ok so.. I was planning on becoming a chill dj (and who knows, maybe even produce someday)..

first of all.. I dont have a cdj and mixer myself.. a friend does, though.. I can go there and practice my skills.. you think thats not enough, and that I can only be a dj if I have the equipment myself?

also, how should I start?? I mean, once I know that I can make play a set in a party no prob..
because, local small parties never have chill area, so I guess I would have to convince a big party producer that I should play, even if its my first time... right?

do you guys have any tips or something else you want to say that I should know?

thanks

Well I'm starting to play chill and there's also one thing I have in mind.

I played on a big party's chill last year and noticed something, you can't just play what you pretended to play, you must feel the lounge energy and play what they want, if it's slow or fast music. I mean, sometimes u can be playing slow musics for passed out ppl until you realize that lots of people are coming from all corners to the chill, and they are all energized, still feeling the dance floor beats, and from that moment you must turn the table and start to play more pumping musics for them.

At least on that party I couldn't play the set list I intended to, and got kinda lost sometimes with my musics... at least that was one thing I really learned with that party. Dunno if everybody agrees with it, specially ppl from here that have more experience than I do could give us rookies some tips...

Happy new year u all

These thing of losing myself on the tracks sequency happened to me too. The solution is what you said there. You must know the songs you got on your case to know what you will play and what you wont play at that time. Programing your set at home is not the correct stuff to do (imho).
Tha equipament is something i think you should have for practicing, but i don't think is something you MUST BUY IT NOW otherwise you wont be a good dj, that's not true. So chill out
A place you could play as a start in São Paulo is *Alki*. Soneca is the one responsible for the chill line up, and i've played there once. It's a start. Good luck on your chill journey...

I agree but there are anyways ehm... periods where you can guess what the people want, in order to set up your list.. Warm-Ups, Night Time schedule, Day Time, Chilled set on the main floor at the then of a party.. With these 4 at least, U probably won't play the exact same list !

"You must know the songs you got on your case to know what you will play and what you wont play at that time."

My case is not very big yet, but I do know the cds I own pretty well, so thats a good thing... and yeah, for sure I wouldnt just play whatever I like, I would try to see the people´s mood.. but I guess thats also something you learn with time.. I just hope I can get some gig to play and start =)

btw, thanks a lot guys, for the supports and tips !!

(and also for the links, kakoo... btw, I met you once in Transit festival, I think.. just before the party started, you me and vincent/tetraktys had just talked to some israelis, and were going back to our tents, and I asked vincent what kind of music he would play... he said prog and tech house, and he said: "But hey, if you get tired of my set, my friend here will be playing in the chill out"..... I dont know if you remember that.. )

To be a chill out dj you have to 100 per cent belive in the power of chill. you have to love the music you play and let it show.

To be a chill-out DJ you´re gonna need a lot of patience and determination.
