Hey all.. I came across this interesting argument so here it is...

We all are educated ( some highly) and pretty much know what we talkin about. But what do u think about the materialistic trend of mordern education. Few schools expound the spiritual laws for happiness or teach the wisdom of guiding one's life.
Our educational system does not present the 'Spirit' as the central fact of Man's existence.
What i mean to say is that the whole 'Guru' thing just disappeared. What happened to learning about 'oneself' and learning about the nobility and great purpose of human life. ??           ~*** You can tell By the way i use my walk, Im a woman's man, No time to Talk***~

another great read, i just finished it - 'the global soul' by pico iyer.

i think iyer is one of the better writers of travel literature...all the places and events he writes about, he has the ability to give them a sort of human quality...another interesting book by him is 'video night in kathmandu' - about how the east is being overrun by the influx of western media, etc...

@ KC the problem with todays education system is that it has many students and the respect between the gurus and the student is over i mean the fear factor BUT still there are places like in higher education and in normal walk of life .....people do find gurus and get guided by them but realistically earlier people conciously or subconciously never had to look for one, they knew that there are people who devotedly have made their lives into teching others But now the teachers and students have developed a relation which is only materialistic for example today the counselling at the institutes is not for what can make you a better person and intellect but "what can earn you more" this is what i percieve ........... what say ?

peace

@jabba
for sure its sadly all abt ur financial future.. im part of it , gearin up for the corporate world and shit..but hell. the argument is sually abt 'reality' and 'practicallity'
but im happy that i schooled in india when i was younger.. and thank heaven it was a boarding school... have u noticed how much more respect there is in asian schools like indian and chinese, japanese compared to the western system... here in america its crap.. the teacher's not a tecaher.. he's gotta tread carefully to make sure he's politically correct always.. take note of ethnicity, race a.. color !!!
Fcuk.. one of my frnds a teacher in high school and he tells me he spends more time not to hurt the kids sentiments than actually being useful

I tell my roommates abt how we had to stand up and wish the teacher and cudnt sit down till he/she said so and they get all bug eyed !!

I've got to say theres nothing like being home in the motherland, thank god i moved back and really thank god i grew up half my life. things would definitely not be the same. it gives you perspective. corporate future for sure, and thats why its good to get out for another view. its all about working hard and playing harder, wish the work was as easy as the partying. going to hit the books now. am reading an unbelievable book on the history of war games from the greeks to the guy from mahabharata. later!            Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

The Darkness, it lies waiting. Dormant but ever ready...to envelope us all. Embrace it or denounce it, one must pick a path.

im not sure about 'mongrel soul'...dont think he has a book out called mongrel soul, but 'the global soul', yes...and people who have lived outside their so called home countries for any length of time, or even spent a sizeable amount of time at airport lounges would definetely identify with a lot of what he has to say...

i picked it up at a bookstore here in delhi...dont think you should have too much trouble finding it.           ----------------------------

wow

amazing lot discussed.

u all missed me a great deal i see

i read black hole... in one of the posts wat was that about.

i know am going back in the loop just could not resist
is u all have been to India and traveled around Pune or Lonavala u would notice there is a small temple on each hillop

high places are known got energies and where a person thought he has good air, scenery and could sit in shade while the herd was grazing they built a small temple...

thats how it started i guess.

by spirituality u mean morality is taught in schools.. is it.

hey has any one here read Das Kapital

i've had science proffs whome i've adored...

and they in B school letched at my marketing proff.

and respected nearly all of them so commanded it

its not the institution that is suffereing it is the teachers who have taken educating others just as another job ... i mean just a job hey do for the sal at the end of the month... it is happening in all the spheres why just here.

some so lost that they forget they setting examples.

Yes.. u cud call it morality.. but i was thinkin more abt teaching in terms of the bigger picture..
Abt Man! ntot man as a bbiological being but a spiritual one..
does that make any sense           ~*** You can tell By the way i use my walk, Im a woman's man, No time to Talk***~

education.. who can you blame..
earlier.. when the economy was more barter oriented.. it was simple deal.. i'll teach your boys how to be men.. and there was a reason only the weathly could afford it.. cause they had to present the guru;s with kind.. you know livestock .. aand so on..
enter money.. you have a medium of exchange and there goes that system of things..

you cant blame the teachers.. well letsa just say a lot of times ive seen teachers streaching themselves in ways they would never have had to ..if their only motivation towards things was money.. its just times in general.. which is why now even more than before the beauty in pure relationships .. is what we awe at..
but education is somethign that you have to teach yourself at the end of the day anyways.. dont always need a guru.. but then belive in the spiritual pattern of thought.. and youll keep finding other people to excahnge notes.. and maybe like find some thought which youdidnt know earlier..or hadnt thought about it in that particular manner.
after all drugs are to "expand your mind"
which is mostly about.. u8nderstanding different perceptions to one common thing.

no one can teach morality.. it comes from within.. because if i just dont feel like doing good.. it dont matter what who teaches me.. i'm gonna do what the fuck i wanna do

@karma..
well dude lets juss say in our country .. spirituality is confused with religion.. very few and minor sects within the country belive that spirituality and religion are disconnected.. hence the emphasis is more on religion .. and the spiritual part is left to the yogi;s and so on..
its called the lemming mentality.. most people want to outsource their thinking.. to what the maximum number of people belive in..
and those who understand this.. can use it to their advantage.
like ive seen advertisements for this one show that comes on star world at 4 in themorning i think.. about christianity.. and one of the lines i saw there was " 5 million ( or 50, whichever) people cant be wrong!"
lol some way to reinforce your religious beliefs.
for some people to advocate that is our forefathers did this.. so were gonna do the same. how can we disrespect them..everyone forgets to think in themiddle of the picture.

but coming back to the point.. there is a brighter future ahead.. or so id like to belive..
replace religion with humanity and morality . because at the end of the day .. thats what its all about.. but then we dont have any cool 8 armed gods or goddess in our corner.. just some neo hippys tryiing to convincepeople that what they belive in is somethign they havent given a thought to..
kind of a hard way to go about.. but soon when this catches enough metro "coolness" points.. enough junta would call themselves spiritual beings.. so trust me its better this way!
