thing is being reborn. it will feel as it felt back in the ninetees but it will be so different from it. (think spirally)
I don't know if it's all going to be fused as
one dance music towards 2012. things are changing so rapidly. but at the moment i think it's all about enforcing the spiritual element back into parties,(which still exists)Or actually in our minds!
paintings, incense, colourful clothes, mushrooms, juggling, black lights, ambient room, forest, pschedelic literature and ever changing kaleidoscopic psy trance.
Psychedelic is these things.
Now no matter what, psy trance is moving ahead very fast! it always was!
