hi all

last year wheni was first time in india i noticed this problem
u cant realy find good original psy music in most of india
its either burned, low quality, only full on cd's (anjuna market is full of them)
or a very small colection in some major shop in a big city

thats too bad, i think that the only option left for good dj's is to order online

next time i will be in india i will bring with me some good cd's to sell to local dj's & artists with no profit

till then...

wat i observed is ppl who listen commercial music they dnt know wat is electronic Music .. I said before in sum other thread which has relevance to the same. Commercial Market is Bigger than Psycrowdelicaa & as per the bussiness prospect PSy needs to be Disclosed as sum of the Folks still believe in "KEEP IT UNDERGROUND" ...need to cum out of that to Breath Free ... So that it can be easily available & more Audible ....           UVV Project / Mandala Project / Crystal noize Project / Cosmic Crew

the retail scene is kiking big guns in india .. its just a matter of time till psy hits popular music stores or huge departmental stores that have a music section. labels shouldnt give up on music stores just becuase there is no demand. try it first , if it fails, then there is reason to believe it wont work. it could be very profitable for labels and store owners (if the cd's are being printed locally) because i feel there are still more people visiting physical stores than online stores taking into account that the internet still isnt 100% safe for people using a credit card. the only way the industry can really leverage from here is by strengthning a short effecient supply chain and distribution system to get it across cheaply and effectively to its target audience. people do have access to internet but not many own a credit card which makes them search elsewhere for their music. reducing the price of cd's is the only way and its very possible if label onwers are willing to sacrifice $$ for numbers , the latter im presuming is the need of the hour.           missing plug-in

i have tapes that i pulled of the shelves.

Some Oldskool VAs
Goa Gil - Digiteria, Towards The One, Forest Of The Saints, Karmageddon
Some more VAs like Trance Energy, Cosmic Shiva, Krishna Trance, Empty Hand, some more i can't remember

I have also personally tried to distribute some CDs in local stores like Planet M, Music World etc, tried to collaborate with EMI & Sony for distribution in India but it did not worked out. Big names are not ready to distibute psytrance in retail stores in India.

Maybe it's not the time now, maybe soon but for sure if the labels cannot afford to distribute on their own, there are lesser chances of this to happen via major distributors in this ring.

IMHO

Well... look at a micro step then. the way it's usually done with a genre thats fairly underground is face-to-face promotion. have a few distributors in each city with criterion like...

- must know/be passionate about their music (V.IMP)
- travel the city often
- have access to coffeeshops, local record shops, clothing stores, hangout joints
- be connected to the local electronic music scene

say you have a few people like these in every city. music distro could be an afterhours job. working on a commission basis. labels can send their music in on a 5-10CDs per city basis and work it out monthly.

just an idea... and i know for a fact that there are a lot of young psytrancers looking for ways to get involved. if you love your music this would be the best way to support it... and to start getting your friends to do the same.

downloading is a trend but then again so is buying CDs. Create the hype, show them the package, make it desirable. Can tell you one thing though... the mentality here is that if you buy a CD you're going to keep it to yourself. You wont find many people ripping originals and sharing this side of the world (unless they're getting paid/exchanged for it)

^ good point.

Start in a small way...like smaller music stores which encourage underground music like 'habitat' in bangalore for example. If this works real good then move on to bigger stores n larger distribution network. Advertise it well on the net about the availability in the local stores and u r on.           www.vantaravichitra.com

well, my idea would be to open a music shop, along with a nice coffee shop giving a more lounge vibe with good surround sound systems. The music shop will be the main focus ofc.. it can sell not only psy (since that is not feasible at all) but also other genres like pop, rock (theres a lot of good rock n pop even that people look for at local music stores and never find!) and house/electro (the demand for house and other forms of electronic music is far more than psy imo, and here people will buy that paulvan dyk cd off the store..

someone who can devote some good time needs to read through this thread religiously, do an intensive market research as to what sells, how many copies, and all that and show a profitability of such a venture to a record label or any sponsor and go for it! Bombay, and other places where real estate is way too expensive may not work out, but theres always other places where you can groom a generation of music buyers by good promotion and sales.           Nothing is said that has not been said before.
