a question that is troubling me greatly since lets say 2-3 years.. what is enlightenment?

how do you know when you are enlightened? are you supposed to do things differently when you are enlightened? is that some kind of light that you seek inside when you meditate and when you find it you say you are enlghtened? why would one want to be enlightened? is that god's will that you be enlightened? who is god? who am i?

day in day out i seek an answer for these questions but can't get them!!!!!!!!
it makes me crazy sometimes and it makes me leave this body and wonder aroound just to know what and why and who did all these things.

Lord Krishna in ShriMadBhagwat Geeta says its a cycle that completes every 5000 years...
so for 5000 years you wonder around not knowing what your supposed to do, taking different bodies and when your enlightened you go back to him, is that once and for all or his maya makes you forget everything again and again making you seek the answers again and again!!!

i don't know if it makes sense to you but it makes perfect sense to me.

I found this on a website and it was a nice read. Wanted to share it with all of you. Here goes...

"A young American named Simon Moon, studying Zen in the Zendo (Zen school) at the New Old Lompoc House in Lompoc, California, made the mistake of reading Franz Kafka's The Trial. This sinister novel, combined with Zen training, proved too much for poor Simon. He became obsessed, intellectually and emotionally, with the strange parable about the door of the Law which Kafka inserts near the end of his story. Simon found Kafka's fable so disturbing, indeed, that it ruined his meditations, scattered his wits, and distracted him from his study of the Sutras.

Somewhat condensed, Kafka's parable goes as follows:
A man comes to the door of the Law, seeking admittance. The guard refuses to allow him to pass the door, but says that if he waits long enough, maybe, someday in the uncertain future, he might gain admittance. The man waits and waits and grows older; he tries to bribe the guard, who takes his money but still refuses to let him through the door; the man sells all his possessions to get money to offer more bribes, which the guard accepts -- but still does not allow him to enter. The guard always explains, on taking each new bribe, "I only do this so that you will not abandon hope entirely."
Eventually, the man becomes old and ill, and knows that he will soon die. In his last few moments he summons the energy to ask a question that has puzzled him over the years. "I have been told," he says to the guard, "that the Law exists for all. Why the does it happen that, in all the years I have sat here waiting, nobody else has ever come to the door of the Law?"
"This door," the guard says, "has been made only for you. And now I am going to close it forever." And he slams the door as the man dies.

The more Simon brooded on this allegory, or joke, or puzzle, the more he felt that he could never understand Zen until he first understood this strange tale. If the door existed only for that man, why could he not enter? If the builders posted a guard to keep the man out, why did they also leave the door temptingly open? Why did the guard close the previously open door, when the man had become too old to attempt to rush past him and enter? Did the Buddhist doctrine of dharma (law) have anything in common with this parable?
Did the door of the Law represent the Byzantine bureaucracy that exists in virtually every modern government, making the whole story a political satire, such as a minor bureaucrat like Kafka might have devised in his subversive off-duty hours? Or did the Law represent God, as some commentators claim, and, in that case, did Kafka intend to parody religion or to defend its devine Mystery obliquely? Did the guard who took bribes but gave nothing but empty hope in return represent the clergy, or the human intellect in general, always feasting on shadows in the absence of real Final Answers?
Eventually, near breakdown from sheer mental fatigue, Simon went to his roshi (Zen teacher) and told Kafka's story of the man who waited at the door of the Law -- the door that existed only for him but would not admit him, and was closed when death would no longer allow him to enter.
"Please," Simon begged, "explain this Dark Parable to me."
"I will explain it," the roshi said, "if you will follow me into the meditation hall."
Simon followed the teacher to the door of the meditation hall. When they got there, the teacher stepped inside quickly, turned, and slammed the door in Simon's face.
At that moment, Simon experienced Awakening."

@devillicharsi
these questions comes from ur conciousnes,(I also have the same ones!!!)who am I ,who is god....because when the conciousnes is awakening, do such as those quest just to know everything till reach the supreme state of conciousnes and get fully complete awakened ready and able to merge with god...
As we do meditation regularly, those questions are starting to answer while by while, day by day ,year by year...with realisations, visions, energetic activations, personal inituitions...as u start meet ur body better and how the microcosmic system works, then more energetic channels are activating, and more light we receive...more things we see inside and understand...
it is impossible to know everything ,the complete light of gnosis just in a few years after the first awakening questions, just insist with faith and believe and be patient with love... and as @sure smoke a lot said the truth is in "this"moment,in the second that passes,...and we loose it as we thinking and make it complex...!!!
just be here now in present,in the moment, not in past or future with the mind, this is the most true and sure from all the other stuff...this is how I train my self daily,to observe each details of the second I see hear and feel...
...easy to say it in theory, but difficult to do it in practise...and there are some moments where my sensetions became so much sensitive and conciously awakened where I trully see things more clear with more and more light...brighter...

being a spectator is 1 of the base points of every meditation infact for me every meditation is jus another method of reminding urself of being a spectator then may it be throgh zen, compasion, love, aghora, tantra, hinduism or ne other thing

and realising that there is nothing to realise is enlighment but it easy said then realised

it is said that when laughing buddha realised the 'ultimate thruth' he jus cud'nt stop laughing at the stupidity (simpleness) of it and how everyone is missing it each and every moment and he cud'nt stop laughing his whole life.           the problem with valuing art is, till u dont understand it, it's worthless but wen u do understand it, it's priceless!!

No, one doesnt do different things when one is enlightened but one does everyhitng with awreness. One starts to act.All the time we are reacting to what is done and said to us, all our actions are nothing but a reaction. action comes from the center. One's actions are motivated from unconditional love.
One doesnt seek the light, its there and we are made up of it, one just realize it.It's not us who wants to get enlightened. It's not our will. The creation wants to perfect itself & to reach it's highest form. This is collective and that's the reason you will find so many people asking this question unlike before. Infact today we have more enlightened people than before. When we talk about evolution of creation, according to mayan calendar we are in 8th underworld and in 2011(oct), we will enter 9th where ethics will take over power. 9th is the highest level. all pyramids thus in egypt or central america have 9 levels. And according to Hindu Yugas(eras). we are now in ascending treta yuga(silver age). It is because our sun with it's planets too is revolving around the central sun of our galaxy which is called Vishnu Nabhi in our language and Hunab Ku in Mayan language. It is when we are closest to the central sun of the galaxy(source), we come out of our ignorance and realize our true nature and relationship with all. And when we move away from it, we again become ignorant and move towards kaliyuga(iron age).We have entered a phase where humans will realize their role as co creators and start participating in the evolution of creation.

Love & Light.

@devillichrsi ......... most of the people around have this question and few answers i gathered in my thoughts i reproduce they are vague yet.......

you!!!! are the universe , you! are the loved one , you are the purpose of the universe as the universe is a purpose for you to be here ................. you have not come here to enlighten yourself rather just witness contradicting your fears and your fouls , every life is given to learn a different chapter ....................... all that you are , you are not and you have been given the consciousness not to entangle in thinking "why" rather believe "IS, this IS " live rightly for this moment .......................................................................Meditation is nothing but discovery of the infinite within....... to see that there is only you and that you are everything .........that construction of this universe had you as a witness and that you shall be present when it collapses to begin a fresh, Since you!!! had no end and there is no beginning for you ..............You!!!! are improvising in every life....... learning could be the only purpose of this consciousness .........learning to love ........not how to but just love everything that comes ...........love the downhill of life and experience the pains ......................happiness is to be enjoyed and to spread ...................

All you expect from yourself is to lead a life not any extraordinary but to live it rightly .......... doing your karma each day without fail which also includes lazing around and thinking what you are think each day ......................

You !!! shall never forget this life's experience but will choose to forget in your next one ............... you will choose your own next life to improvise and evolve better in the physical world ........

To focus sometimes you need to spin hard on your soul's axis..... just don't ask how and what it means ;)

my beliefs
we all get enlightened every day
just dat we dont realise it coz we r looking out for da bigger picture.......... dat big explosion within....... well its da small things dat matter first..... we need to pay attention in r daily lives to da small tidbits dat make our day n realise dem n thank dem for appearing to us....... once u've realised dis.......... de enlightening is on it's way...........
we need to start appreciating each day for wat it has to offer.

Samael Aun weor said that we should be the spectator of our own self ,of our own conciousnes ,just to see our egos,n search for their roots, and then get rid of them conciously...psychological work each second that passes...each time we find an ego ,ask from mother Shackti Kundalini to destroy this ego, making it a cloud of cosmic dust...
Baba said(Sri Sri Anandamurti)that we dont have to look n search for our mistakes all the time, just only the autosuggestion for the vision of ur ultimate final goal, and daily regular sadhana with unconditional love do this work unconcioulsy,so that means while by while everything comes by its own...

the first is the hard difficult conciously way,the second is the easy unconciously way,the choice is yours...

Well, IMHO, if you know what enlightenment means, ur almost already enlightened.
But does being enlightened mean that you understand the truth about everyting... the universe? The start n the end? Human thought is constrained by our learnings; by the laws of physics.... No wonder no one know where the universe ends or does it even have one? But how is it that we accept this fact that the universe is infinite when every other thing we know is finite?
I dunno the truth... I'm nowhere close!
I only live with the comfort of knowing that I'm not the only one!
However learned or scholarly we are, no one has ever know everything about everyting...That's y we are nothing but human..
Maybe the truth is not that far... maybe it's right in our faces!
We just fail to notice it!

If we look for enlightment and have love for everyone,everything...surely one day we will achive to enlighten our selves ,soon or later, so dont worry guys...light is coming ,put ur sunglasses on to receive it without get blind...!!!

Let me ask something, how much freedom we have when we act n do something?

Sid/OoRjA said that the actions we do are just reactions, that means karmic obligations from past actions, that we must pay the karmic price in one way or another and finnaly do the reaction...
Each action we do comes from the cosmic mind, and creates a karmic seed in the our subconcious mind, wich waits till the karmic law use that past action seed, the right time in the right place and the reaction happens...
Good deeds creates good karma, and bad deeds creates bad karma...
So when something good happens in our life is because our good karma allows us to enjoy this good karmic reaction, the same happens with the bad karma as we do bad karmic reactions...
Looks like we slaves of karma...
But where is the freedom we have here when we act?

p.s.I have the idea that we have discussed that in past, but not bad for a revision if u like

let me put it this way when u put ur back to the sun the direction u'll end wen u start walkin will only take u away from it but if u face it n start walking u'll be walking towards it.

when u do a bad karma u jus create many more complications and layers on the eternal flame and vise versa.           the problem with valuing art is, till u dont understand it, it's worthless but wen u do understand it, it's priceless!!
