Well as organiser and in my own experience the fee of artists can varie in function of many questions, sometimes as stupid as if u have a good relationship or not with them ,but usual paramters are the size of party and country , for example the fee can varie between continents , to take an example alien project can cost 3000 euros in Europe and 5000 in south america in countries like Brasil or Mexico ,and other factors are the size(party or festival), many factors enter in this decision of booking then a variable fee that can surprise u sometimes hehehe in good or bad way

it's not hard to know if an event will be sucsessfull or not. if the lineup is good, the promoter isn't dodgy and the PR work is done correctly then the party will be a sucsess, if the party is a faliure then perhaps that promoter shouldn't have done it in the first place.
a3k, I'm talking about established artists not upcoming unknown ones. and yes, sometimes you meet artists that will be wiling to come and play somewhere for free (just for the travel expenses).

and if you lose money then it's up to you (the promoter and his backer if he has one) to be able to cover up all the loses and pay the artists for services rendered.
FYIY alot of the artists are willing to play for a reduced fee if they know that the promoter isn't making alot of money on their back and that the party is in a true underground spirit where the fun people get counts more the the money the promoter counts in the end (spoken from personal experience).

Detox, I think I'm entitled to an opinion, and NO, Tiesto is not psy, IMHO.
You can say whatever you want, but most music you call "psy" has lost all touch with psy-ness about 4 years ago....a darn shame too... I might be young and not that experienced but I got tired of Infected Mushroom (is that psy for you?) after about two months, and can't let go of Suomi and friends for over two years now....and I'm a person who likes to get into music...Believe me, I've tried it all, but to finish off this rant, Tiesto isn't psy.

A little while ago I suggested to some promoter friends of mine (who are amongst the most honest and open organisers I have ever worked with) that they published each act or DJ's fee on the flyer or the website. In return each live act would supply accurate details of the extent to which their performance was 'live'.
Personally I'd have no problem with this as an honest relationship between promoters, artists and the public is essential in my view if the spirit of the scene is to be honoured. An understanding of the production budget of a party will help all concerned appreciate the cost and effort involved in putting on an event, and would highlight to those interested that such an event was not being put on simply to line the pockets of the promoters (as promoters out to make a profit would be unlikely to share this information for fear that people would find out just how much money they were making). There is a risk that it would put more emphasis on the financial aspect of the party than is comfortable, but if done sensitively I think it could be of benefit to all those involved with the business of psytrance events.
