then u need to contanct the artists (or their publisher/copyright administrator) and ask them. if the're not represented by a company it would usualy be no problem. if it's a small publisher (like MPDQX or Automatic) then it might also work. but the big guys usually won't allow it.           Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.

I think it's too much work having to contact each artist for whose track may be on a mix...so i'm not gonna put any mixes for download           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

Ask the DJ's who want to put D/L mixes to do it.

or contact your local colection agency and check with them you might find out that u have to pay 0.10 EU per mix.           Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.

Dovla, don't let DrBorris put you off (no offence meant). I've had a site up for 18 months which only has mixes available for download, and the only feedback I've had from labels and artists has been good. Make sure you try and put a track list with them, and then most will see it as good promotion. Also make sure the mixes are properly beatmixed as well. go for it and good luck           I said no to drugs... but they didn't listen

'in law' and 'in practise' can be two seperate worlds... I've never heard of a label growing upset with someone for a track in an online mix. Just be sensitive and respectful, I don't think there's more to it than that...

Opinion: (putting aside all legal aspects at the moment )

The world of mp3 and the trading business is a threat to our community.

On the other hand I think that DJ mixes have value in spreading the sounds out and feeding the hungry ears of people who love this genre.

I feel that Dj mix's - low bit or not fulfill, not 100%, the thirst of the people that resort to trading.           Trancelucent Productions

Never said it is bad.
Again i belive that in our comunity geting a licsence / permision to use tracks in an Internet mixset isn't a problem. but hey I for instance would rather go through the biocracy and get it clean.           Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.

Im curious if the producers who are complaining about their music being used in peoples DJ's mixes without permission are paying royalties / getting permission from the Hollywood movies they rip their samples from.

Just an observation

I was always under the impression (at least in the USA) creating a DJ mix for promotional purpose is fully legal without any permission needed... unless released on CD format.

Hey people...can you tell me is it ok to host dj mixes on a site....I want to promote the local djs here by putting their dj sets on a site free for download in a low quality mp3 bitrate so it doesnt have a big file size and can be faster to download....can you tell me if that's ok or is it a problem because of the labels...
to Dovla: I have the same problem but you
must write that is not to be send and it's only for promotion !!! and you have any problem,
but don't forget to give a big thanks to all artists who are on it !!

From what i've gathered it's goes even further in belgium, if i make a track and play it live or on cd at a party, i would have to pay for the performance/copy-right even if the track is not registered. IF i register the track and it's being listed on the track lists (every song played that evening) i might see a little money from it... but never anything near what the organiser would pay the (c) organisation

webradio's have to pay, just send a mail to the more known ones to ask how they go about this.           www.psytracks.com :: Brand new website for sharing your psytracks with the world. Get a free 250Mb Artist profile, Blog and events calender!

the taxi drivers have to pay yearly fee here if they want to listen to the radio while there are people in the taxi

if everything goes as planned soon also churches have to pay for the music           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

i have never heard of a party promoter or a club owner pay anything for every track a dj plays on a given night... just imagine how many tracks are played during the night... worse, imagine the numbers of tracks played on a 7-day festival! lol
