Hey guys.
I owned alot of Viruses (A, KC, TI, B) and gotta say the KC and the TI were really nice synths, but on the other hand soft synths can do just as well as the viruses.

I also had a Midibox SID MB-6582 (8x C64 SID) which i miss very much, but i had to sell it because of money problems.

I also enjoy the x0xb0x, and i am currently saving on my first moog synth. I guess i never heard something better (bass wise) than a moog, the filter is amazing, and the sound lives! Bob Moog did a great job.

I also have to agree with the post (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)

The best synth is always the one you are saving for and not currently having at your home studio.
I remember running around like a little child when my Access Virus TI Keyboard came.

With us gear slutz it will always be the same, we just cant stop, can we ?

I also sold my nord rack 2X

I found the sound possibilities and the interface quite limited.
I found it a bit weak in basses.
I like to hear my effects immediately and i realized i dont like the "record audio" workflow with a hardware synth. I prefer VST for this.
I originally bought it for the harsh FM sound but i realized i could get the same if not better with synth1 !

It has some outstanding sounds though. Here is a nord2x test track i made with only the nord used, except for kick and hats.

But those sounds doesn't really match my musical style.

I'm planning to buy a virus TI because it seems awesome. If i realize i can do the same with vst i think i'll sell it and stick definitely with VST's.

A vst with witch i'm very satisfied is synapse audio DUNE. It's very versatile and can do almost everything.
It's valuable because not much synths are versatile like that. For example no u-he stuff have FM. Sylenth has a very good audio engine but lacks FM too. Also it's true that the immense majority of vst have a less good sound than hardware like the nord. But some vst are as good ( especially with good effects plugins) like :

DUNE,
Synth1,
Sylenth

I don't call that FM. Or it's the worst FM i ever heard.

This is FM (a comparison i made between nord lead 2X, synth1 and DUNE):

nord lead 2X, synth1 then DUNE about one minute each

yeah the fm in zebra is a bit strange but it can lead to some good sound too.

with diva you can make some impressing ones.

reaktor can be close to the nord ,a bit phatter , it s like it s between the nord and the virus for these leads

fm8 could be one of the best out of the digital synth i used imo as it s way more flexible and can lead you to amazing gritty leads.. but the favorites i heard come out of analog synths wihtout doubt

Be sure to select Wavetables for on of the oscillators for FM. Logic's SE2 can churn out some teethgrinding ripping high pass filter FM leads. Compliments my Nord Lead 1 (which is the king of FM leads imo) very well.

The Virus TI is also good for FM sounds.

Peace out.

the Xs let you ring modulate 2 vco and use that signal to modulate the frequency of a vco...sick sick fm ! never though about doing this but i m sure some plugs have that routing possiblity.

this synth is a real good btw.. it suit techno and psytrance like a glove
