This is arguably the only topic in the India section, which has generated so many replies and has had no fights/bitchin/sniping etc...
Come on lets keep it that way...
Now back to the topic ..
The book 'Autobiography of a yogi' is a predominant example of the fact that you dont nned caste or creed to become self aware. After Yogananda went to America, his successor was an American gentleman and today the Self Realization group is run by an American lady ( Daya Mata)
What better example to prove that we dont need prejudice or hold ourselves bound to nationality, color or religion..

dis is da land of Krishna...
Gita is arguably 1 of da best compositions ever...
n Gita clearly mentions hw unimportant caste creed n nationality r...
in fact, da caste system ws conceptualised as an effective distributn of da society as per occupatn...
it was us humans who gave it a dirty hue n chnged its purpose...
n then suddenly u strtd inheriting castes n social status...!!!
Gita clearly portrays da importance of Karma...
it's wat u do, not who ur daddy is...

does ny1 knw there's a distributn in our body 2...?
our head is Brahma, arms r kshatriya, torso is vaishya n limbs r shoodra...
again, dat's based on da role of each part...
da point is dat da entire society is within u 2...
every1 is part of it n it's part of every1...

I started reading the book long back (when I was not into trance or anything remotedly related to peace, spiritualism etc etc et). Left it half way down coz found it too obscure.
I still have paperback edition of it. Guess, need to read once I finish mah current book (The Alchemist). |

I've been exploring Sound and its effects on human Psych with some audio engg friends of mine and came across the Alchemical Octave law which states -
Each musical note, for instance, has a corresponding color, element, energy center in the human body, and electromagnetic frequencies that it resonates with. Brainwaves of a specific frequency, for instance, may be induced by sounds, colors, elements, and electromagnetic fields that are in harmonic relationships. Alchemical reactions may be enhanced in a similar manner. Cross referencing between different charts yields interesting results. A musical melody may be decoded into a chemical formula. A molecular substance may be interpreted as a musical melody. These harmonic relationships are present in all of reality. If you look for them you will find that many common objects display secrets that would be hidden without this basic understanding.Understanding that these octaves of reality extend from sub-atomic particles through the electromagnetic spectrum to the chemical elements to sound waves and brain waves and that each of these facets relate harmoniously to each other is the beginning of a new wisdom.
in english
everything is vibrations and our brain interprets them in diff ways... taste, tempreture, sound, color etc.
kinda takes me back to Matrix.
as a computer engg would say its all diff permutations of 1 and 0.
its all a yes or a no.
At Vipassana i found out Bhubha believed in Kalappa's ... atoms or wavelets that make our body... and the universe.
so what is the diff between spirituality and scientelogy.
for they talking aba the same stuff really.
just sperituality is inside out... look into thy self for the truth and the universe unravels itself and scientelogy would say look unto the universe and unravell your self.
am still contemplating
any comments

yes yes i kind of like started my journey off that book!
it re inforced some insights i had during one of my trips about a month before i landed the book..
and how i landed it was also pretty crazy.. at vt. the shopping area.. after mc donalds.. one book guy selling books on the street.. i boomed a chuu with him and got talking to him.. he spoke very impressive english for someone who is sellign books on the street corner. and he gave the book to me.. big discount also 50 rupees.. when i asked him to like reccomend a book forme.. since i wanted a new book..
so it was quite a trip.. the whole thing!

@ the discussion..
dont know much about the scientific part.. again some refferences from seeing colours with sound ( parties) which i'm sure everyone here would have seen :D:D
other than that i remember "what the bleep do we know" had this one part where they photographed the power of thought on the atoms of a water molecule.. and how we could change the pattern on the atoms just by changing the frame of mine were in..
its pretty trippy..i could have writeen something wrong up here.. but do chcek it out.. it was quite crazy.
also i read that its possible to control the direction of a pin needle which is floating on a small blob of water .. thru thoughts ofcrouse!
has anyone ever tried that?
heh about the martix.. a lot of things freak me out cause they make a lot of sence if you plug it into the matrix frame of thoug ht..
for eg.. the whole the architect and the oracle scene..
elements and fate..
you can draw a whole bunch of parallels maybe..
and also about the who perceptive reality part..
" the spoon is not really there.. so i can bend it"
crazyy
and how we programs ourselves to think and respond in ways which could have originially been unnatural to us..
the placebo effect....
anyways that made me trip that much harder on the movie
it all works out!

the book speaks greatly about yoga and the good it does. how many of us after reading that book actually made an effort to find out about kriya yoga? how many of us are on the path to oneness with the divine being?
has the book influenced us? has it changed our outlook to life?

hello.. welcome to my world...
I havent been back to india in a loong loong time. but my trip has been planned for like ages.. im headin to Vaishnodevi and a whole lotta places i wud shudder to even think abt visitin.. ( i used to throw fits to go to Shirdi!! ) Plus i'm goin to go to the local mosque, temple when i get back, not because im suddenly had a revelation, but just coz i never bothered to before.
My mum is pretty well connedted to the 'Iskon' group and so is my granny..
Also i want to go to that ashram happenin outside Bombay where they make u keep complete silence for 10 days.. no talkin.. no meetin gazes.. I'm Interested in seein if i can do that and if i can really get to know myself.
There's a long way to go before i can even say "self -realization" but hey, my attempts are the first step and im content with that so far..
yes, it did change my outlook on life.. Physically as well as mentally.. I have lost a very aggressive vibe i projected ( maybe coz i boxed for 5 years )
And i also find that im 'lookin fwd'in spendin time away from the girlfriend, family, friends, crowd.. etc.. Spendin time by myself is no longer a task.
I read the book first a long time ago, and since then these changes have progressively become more apparent.
P.s yes.. i'm superman !!!
