i can´t say i prefer this over that, i base my judge on if i like the music or not... it might be a great artist or a mediocre.. if the track is good then its good...
i think simple ideas are a bless, and a guitar can let you express your inner self... just as much as any instrument.
you dont have to twist every knob just to make it sound like nothing else... why not just express ourselfs with the sound... be it a synth or a ukulele..
i prefer a artist that dont always quantize 
that freeplay some melody or sounds and just go with the feeling.. though i also think that the feeling of mechanical is very powerfull.. though what would mechanics be without humans?
go with the flow! whats wrong might be right in the end, and whats right might be wrong in the end... loco!

You know what i mean when designing a patch on a synth which you have sculped in a way that will suite your need to express your self... and then just grab the knobs and record a session... what a rush!
to make a sound that you can express in many ways is a challange, and its very good practise.. its so much fun to go creative over a synth that you know very well.. making the sound come alive! by twisting the knobs.. ohh those knobs, im getting horny on synth tweakage as we speak....

keep in mind that a lot of people make really terrible music and end up famous..
as far as psytrance, we all have the opportunity to make good music, again its just your skill level and creativity level |

Defining "good music" is kinda tricky. Dat Politics for instance (while they don't make psytrance) would be defined by most people as "total shit that sounds like it's made by a kindergartener with a broken FX module" for the most part, yet some people just can't get enough of it. There really are no rules for this. I consider Aphex Twin's "...I Care Because You Do" a masterpiece, while most people think it's just underproduced and unmusical crap. I also don't like Infected Mushroom - The Gathering, as I see it as a cheap bastardization of everything that's good about Simon Posford (ok, I'm exagerating this).
Can anyone make good music? Sure. It matters for which audience. Personally, I believe that the only one who can make the perfect music for you is yourself, so maybe it's just a one man minority (god, I just love paraphrasing Orwell), but that really should be good enough. Unless (of course) you're looking for making money off it - and in that case, no, not anyone can do this, only most people with some monitors.

IN psytrance....it comes to 2 things....
1) Sound production part ( where you have to know , stuff about sound and eq' sound space 'compressors 'effects ' etc ) and where you showing how good you know to program a synth so he is modulating oscilating or whatever , and showing how good is your knowledge about general mixdown of your track.... ah yes and then you have mastering part which gives the final touch .
Then comes a part which goes together with the first one , but lately i see ppl more concetrate on the first one rather on this one..
2) Composing melodies + arragement part
Where you will give the mood the trip the dynamic of your track and your feeling /emotion you are trying to bring to the audience...
The final product is now ready to be tested
Well its all subjective...but in most cases it goes like this |

if you have ideas and muse than you can make music if you try hard
if you dont have ideas and you try hard than you could end up with something bad that you wont like or maybe something almost identical with the rest of the music that getting released these days.. it can sound great but it will be boring and not realy creative
you dont need anything you born with but you need good ideas and you need to hear the music playing in your head...

agreed 100% but it is not so robotic as it seems, to make the right atmosphere and exaclty what you have in mind you need shit loads of time and money for equipment plus let's not forget the most important thing, the hearth, the energy to create something new!

call it talent , vision , or whatever.
lots of practice is also improtant offcourse not just talent , but still.. not anybody can do it (thibk of your 50 years old neighbour)

what is music? noise? just any sound?
i listen to industrial which by many people hardly would be called "music", or minimal which is atonal and thereby also is disqualified as "music" by classic definiton.
So I guess the question is rather pointless, as there is no absolute definition of music.
As soon as your talking about commercial successful it becomes a whole different story as this can be measured in numbers.

There is a definition of real music, you see real music lasts forever, you may get bored of hearing a real music album for a million times but be sure that after sometime you will hear it again and wonder how it was made or what a great feeling it has! You see real music lasts forever in our hearths because it is a reflection and expression of something deep inside the artists hearth. Other music dies quickly and i do not call this music at all for me it's just sound and not good enough...To make real music it takes a whole lot of work and full dedication it's absolutely not easy at all and many years pass till you reach your goal but beleive me it's worth it cause then every track you do you will love with all your hearth
