i have heard from a fair few labels that sales are going down and they are finding it hard to keep going cos many people in this scene are cheap skate poncers!(ie want stuff for free)

they love all the hippy shit about unity and coming together and yet shaft the artists and people who try to bring them their vibrational fodder.

for those who are still downloading, as this is going to continue to happen, why not try to give back a little and therefore try something different.
get friends together in little groups and each buy a cd ,lets say 5 people each buying one cd,then share each one.that would mean 5 more brought.lets say 200 groups of friends do this and wow.....lots more sold.

obvioulsy some of you guys are doing this, great stuff, your top.lets pass on this very basic stratergy and see if we can help rekindle this diminishing scene.

wouldnt you all agree.

Why is it that a CD has had the same price since the 90's? Maybe if the people wanting to make money on CD sales could change some of the standard prices ect, the buyers would be easier tempted to purchase the released albums that they like. And there is a lot of people out there, including me that loves original albums. So what about better booklets?
The problem isn't the buyers, it's the market that is the issue here.

And what if people are downloading? It would be a great step back if the "psy-trance/music marked in general" scene would fall down. That would then mean less releases, and better quality of releases over all. Because if there is NO money in releasing a album (not that people in this scene is making money, but...), 80% of the music would poff, disappear. Then only the people with "real" ? interest in the MUSIC it self, would produce mental psychedelic trance for the body and soul.

Let's get back to trading music for free! Pass the word !!

i've got an idea..

why not, not pay any artists, buy CD jewel cases at the local dollar store (the slim one's come in packs of 3 for a dollar), burn the Cd's ourselves with our home PC's, then, wrap them in saranwrap insted of that overpriced plastic wrap, then sell them to stores dirt cheap..

that way we can offer you CD's @ 5$'s each

ohh, not to mention the black and white printer paper used for the booklet...

yeh man!!
come on dude get real.this is a small issue for a scene with little money.
the labels i know are doing it for the love and predominantely know most music is going to DJ's.the artists are getting gigs from their music and earn a little for their keep, but as OOOD has kindly illustrated, the diagrams show that the artists(especially) and labels are pretty much doing it for free..but how about a little back in return?

just buy one cd of each artist you like, you dont have to this at the same time,or form a group as i showed in early message and support the artists/labels you like cos, they'll appreciate it!

give it a go,it might make you feel good!

as far as bigger booklets psytone.what do you want in their, lyrics to the music?

A CDR in a re-used supermarket plastic bag with the name scrawled on it with a Sharpie shouldn't cost more than $3           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Anything but a blank middle page with no imagination. It doesn’t have to be a FAT booklet with pictures, story's of the artists ect. (See PKS’s release Quality Relaxation or the compilation “10 Years of Israeli Trance). But at least a bit of information and/or a nice image. Just something to make the whole "I’m opening up my new CD, let's look at the booklet thingy" experience a little bit more "fun". I guess you own a couple of original CD's your self? Don't you "dislike" booklets that are one square with no info/picture, no nothing? But it is the music that counts, and for me, a small reason to buy originals instead of DL is the feeling that a original CD gives me (ja-ja, i know – ). And when I use my hard earned money on over-priced CD's, I expect a little bit extra from the content around the CD. The case, booklet (if the case allows it to exist). Lyrics? lol, yeah. Ok. umm, Infected Mushroom - CV. That booklet had lyrics from "Other Side" like the track Blink. I'm very happy that they decided to include them. Isn’t it a sad fact when it is the distributors/retailer that are responsible for the high CD prices? Oh, and don’t yell at me mister. I’m doing my part in supporting the “scene” financially. But money isn’t what this scene is about. Making a living out of making psy-trance just tastes wrong. Is this “just” another music industry with money as a goal? People making psychedelic trance music for sure should not count on getting rich. It is the gig’s that gives them money and travel experience. The CD sale .. beh!

I think I speak for a lot of artists in the scene when I say that we don't make our music for money - but if we're going to sell it in any way then by crikey money is a factor.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Newsflash mate. PKS lost tons of money on "Quality Relaxation". What does it prove? That no matter how much you try to make you CD releases interesting with booklet's etc. The overspoiled coca cola drinking kiddos and the hippies who think it's a "take what you can get for free" world do not but the CD's anyway. They leech and leech and seem to be proud of it too!

Personally I am fed up with all the endless "peace and love" excuses. It's clichees and rubbish and fool nobody anymore.

Thank god for Online shops where the artists now get paid as they deserve. BUT mark my words. The majority of buyers are not people from the psytrance scene!

One more comment. All my observations show me that the psy scene is the scene with the most egocentric audience. Drugs nowaday's are a bigger factor than the love for the music and supporting the scene's artists is a town in Russia unless it's a MEGA raver Star that have a "cool" KIK and bass and play 150+ bpm so all the druggies can get the powder floating a little faster with their upbeat pulses.

Don't try to kid anyone. The psytrance scene is down the drain and most of those who walk in the scene today are more concerned about their own drug consumption and MEGA rave star worshipping (without wanting to buy the music) than to support the scene so it can grow stronger.

There's no point in debating anything anymore. The greedy egotrippers have spoken in the psytrance scene and nothing we write here will change a thing. The best reaction is a finger or a laugh from the masses out there.           http://www.peopleagainstpeace.net/

Stop whining, open a shop with reasonably priced wav (or losless) downloads. Reasonable being 1$ a tune.
Yes, that's 10$ an album. The price that an online album should cost. Don't let assholes like Beatport rip you again like in the ol' school distro model.
And once again, stop whining and stop blaming everybody else. Spitting on clients is never a good idea. Client is always right.
And please, put good music in this store and not some half baked dark fruity loops psy creations. Top labels and top music that was supposed to go on plastic.
Iboga, Digital Structures, Twisted and Hommega.

come pavel, you can be a bit more daring than that..talk about pulling out the biggest names making user friendly pop trance.come on!your missing the point!
i agree with trippy jonny on a fair few things there.and i think the israelies (the majority)are providing us with music thats soiled the scene with copycat "wahay" nonsense with shades and jelled hair..and i still think if we buy some blank cd's and just write on it with a semi-permanant marker pen with the artists name on it and have a car boot sale,we can sell them for 2$.

now thats a bargin

All i want is to see my favorite labels sell music with fair prices. When i see labels like Trishula putting an online shop with very fair prices they deserve full respect but unfortunatelly i have nothing interesting to buy there. Labels that i mentioned have tracks for sale either on their sites or through sites like Beatport with outrageous price tag. I'd like to see it change. I'd like them atleast to try before they blame us, the clients of their troubles. And because CD is a dead format and the sooner they realise it and the faster they'll convince us, the clients of the benefits of direct label to client model the sooner they will start to earn more.
