Yep would be amazing indeed but will probably never happen.. btw i have seen:

Goa Gil - Karmageddon, Astrix - Eye to Eye & VA - Space board @ Planet M in Bangalore hehe

but in reality the market is far from being big enough for music stores to find selling psytrance an economically feasible option

indeed, but maybe they can be sold a bit more expensive.. maybe Sales would go up through impulse buying, and it will also become easier to introduce people to start buying than downloading.

Should do some promotion at first. Give away free CDs or at half price.
Usually works better while trying to introduce a new 'product' in the market.

Very good topic and this is something tht all labels shld take care of. I even recently saw Goa gils Worldbridger at Planet M Bangalore.
The labels should work more on distributing the cds thru stores like music world, planet M. Will curb the menace of piracy and improve cd sales as well.

Digital Downloads is the way forward!!!!

juno, beatport, djdownloads, breakbeatonline, addictech etc all offer waves and 320kbps mp3's for decent prices....

from a dj view i think this is the future, as i can buy only tracks i want from an album or a compilation ...and not to forget the vinyl and ep only tracks that are so hard to get :-D

but yes the joy of buying a new cd, unwrapping it and gazing through the booklet while the first track kicks in is just so wow

I hope that my friends in the music world don’t take this the wrong way.

This news has understandably caused molto agitato anguish in the music world. Especially since it appears that the growth in downloads won’t come anywhere near compensating for the slump in “old-fashioned” CD sales – not this year, and not any time in the foreseeable future.
Indeed, the rise of the iPod and other digital music players appears to have made prospects for the recording industry worse, not better. First, it means that punters can choose the individual tracks that they fancy from the latest albums, rather than buying the whole caboodle. That’s much cheaper for them, but much less profitable for the musicians and their record companies.
And, secondly, it reinforces the “I know what I like, and I like what I know” tendency that has such a stultifying effect on intellectual curiosity. Once you have stocked your iPod with your 5,000 all-time fave ditties, why do you need anything else to while away your commuting or jogging hours? That, at least, seems to be the mind-set of millions of music lovers.

@psychedelikk

i dont see this as anything bad!!

as a consumer who is paying for his products, I shld be satisfied with what i get ....if i like just 1 track form a va/album i shld have the option to buy only what i like ....

maybe this wud even push labels into releasing only good tracks that really deserve a release rather then amateur labels releasing tracks they have got free from artists or from their friends

i dont agree with the your second statement either ....

ps are these your own words or is it a copy paste??           New mixes on

Anjum bro! Was it a coincidence? Intinct told me that I had seen the exact same words somewhere in the past! Anyways, it was a good read.

Peace and light.

ahh dont go for all that crap ...those surveys apply mostly to the pop music industry and major labels like song, bmg, emi etc.

the electronic scene especially the psy, tech, proggy styles can only benefit from digital downloads!

moreover i don't believe once someone has their top 5000 tracks on an ipod they wont like to purchase the latest album by their favourite artist

all this has kinda been offtopic

trying to steer back... ive seen phonokol, Com.Pact, and a few more label cds at places like rythm house ...but yes u really need to look very very very hard to find them ....

dada is doing a great job ....not for proper psytrance but they just released the new sun control species album besides releases like freq and a couple of chillout releases ....           New mixes on

And i can understand about international label releases being a lil hard to get their stuff in the stores here. But ive also seen it so it is possible. But wat baffles me is that.. there are 10 plus labels in India... and why is it tht none of them are available at stores all over India???? Is distribution just restrcited to Saiko sounds... psyshop etc??? Why not tap the market here and make it easier for the people? Or is it just pure laziness? Cld someone give me a valid reason... coz ive been seeking this for quite sometime now!

Look this is what i think the issue is. I am just taking Planet M in Bangalore as an example to illustrate my point:

1. Stores like Planet M may not be very willing to release something that they are unsure will sell. If you notice you will only find Goa Gil's compilations, Astrix album & Infected Mushroom album.

2. Even the sales of popular releases such as those i mentioned above in a city like Bangalore will be extremely poor, so i don't think Planet M would dare to venture out and release a CD that has artists who are well known to us, but are quite unfamiliar to them.

3. Lack of awareness...Planet M hasn't a clue as to whether Shift is better or Abomination is better. Both sound like Chinese so the "fuck them" attitude comes along, and instead lets stick to Astrix.

4. It probably takes a shit load of paper work to get ones label onto Planet M shelves, and NO label has the time to go through all that trouble because at the end of the day maybe like 5-10 CD's will sell max.

5. Another issue arises with the connection between sales and storage. Planet M would have to buy CD's in batches, since it wouldnt be sensible to get only 5 copies of each different CD because the sales is low.. They would obviously have to order a reasonable number of CD's (lets take 50 as the minimum for example). But with the psytrance industry even 50 CDs is a LOT, and the only thing thats gonna happen is, 2-3 cds will sell and the rest will only occupy space & collect dust.

It just isnt feasible economically. Planet M are in this for the $$$ unlike all the labels in this genre worldwide...yes i am being very sarcastic
