There's been a lot of talk in this thread about burners and why they aren't into psy. What about trancers? Why aren't more of them into burning man? (or are they, is it just me?) What can happen within burner culture to make it more appealing to trancers?

A lot of psyfreaks that I've met are kinda (no offense anyone hehe) close-minded and psytrance-only orientated people.

When they ask me about BM in context of psy being played there I always explain that they MIGHT be very dissapointed if they go there only/mainly for the music.

Other thing is BM itself is too expensive for a lot of them and they'd rather spent that money on psytrance gatherings rather than experiencing something new (again, psytrance-only orientated people).

Some people complained about harsh conditions as well ...

Some trancers just don't like burners' attitude hehehhe.

Hmm, I actually don't consider myself closed minded or psy only oriented. That's kind of my point. There's so much more (non psy) out there that I can devote time, money, and energy to that something like burning man would completely monopolize.

**EDIT:
I'll try to elaborate... By that I mean, it seems to me that many burners are singularly focused on burning man. I'm wondering if the trance community is similarly focused solely on trance or if more people of the 'psy' persuasion take a more holistic view of the potential of experiences out there?

I don't think that came out any better. I don't think I'm going to post in this thread anymore. No matter what I write, I read it afterwards and it seems negative towards someone or another unintentionally.

All I was trying to get at is that as a discussion on how to merge these communities it seemed that we were concentrating only on 'why don't burners get into trance' vs. the other side of the equation which I think should be considered equally.

seriously, though, have you ever noticed how "burners" always seem to be in character, pretending to be some archetype/role? I can understand why they do it (sorta); playing pretend can be very fun, but i find this mentality leads to a serious lack of genuine people in their scene. i just want to grab & shake some of them by the shoulders while screaming "BE YOURSELF!" You don't have to make shitty pseudo-art and pretend to be some character just to be cool.

which leads me to another point, which is that b-man is all about SELF expression *points two thumbs to chest*: "look at MY art, listen to MY music, come experience MY nonsensical deco-installation, isn't it grand?" I find there is little-to-no focus on the group consciousness because everyone's so wrapped up in how awesome their shitty art is or how clever and original the character they're playing is.

Also, people get arrested at burning man. wtf?

actually most people i've met at burning man, having attended the event many times, are very much real, productive, and creative folks.

then again i haven't gone there since 2005 because the commercialization of the event really turned me off. maybe it's rubbing off on the attendees now, too?

i guess maybe i am lucky since I caught burning man when it was still relatively cheap ($70 for a ticket, imagine that), real, and full of psytrance. back when being a 'burner' wasn't a full-time job, but you would just bond naturally with other burners because you actually had this different understanding of the world and a will to do things other people didn't, in real life, not just at burning man.

psytrance was the perfect soundtrack for it back then. of course psytrance was excellent then, too.

Another chime in from SoCal.

The burner and trancer are one in the same out here. (yes, blatant global stereotype statement).

There is just as much group precipitation at a Psytribe, Greensector event as Decom's.

This argument is akin to Classic Rock Lovers who hate the Greatful Dead. ( & vice versa)

The SoCal scene is just protective of itself so we can continue to be creative, explore our minds and share friendships.

Only in SoCal can you have the Dr. Leary, Organic, tribal, psybeats with the sun rising over the desert floor and EVERYONE there is smiling. Burner, Trancer or someone who just showed up.

Even at Kandy Kid raves in Socal, the original "Come As you Are" philosophy lives strong here.

That's what it's all about.

c ya on the dance floor (woot woot)

Why even try to bring the 2 closer?
People tried to bring the rainbow and the rave together that ended in some guy pouring gas on himself and threat'n to set himself on fire if they didn't stop.

They are 2 different scenes leave it at that.
