i dont really want to say much but i do agree with most of what you said dave. I just have to make one quick comment. The only reason some of the artists were playing such heavy music in the daytime was because they came totally prepared to play at a different time, but the timeslots kept getting pushed and pushed further down and i feel many didnt have enough cds or music with them to adjust for the change in their timeslot.

My god, Dave, I am so sorry to read that awful story. I don't blame you at all for being irate. While I normally would not condone pointing the finger at specific people on a forum like this, it most certainly seems to be justified in this case.

Dave did call me, by the way, to mention that the party had been reduced to $40 and to invite me. I said, "REDUCED to $40?! How much were they originally asking?" When he told me, I just laughed. This isn't a multi-day party on the beach of Portugal, people. This is California, and we are a small, loving, family community. And yes, many of us simply cannot afford that.

I would also like to say a couple things about Dave. Yes, his music has freaked people out on the dancefloor in the past, and yes, he is very aware of this fact and has made a genuine effort to structure his sets for the people at the party, not just for himself. He is a brilliant artist; whether or not you actually like his music, at least you can respect the fact that he is MAKING music and not just playing tracks.

And as a final note about my crazy friend Dave - he is the master of creating and promoting AWESOME and CHEAP parties! I'm thinking specifically of the now legendary Black Noon party a couple years back that cost $10 and included party favors for that price! And the Yosemite party in July at that stunning location... WOW. Thank you, Dave. I am ever, always proud to lay claim to having introduced you to the SoCal psytrance scene!!!

PEACE

After reading DOT's post I'm curious about one thing ... if Jelly thinks dj's are shit then who does he think would buy his music if dj's stopped existing? to me the relationship between producer and dj goes hand in hand much like the relationship between dj/artist and and dancer.

It's never a good idea to insult more than half of the people that purchase your tracks. I'm willing to bet that it's more like 90% dj's that support the artist. These days your common consumer doesn't give two shits about buying music they'd much rather grab it off soulseek for free...it's the dj that supports!

i do not want to reveal too much, but we brought the funktion-one sound to this party, one of the only saving graces in my opinion and were promised a certain fee and costs covered none of which have been yet. kseniya may be a cute and energetic character but had no idea what she was doing organizing this party. kinda a shame, i love the mojave. Were sorry that the generator we rented was faulty, we tested it at the rental shop beforehand. she asked us to do it which we agreed, but in retrospect we didnt even get reinbursed for the generator fee yet....

the whole point of a goa-style trance dance gathering is to kill the ego on the dance floor. Organizers who are trying to grub money and a known artist talking down dj's, or anybody for that matter, have obviously not been on "that" dance floor yet and its a shame such a people can get on a significant enough level to negatively affect others in the scene.
Also, it is pretty surprising the organizers have not yet spoken about it on this forum.           peace to you and peace to me.

Im sorry to hear about youre experience DOT..

Another promoter bites the dust..

She must have learned her promoting skills from Dementia..yep

Beito ( dementia ) had me down in Monterrey Mexico to play 4 years ago with Highko, Cosmo, and Exaile.. I arrived in town early and offered to help with logistics, setting up, or anything else that needed to be done before an event w 3 headliners from Europe. HE was very cocky and said he can do it alone, ok dude. btw i saw a few flyers, which to my suprise had a picture of Beito on it with some raver outfit on..weird.

I arrived, after they moved the party from a great venue to a mud pit ( yes it was raining). HE didnt have anyone guarding the gate or charging..

They had this huge stage built, no light except for one utility lamp under the dj table, shining in my eyes and which kept attracting bugs ... All i smelled was burning bugs. Not to mention they had a american dj cd player and a 32 channel live music mixer with a channel strip about 3 feet long? WTF? I had my pioneers and djm 600 sitting at my hotel..I had offered to bring it but he said he had it under control. Then it started raining again, and ofcourse there was no shelter for the artists or dj. So there I stood, on this big dark stage, the smell of burning bugs, in the rain..slapping my wet cd's into ths malfunctioning wet cdj..fun!

The party sucked!

Highko , Cosmo, and Exaile all stayed with a good friend of mine in Monterrey. Beito hadnt thought about putting these guys up until the last moment, so I made some phone calls and arranged a place for them. Bieto promised to pay him for the rental of a really nice place near the mouth of La Huasteca canyon, but he never did. I apologized to my bud for connecting him with Beito..my bad.

Another crappy psytrance party by people with ill intentions..ego or $$
