We make all styles of trance but yesterday I kind of hit a quandry... Im thinking as an artist how important is it to release only one 'style' or sound in order to build up recognition. Could an artist release/compose a very varied range of music in terms of night/morning/prog/full on? or should you divide the genres up and form alternate projects?

Any views on this? Also referring directly to an artist marketability for gigs etc. As well as ability to sell tracks.

cool.

seperate names .. i did it.

yet im not sure its the best way , now peaple not know its me both of them

but you can make many tunes with same name and just send to labels by the style then u confuse peaple (it might turn out the best way)

and still , i rather seperation to avoid confusion (bookings etc.)

Narrowmindedness breads narrowminded music.

Most really skilled production artists seem to produce a multitude of musical sounds.

It makes sense, for the really talented just to be messing around with the same shit all the time is just not enough.

But yeah, if you are narrowminded, make narrowminded music, you have a better chance at releasing on narrowminded labels and playing music for narrowminded crowds.

So, if thats your thing

There probably is a future in narrowmindedness.

I try to make it all for a few good reasons.

1. I like it all.

2. I think with good knowledge of all syles at hand you can be much more expressive.

3. If I ever release an artist album I want it to have real identity and a strong story to go with it.

Can agree with tsvi at the confusing part/point .

Also many artists that produce other styles but 1 want to be connected to each project by other touch , feeling and energys , Can tell on myself soon new release of 'Black Machine' - TechTrance (Oscuro and i) But at the same time im working on other works of myn (Dark stuffs) By me & Other project called 'Interior Torture' . I think working on different music some times are realy open the mind , Makes all being more interesting and curious , let the artist being creative and pro .

I make both psytrance as well as ritual ambient using the same pseudonym... It's all a part of my audiotory introversy, hence I personally find no reason to separate my stuff... My five cents...            Aural transmissions from the deep forests of Sweden

I think no matter what you do it will sound like you. You see for me music is not the beat it's the story, the melodies and the sounds! You true artist can express himslef through the story and change the beat as he likes...

my humble opinion           Boom :)

I would stick to 1 name - less confusing!!

As SK & TsaB say :- Don't matter what style of music u make, it's all U anyways!

It should be a matter of pride for one who exhibits his/her skill and fluency in a multiple range of musical genres!!

there are a number of artists who end up making a number of styles. electrypnose makes hardcore dark, some morning, as well as chill out music. ocelot makes dark, and recently released a really great morning album. most artists dabble with ambient/chill out along with psychedelic music, like protoculture, silicon sound (with jaia), and elec3. its really interesting to see how these artists view other styles of music. seeing this, i think it would probably make more sense to have seperate projects for different genres as it could be quite confusing for promoters and organisers, to assume what kind of music you'll play. perhaps greater communication with organisers could help identify their expectations.

I would stick to one alias for two reasons.
One, i would be makin psychedelic music, and if anyone wants to label it this genre or that doesn't matter. My music would be distinctive in any form. It would be an an extremely personal interpretation and that individuality would be apparent in all the styles.
Secondly, i hate limitations! , so far as marketability is involved, I'd rather be booked by people who want something fresh and unique. Obviously, timing is everything so the music will always be changing and free of any boundaries.           ~*** You can tell By the way i use my walk, Im a woman's man, No time to Talk***~

thanks for the interesting feedback... to me it seems that its a good idea (for now anyway) to run all my psytrance projects under the same name... as has been mentioned my underlying production sound will kind of be consistent throughout all styles music.

But im still thinking why is it that all the big guys with an exception of one or two of them have a very consistent sound and style...

ja... thanks for the feedback.

I'd prefer to use one name, even though it is a little confusing..
Artists that produce multiple styles are great..shows how dynamic their skills are..

The best artists have a consistent sound and style because it is a perfect reflection of themselves through the music. They search sounds to express themselves and make it perfect, thus they arrive at the combination of sounds that most perfectly fills there souls feeling!
