Just a quick plea to psytrance labels...
please please add releases to Beatport...i don't buy much music anymore because i'm fed up of buying a release for 3-at-best tracks i want...
but beatport offers downloads in .wav format so no loss of quality. Iboga an Tribal Vision records are certainly on there as well as a lot of prog house and the credit card doesnt remain in my wallet for long
i don't know the pros and cons from a label point of view but personally i find it a very good resource |

I completely disagree. Beatport is built to serve the electronic music community at large - and psytrance is the black sheep. For people who have been, up until now, buying vinyl at $10 - $15 a pop, their prices are a step down. For all of us CD buyers this does not hold true. Far from bringing their prices down, Beatport, enjoying their success, will be steadily raising them, as they have just done with their 3.0 release. Need I even mention the regional pricing debacle? As an exercise, calculate how much a U.K. buyer will be paying for Shpongle's latest in wave format. My point is that Beatport is a great resource for progressive/house/techno and other forms of electronic music, but the price model is not suitable for full CD releases. When a virtual CD costs twice what it does in a store, you know there's something fundamentally flawed with how the music is being priced.
What the psytrance community needs is a site as good as Beatport with an economic model that suits the way our music is purchased and consumed (i.e. by the CD, not the 12" single). Are digital music downloads the future? I would say there is great potential there. Piggybacking our specific breed of dance music culture off a site designed for other styles of EDM does not make sense. I would rather encourage the development of a psychedelic version of Beatport than drive our labels towards a service crafted for other music styles with a pricing model that isn't reasonable.

well actually basilisk you're missing my point...Beatport is a great resource if you aren't buying full cd's...individual tracks from half baked compilations aren't worth the price of a full cd...
but a purchase off beatport? great

heh... but for that price, you might as well just get the whole compilation. Paying £3 for a wav track even in the UK seems a bit on the expensive side. But hey, at least you are paying for your music

wtf !! Drats post was totally valid. ???
Perhaps if you did your homework before posting your spelling wouldn't be so bad, eh.
Totally agree with what Basilisk is saying, Beatports model does not provide value for money within the psy scene. I am waiting eagerly for another site to claim this slice of their market.
£3 for a wav. No thanks. As has been said before its a good idea for those "vinyl" only releases but is not cost effective for psy stuff released on cd.

Agreed but since there's no alternative it's all you got except if you decide to buy CD's online.
Anyway Beatport, Juno, djdownload etc. rock and is the way to sell music if you are a label or artist in the prog house /electro scene.
And £ 3 for a wav is a quite fair price

Yeah - download sites are the future. That said, Beatport et al are NOT the future for psy releases, not until a few things change.
Why download a psy album when you can own the cd for cheaper?? Nearly twice as expensive in some cases. Add that to the fact that there aren't many download only psy labels either (well, none worth the bother).
It doesn't make sense.
These days if I find a psy album with one or two good tracks I dont bother buying the cd or downloading the good tunes. I can live without being exploited in this way. And guess what? Life goes on. I don't care if I don't have the latest killargghh tune.
oh and btw. Check audiojelly / juno.co.uk / trackitdown.net etc .... the list of download sites cheaper than Beatport just keeps on growing.

My point was that Beatport is not aimed at the psytrance scene and probably never will be.
It's aimed at the House/electro scene and as I wrote £ 3 for a wav track is very fair - compared to the price of a "12.inch in a physical shop. Not to forget it's now possible to get those "12.inch tracks digital.
So there's not really a point in debating why beatport is too expensive when it come to psytrance CD's. Yes you can buy some psytrance/chillout CD's there but it will never be a big downloaded musicstyle on Beatport. That's why it would be much more smart if shops like psyshop/saikosounds would open up digital shops. The got the costumers already. The people behind Beatport never intended a psytrance invasion on beatport

Why do we have to argue about absoluteness of buying only from beatport or buying from other site?
I say, if buying CD#1 is cheaper on beatport, go to beatport. If CD#2 is available for cheaper on saikosounds or some other website, compared to beatport, go buy from there.
You have the option. Exercise it. Buy music from where you find it cheaper and affordable to you. But, the point is, buy music. Support the artists.
