Look we all love the nasty stuff in trance music but can it be taken too far? Some Djs seem to specialise in playing music that will send trippers into weird and negative thought spirals.

Some people really flip out after trance parties and I wondered what Djs who play really nasty trance think about the affect it might have on people.

But of course most people listening are going to be on drugs and it seems some djs get a kick out of screwing up people's brains

what would psychedelic music be if it didn't fuck with your head?!?!?!? It is the dark music that really gets inside your mind and lurks around. Exploring and expanding your mind, through the darkness and into the light...you can't be afraid of what is in your mind, just embrace it.

funny, I had this same thought some time ago... but I really think they arent that subtle (maybe a small minority is) and yes i've been affected by nasty music. This was probably due to all the scenario and my mood though.

Nice post!
          cna't find it

?!?! -they seems to u that they like if ppl looks sad ?!? ( ...ppl with screwd up brains looking sad no ? -or mad... )...huh...interested what the artists says here.

but i agree with maygun...it s ( or should be ) psychedelic noise...it should twist your minds...helps getting trance states...but i m shure nobody likes to harm anyone.

No, this is just too much. Let's blame all our problems on someone else - how about the DJ?? If you have baggage in your head then it will come up at some point - even if you try to hide from it by taking Prozak or listening to Britney Spears.

Yes - certain dark psy will stimulate the release of those clogged neural pathways, I am sure. This is what dark, night psy is all about - taking you for a journey into the darkest, deepest parts of your psyche. Like Maygun said - through the darkness and into the light.

And NO - nobody out there becomes a psytrance DJ because they are evil and want to fuck with your mind. In fact, usually, it's the opposite - they want to help you get you into a higher state of consciousness by helping you release the negativity through music.

djs are evil and thats how it supose to be..
they should try to fuck up many brains as they can..

this is what trance all about, fucking our brains..
if someone cant handle it than he shouldn't go to parties..           http://www.o-zen.com/art/ranal

Oh really, get over it! I don't think Djs are evil, that was just a sexy subject to get people interested
but i stick by my point that there are djs out there who aim to mess with (not repair) minds and was hoping to get some perspective from someone who plays the nastiest of nasty and what their intention is.
This is not a "blame the dj" issue, of course people choose to go to parties and hear twisted sounds

For example, I saw Talamasca play a set at about midday at Rainbow Serpent festival in Australia at it was nasty without relenting.
A bunch of dirt cheap acid had flooded the party just before he started (which I assume he brought) and the effect of his set on the crowd was really negative - there were no cathartic morning grins left by the end of it.
For me that is not what partying is about. I accept that the really dark stuff has to be on offer for those who need a good brain shake in the dark of night but during the day, for me, it is about joyful tunes

a small comment...

if you want to check the effect of music on your mood, or see how music can be used to create mood. just take any "scary" scene in a movie and watch it without sound. only then you you can estimate the amount of "mood" that the music and or sound has contributed to the scene. usually its alot. in fact some of the scariest shit ive seen on the tv was dudu topaz (an israeli tv show) and his freak show. ive seen it with the sound turned off and it almost made me puke

cheers

When I saw Talamasca this past summer, he played sunrise, and it was nonstop cheese. I was wishing he would play something older, darker, but noooooo.

I like to get really dark during my sets, for maybe 4 or 5 tracks, then let it up a little, maybe play a morning tune, then get deep again. I like to bring up stuff in people, and if done properly, the darkest music elicits the most cathartic response from the crowd.

Also, I don't think any psytrance is evil or too dark for experienced minds. Not even Tim Schuldt or Xenomorph, not at all.

THere's some music out there that is... truly dark. try Current 93, Death in June, some Coil... to start.
