Buying Music - Labels or Artists ?

It really depends... Mostly, I go with artists I like, but then again, some labels just have a really extreme quality control - Twisted Records / Backroom Beats are a fine example, very rarely something on that label can be considered plainly mediocre. In IDM for instance, my first discoveries were just checking out stuff on Warp and m3rck recorcds, since 99% of what they release is truely unique and beautiful... It all comes down to how many artists you actually know - if the number is over 200 artists or so well (all genres) you may want to start sticking to them and only once in a while find something new, but until then, a lot of people could use discovering Led Zep, Duke Ellington, Squarepusher, Plump DJs or Plastikman before they just sit and dig down on more of the same. Always new horizons to discover, taste to expand.

And it´s very rewarding anyways.

Why the hell would someone even buy released music? Psytrance isn`t about labels and artists, it`s about having unrlsd stuff asap. You such a noob!           SPQR

Reminds me of a topic i had opened couple of years ago hehe.

Since i first entered this scene i made a list on my computer with the labels and artists i should keep updated,a list that i updated couple of months ago.

What i did was visit saikosounds (mostly) and psyshop labels and artists alphabetical list,i noted down every label and artist that i know and i am interested in and then i visited discogs and first i noted down every release that i dont have and i should get from the labels i like and then i visited the individual artists pages again on discogs and noted down their releases that appear on labels that werent in my list but i should check out anyway.

For example i have Twisted Records in my favorite labels list and i buy almost every release from them while i try to get updated for their future releases,on the same basis i got Prometheus on my favorite artists list and although he releases mainly on Twisted i always stay updated with his releases just in case he releases a track in a label that is not in my update list (although he rarely does).

This is a very good system and allows me to filter the music i want to listen and buy.Once every month or couple of months i check my lists, check what are the new releases and i buy what is of interest to me.

There are so many labels and artists in our days that it is pointless to start searching on the web or even on isratrance promotional section concerning every new release available,i mean with 70-80 releases a month noone can really check even half of them.I choose to stick with my list and before anyone says that by doing this i wont discover new artists and music i got to answer to him that if an artist/label is good then somehow i will come upon them one way or another, maybe not now but for sure in 6 months or even a year from today, good things dont get lost and people learn about them and since i am not a dj or an unreleased freak i dont mind to discover a good release a year after its original date like i did with the Black & White album for example from Hommega that although the label is on my update list the artist wasnt and only some time ago i noticed that their album is very very good and added the artists on my wish list.

So to answer the original question YES i buy music based on labels and artists reputation and good name and ofcourse previous good experience with them rather than experiment with new things all the time or searching the internet for whats new and hot.If i see Twisted or Prometheus on the cd cover i will buy it no matter whats inside since i know (based on experience) that the product will be of high quality.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

i download and am not ashamed, i have no money to buy these cds for that price id rather fill up my car with gas and go for a nice ride somewhere and listen to a cd-r, in return i promote those artists when my friends hear the new tunes , and then they want to come out and party
