Did anyone listened do MUKUNBA UMBURA's live act?! I`m wondering how our only live representant went!!!

Nice to see it was a great festival.

And always, there will be people who liked it, and ppl who disliked it. It works this way in brasil, it works this way in portugal, it works this way in the entire world.

For me was a good festival but nothing extraordinary.

The Sound System was crap, really bad speccially in the first day where in the center of the mainfloor you could hear always 2 kicks, was impossible to dance and to hear music. The amunition collumns of the Dj was throwing the sound first then the outside ones so what a confusion always seeming that you were listening 2 different musics in the center of the mainfloor. In the second day they hv solved the prob of the amunition but the outside ones where not very well displayed, they hv calculated badly. Its possible to do much better than that.

Shane Gobi and James Monro the best sets for me.Lélf made a good set but hv had unlucky he played in the first day where the sound was a completely misery.
Lives lol dont comment

In the Overall nice organization, nice deco and very very good ppl. The Chill out was very good and much better music we hv listened there then in the mainfloor.

Beside the part of the sound i hv considered a good festival but not for 100 euros at the front gate.

ABOUT THE SOUND

The sound systems on both the main dancefloor and the chillout were by Nexo. I was told by an English promoter friend of mine who is a Nexo fan that the system on the main dome was originally designed for discreet voice amplification in churches and conference halls, and although it looked fantastic - like something out of a sci-fi movie - even if you stood up against the bass bins the bass was muddy and without punch. It must also be said though that although the system was crystal clear in the mids and highs, I had a good walk around and a large part of the dancefloor was effectively undanceable because of the inevitable delays caused by the inward-facing speaker stacks; stand facing the diagonally opposite speaker and you got the same kick twice with about a second between them. Moving as little as one foot in any direction changed the sound dramatically; even turning my head slightly made the clashing beats from the opposite speakers louder or quieter. And no, I didn't do any psychedelics! Shane Gobi, Regan and Jens from Star Sound Orchestra all told me that even at the DJ position the sound was terrible and made mixing or performing very difficult. I was very disappointed that the organisers got this most vital element of the festival so drastically wrong and seemed to place the emphasis on appearance rather than quality. However like with most people there, it didn't stop me from dancing my nuts off for hours on end once I'd found a spot with sound that didn't make me wince too much, but the music didn't carry me... I had to do that for myself.

It is perfectly possible to provide good sound for 20000 people on a circular dancefloor without resorting to inward-facing stacks (which will ALWAYS sound rubbish no matter who makes them). It's not as if there was any problems with the neighbours; 4 stacks at the centre of the dancefloor facing outward would have done the job I reckon - and would have let the DJs have more control over their monitoring too.

I can't fault the rest of the festival (except maybe the concept of Boom money... GRRR... a friend of mine was told by one of the stall owners that Boom was taking 25% commission on food and drinks, which might explain why things were so expensive). There were adequate toilets that were cleaned regularly, lots of drinking water points (even if you could have made tea with the water from some of them! ) and plenty to see and do apart from the music. The chillout was amazing, one of the very best I've ever seen, and had some of the more innovative music there too, my highlights being Bluetech and the guy with the MIDI exoskeleton.

Although pricey there was a great selection of food on offer, including an amazing organic stall which sold hemp milk and live, sprouting salads behind the cinema tent looking over the lake... to get there you had to walk through the art gallery, which took me over an hour as I just had to examine each picture in detail - truly amazing artwork, and you could just tell the artists had never done any psychedelic drugs at all!

Musically on the main dancefloor I most enjoyed Shift, Hydrophonic, Dmitri (PROPER psytrance!) and Atmos who helped make sunset on Monday (I think, although by that time I had long ago lost track of days) into an extended period of pure sublimity - for me the perfect way to end the festival and although the music carried on, getting steadily harder, I left the dancefloor after his set.

But the best thing about the whole festival for me was the lake. Abso-fcking-lutely essential, that piece of water.

All in all, an unforgettable, amazing, incredibly enjoyable experience. But the system was cack.          Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I never considered going to the festival simply because I've heard nightmare stories about the sound from dj's who've "tried" to play there in the past. If an organizer doesn't understand sound, he doesn't understand dance music, and he doesn't understand dance music, I have no interest in his party. I wrote in the now closed (why?) sound thread:

"sound is simply not so fucking complicated. you just make two big stacks of high-end speakers like turbosound or funktion-one or EV and make sure they are not too far apart. forget about delay stacks or even worse, surround sound. surround sound for dance music is an absolute disaster, because the music is based around the kick, percusssion and the bass. you'll end up with delayed kicks all over the show and bass frequencies clashing with each other."

You've GOT to learn from your mistakes. The very first party I organized had 4 speaker stacks (not surround), and even that was total crap, because the timing was slightly off. Never made that mistake again. BOOM has been making this mistake for how many years now? To put speakers facing inwards is total lunacy.

Would love to go to Boom one year for the people and the chill, but not until they realize speakers are not deco, and that sound is the organizer's NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. The people can make the rest of the party. The one thing they can't change is the sound.

Hallo to all, It was surely a good one!, thanks for the Boom people for organising an event like this!

sound was not good in the first night but was good for the next days, dont you guys forget there were 8000 peple on the dance flore , it is not easy to get blast sound all over, some places were beter then others

music was good in general, something for all.

best sets: ZIRKIN vs TROY (REV) they were really started the party, JAHBO was good and super psychedelic!

from a direct sorce: there were about 17000 people in the boom , 10000 presale, so forget all the rumours.

One thing, there was not even on morning with full power music.. it's a pity.

Hi All!

first a big thanks to the Goodmoods for having the vision and realizing such a beautiful event. I had the most fun outside the dancefloor just enjoying all numerous things that make up the festival and that is surely what make the festival so nice ...

but for the next I do hope that they have a look on this thread and understand the importance of a proper sound ... quite simply 2 stacks and no more experimenting with the circular inward sound which will never sound as good. Those who went to Samothraki last year know what good sound is and that one would easily have catered for 10 000 people or more.

collin ... a circular outward sound will decrease stereo and eliminate any chances of sweet spots so I wouldn't vote for that either ...

thanks all who were there and made it a great time and experience!

You might very well be right; I'm no particular expert on sound systems! I just thought that arrangement would eliminate delayed sound clashes and sill allow a circular dancefloor. I have to say that the best system I have ever played on (and, I think, the best I've heard in a looooong time) was the 25K Opus rig at Omni, which was arranged in a standard stereo configuration with added sub-bass under the stage. I'm not exaggerating when I say that you could have a (loud!) conversation right up against the stacks, yet 150m away the sound was still huge and you could still feel each bass note kick you in the chest. Amazingly there was NO EQ on the system at all; just crossovers and amplifiers, and it could easily have catered for 10 times the amount of people who attended.

Boom organisers would do well to note this.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

boom 2004 was a mindblowing event. best trance festival so far even if the sound wasn´t strong enough to kick asses. I go with Peter Digital. I come back but next time I wanna dance on the floor and not talking or listining to the peoples (15 000) around me.

thanks goodmood, thanks portugal ...

cheers

After this success (in money and attendance terms) it would be stupid from the Boom Organisers to end the Boom Festival concept.

first i ll say thanks to all involved with putting it on.,.its no small task to have so many people gathered with only minor dramas..so ya thanks good mood! now the review:

so boom had the vibes and the people..no way you couldnt have a good time..for me tho the music sounded all the same...it seems last boom had more flow...jahbo saved us and rocked our psychedelic universe...to me this was the only deep intense psychedelic music i heard...azax syndrome was next for his fun and dancefloor madness set....paolo (cant remeber the last name) also played good music...crazy lions cult were the entertainers for sure,,,serving up some silliness....i had fun for sure could have used a more flowing lineup...once daytime came it all sounded like one track and some days even before daytime...i understand its a big festival so it cant cater to us fringe trance freaks but a little more than just one dark act would have been nice...dark nebula it seems has changed styles and is no longer dark...seems trance music is going the way of commericality,.,,not sure what can be done about this but i have musch respect for jahbo fo rnot being afraid to play the music he makes....~

so it wasnt about the music but hanging out with good people and having some laughs,,,

big peace!

Congratulations GOOD MOOD!!! Was really better organise than 2002, specially in the space management and with the Deco. It´s was possible to see that working mounths early, it reflects after, in the final result. Nice work of the entire crew.. well done boys you made an excellent work (we felt that)!!. But you kept the same problem that was in 2002, the surround Sound System; it doesn´t work and you had the proove this year. Surround works very well with cinema and instalations but i have my doubts if it works in Festivals. Well but was not so so so bad after, cause thanks to the great sound line up we could forgot that anomalie and travel through the wonderfull musical sets. The visuals were great ,intelligent eye projecting the images along the main sphere... Incredible!!! look like holograms, light portals ... ffff
The music was very good performed, not only the psy story but also with accent of progressive. If i had doubts , i dont have anymore, congratulations PENA you are one of the best Djs i´ve ever heard. Really nice acid sounds, fantastic progressive journey , absolutely incredible, living psychedelic inside the progressive arena. It was like one music , a simple a beautifull journey that we will never forget. TANX -- D-Tector was a nice surprise, no doubt, a very nice live, jingle an jingle and i said to my self what music is this, whaaaaaaaatt...Gsus a new wave has comme, new sounds new VOYAGEeee. Wonderfull. Well my friends talking about magicians of sound, The last and the best live experience of BOOM FEstival, ATMOS ---»» thank U my friend , u showed me what Trance really is, and there is no doubts that U are in a higher level, U drawed the way to the infinit gate. I cannot express what i felt during the live but i really dont want to explain, i felt and that´s it.------OUTSTANDING____there was a reason to cry_
