Just because you are a dj playing doesnt mean you have to be rude. You can answer in a polite matter, remember PLUR? Or was that the previous generation... Geez.

--------------------------------------------
My answer was:
"Can you please go back to where you came from and never return?"

Uffffffff

------------------------------------------

Isn't that polite enough?
I said "PLEASE"

Lately I had a 3 hour set of almost new tracks and actually 2 guys at different itmes came up to me and asked me:
"Don't you play any Space Cat tunes? You should!
"Fuck man I played Space cat tunes so many times but today NO!If you don't like what I'm playing just go home and turn on space cat on your hifi!

------------------------------------------
Fragletrollet,
As regarding this answer what I can tell you is it wasn't the 1st time that these 2 guys asked me to play something else and after some occasions it starts getting very annoying!
On the other hand,
I agree with you dude,Just beacuse we're djs doesn't mean that we can be rude!
True,
But sometimes it's stronger than us and it's very difficult to be polite after 15 pints of beer

--------------------------------------------
On another occasion I was playing at an outdoor party and when I started my set this guy on ES came up to me and told me "Please play some tracks from Frequency Surfer"
(Apparently it was all he knew cause some other friends of mine had just gave him F.Surfer's cd and got obsessed with it.
Anyway luckilly for him that night I had in mind to play a couple of tunes by F.Surfer at the end of the set and so I told him.

Maaaannnn,
He spent 2&1/2 hours next to the dj stand playing with his jaws without moving and every 10 minutes he was riminding me to play those tunes!!!!!Would you manage to remain calm and be polite?

About the dj issue ... If you know the dj I think it's ok if you ask for a tune, seeing as he/she is a friend of yours and you both probably like alot of the same tunes.

I agree up to a certain extend.

I dont mind someone coming up to me and ask for a specific track. If I like the track and think it could fit the set I say "ok man, I'll maybe play the track, but I am really not promising it at the moment...". I'll keep it in my mind and when I find the right time for the track, I play it. And it is nice to see the person to be happy with the fav tune...

of course I am not up for a conversation definitely, I have other things to do at the stage But to talk to someone for a few seconds is not a problem, if I am not mixing and have 2 tracks playing out at the same time.

and for reason 3] - at a party with a good equipment, the dj can easily turn the sound in dj booth off, so you dont have to scream...

if you like to request a track, just wait until you see the dj is not busy much with mixing etc... but please dont be offended if he doesnt find time to talk to you or play the track you've requested... sometimes you can have luck, sometimes not...           - http://sharpblaze.darknet.cz -

Anyone got any hints for dealing with people who, whilst you're in the middle of doing a live or DJ set, just stand there right in front of you as close as they can get (which is pretty damn close sometimes!), not dancing but just staring? It's a bit distracting, everytime you look up from the laptop or the decks, not to be able to see the crowd but just one person.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

@ ott - there is a shirt i've seen around SF (i think mubali has one?) and it says " fuck off i'm mixing! "
i'm not a dj, but judging from the fact that this shirt was even made, i would say it's probably pretty irritating for the dj to get requests.
I never disturb my friends while they're mixing unless I have a spliff or chillum to share.

Don't you ever, never ask a DJ to play any music.
Respect!           .

@ Neville Bone:

Well, we all will react differently, but I wouldnt like it if the DJ told me to piss off. Its a golden middleway

And, ofcourse, I aggree that some ppl most possibly can be annoying to the DJ.

I can see that

Back on topic..if I'm playing , don't do that to me EVER it's the most annoying thing in the world...especially if you don't have a joint/chillum to share with me.
Gosh you wouldn't believe how much I hate that

I remember this guy who step in to the stage and plugged a microphone and started to Sing...I asked him "what the fuck are you doing mate???"
REPLY:"I'm friend of Ramón , he says it's fine to him"
Me:"Who the hell is Ramón???"
REPLY:"That guy"(any random guy falling asleep)
I stop playing and I went for a walk letting DJ Pavi playing...when I came back the guy was HAVING IT , singing like some sort of Hip-hoper Frank Sinatra.
I looked at Pavi and he said:"he said it was fine with you"
He ended up singing the whole party , and he came to the next one with a bigger microphone and a nordlead or so for the vocal effects...he was quite disaponted when I told him to Fuck Off.

I all depends on the situation. If i am playing for a small group of friends and anything goes I will do it. Whay not? Now, I am fully concentrated in driving a floor and i have in mind what to play, it can be irritating to stop everything you might be doing to get the request. Specially since ppl want to chat about etc... I usually get in a state of mind when i play. I am not rude about it, but my body language screams out loud I have a job to do.

One time during this weekly one DJ we did not book for that event begged me throghout my whole set if he could play. He would just come every minute and talk to my ear. I was very polite @ first, but it came to a point I had to tell him to fuck off. And he continued. After 2 hours of begging, I let him spin for 10 minutes. After two trainwrecks I took over again. And he had a moment of realization and apologized.

I had been requested to play D&B, breaks, madonna, Some rock... Oh well
