For some live acts, they require a lot of gear that they cannot or will not bring with them on a plane all over the place. This raises the price of the act significantly. There are also acts that are more than one person, and some people cannot afford to fly out more than one person. True there are many artists that aren't the most technically sound as a dj, but I've seen djs that are the same way. We also have to remember that many artists charge an arm and a leg for a live performance, that coupled with an expensive plane ticket and accomodation makes it very difficult to have many artists out.

Personally, I try my hardest to have my live sets and dj sets be just as good as each other. I was a dj before I started producing, and sometimes I really miss mixing more than doing a live set. When I do a dj set, I tend to play most of my own stuff, especially if I am not doing a live set at all that night... If I am doing a live and dj set, then I will play a lot of my friend's stuff during a dj set... And as long as I'm not incredibly trashed, I won't sound like 2 sneakers in the dryer.

Maybe you're right with the more than one artist to bring...but let's talk about a one artist and not a band, or a band thats coming just for a dj set. All i'm saying is that if organizers investing so much money and forces of bringing an artist from out state, they can afford a bit more to pay for an act (and they publish the party in a way they could bring as many ppl as they can so they'll still have profits). and no body demend the artist to bring his whole studio, but an instrument or two is well expected aspecially when its a band and no one artist.
and you're right there are also lots of dj's that can't mix but atleast they cost a bit compare to an artist which you need to pay him also tickets and place to stay and stuff.
As was said here many artists are just making music and don't know mixing so why would you bring them for a Dj set? if the mixing is bad what was worth to bring the artist? so ppl can say "wow i saw this and that artist yesterday"? when an artist is coming i expect for a well set, aspecially from an artist that is well known and takes a lot of money, the result needs to be well done. i mean it was really sucks to listen to tracks i like while the man that made them couldn't mix even one of them properly, and i won't say the name but it was a high level artist and well known one, it really ruin most of the set, atleast for ppl like me that can notice a bad mix. i would even like to ask why an artist which know he can't mix even agree to perform a dj set?           "My single one to cross the ways that have heart, any way that has heart. its all about the money..
if the organizers invites some well known artist from abroad its most of the time to get more crowd which means more money & reputation..
when the party is first of all for the ppl joy i promise that the organizers wont even think about inviting an artist from other country to give a DJset.......

well, an old story now..
once upon a time there was this super rockstar playing in sweden.. he was booked to do a live so he started up his laptop. forgot to connect the midiclav and then he hit the spacebar.. he got payed a fortune for not doing anything live.. if the organizers payed him less he would atleast be doin a dj set live instead of just standing there looking good..

sometimes you pay more but you get less...
