This is not true man. I play there and know many friends that play too, and never I hear something like that.

Given that many artists find that Brazil is one of the more lucrative places to play, do your friends see any benefit from agreeing not to play anywhere else while they're in the country? I mean, do they get paid a full fee and all transport expenses? My impression of the organisers is that they would not abuse their position as one of the best psy festivals in the world or the willingness of foreign artists to play there, by offering a one-sided deal, but I would like to hear more details about the real-life agreements that have been signed about this.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

This is standard in the music business. I work as a musician in a band in the states and every single show we play has a radius clause in the contract. Portugal and Hungary are pretty far away from each other so im sure the radius clause doesnt effect Ozora. Also there are alot of artists playing both, look at the lineups. It's funny how some people bring about the peace love and psytrance argument in the same context as profits. People need to make a living, some need to keep up a lifestyle, some are just greedy. You can't help laughing at it all.           the sky was pink

As an artist, if the festival were paying for my travel expenses, booking fee, etc. and asked this of me, I'd understand and probably agree if it were a reasonable request. In general, booking an artist from another continent can cost up to thousands of $ for just that one artist - an investment most people would take seriously.

If I were paying for myself at all, then I probably would not agree to that.

Many festivals capitalize on larger festivals like Boom flying in artists from other continents in order to get popular acts at a fraction of the cost they normally would. Also, if enough artists playing at the festival which is paying for everything get booked at another event right next door and just before or after the festival making the investment, it could end up hurting their ticket sales i.e. the festival loses money i.e. hurts their ability to do another festival next year etc.

Most people don't understand what it takes to throw a huge festival like Boom which is very popular and everybody goes to. It's a huge amount of work and energy. Until those people do understand, they probably should reserve their opinions about the issue until they have a better understanding of things.

Life isn't free, if you don't like the commercial part of the psytrance scene just dont go to festivals and make your own gatherings.

Whats so new about that? Standard procedure for a festival, if they fly a artist from the other side of the planet to play they dont want that artist play at a event close by around the same time.

I dont understand your rant.
