Completely agree with you Colin even though some people have talent they really need to look for something more unique, i mean come one we are full of beautiful sounds why waste time on the ones that everyone uses?

It's a fair point Colin, but I think we're addressing slightly different questions perhaps.
I completely agree that all of that might be what it takes to produce the next 'bp empire' or 'lone deranger' etc (psytrance-wise), but my understanding of the original question was a bit more forgiving.
Of course if you dismiss a large proportion of artists out there as not making 'good' music then yes, it is very difficult, no doubt about that.
I guess I was saying that if you want to be another ( X ) clone then you can probably learn how to do it - and that doesn't mean the music is 'bad' as such, just not revolutionary.
Unrealistic as it may be, I think it is healthy in many ways to never think of stuff as impossible to accomplish.. hehe although when I watch X-Factor auditions I get the feeling I would never have written the same thing if this thread had been about learning to sing

just as it is in writing and art, a huge amount of them are out there, but only few of them are "real explorers of the world", others just copy their explorations and gain lower level of respect. |

We all have different Skills and talents..
of course you need skill and talent, but it sounds like just a few people have it... we all have something inside of us and it takes hard work to get your skill and talent to see the daylight...
you can see if a child has talent in something, some sort of genetic attribute...
but this talent need to be polished.. is that what we call skill?

I think everyone progresses in skill at different levels and speeds..in other words, some people are so slow with understanding how to make music that it would be almost impossible for them to go anywhere with it in their lifetime, I know that from experience with trying to work with others. |

I can agree with it but i would also hear the definition of "success"
Since the definition of success comes in a wide variety of flavors, depending on what kind of person you are.

yeah i would also want that definition.. if you read my first post in this thread i try to get a defention on it..
So what is success? and which kind of success are you after? im after spiritual success(meaning to be a good person and do whats right to my hearth and others) , and success in communication and expression through music.. well not only music but communication in general..
and last but not least, im in the search for a freeflow, to release my self in music and fly away.. right now sonkite is doing a damn good job taking me on a journey..

you need more than just the will.....creativity,the vision,the psychedelic intelligence quotient,the skill to judge your own music....and yes....capital....monetary or otherwise...to set it all up(your sound factory...  ) for yourself.....!

There is.... real music is .. Bethoven , Mozart , Bah , etc etc...succesefull music is ...Skazi , Infected Mushroom , Madonna , all r and b and hip hop shit...
So in trance...i would say ...really "MUSIC" is Infected mushroom , Astrix , Yahel , Deedrah , why i think they are....becuase..they use in their music the most complicate music harmonies and scales i meen , not the most complicate , but they COMPOSE most serious melodies and themes , which many many many ppl in trance cant even come close to that ...so if we see the music back 200 - 300 years ago ..when there were no...effects , no compressor , no reverb or effect , how the music was classified ? by the melodies and composition , if you were making then killer themes ,melodies ,arragement and in the end complete song , you were the recognisable musician .If not...then you didnt had autotune or delays or whatsoever to cover up your wholes in knmowledge...you were bad  .

There are a few great songs which were played by 3-4 accords, what that means is things doesnt have to be complicated and superscaled in order to be good and counted as music. Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd is reaaaly simple, but its an amazing song.
I dont think you must COMPOSE most serious melodies in order to make graet music, many ones show us that in the past few years.
Thats my theory.
Music is music, sophisticated or simple, only the quality of it counts.

I think that to make great music today you need great serious melodies and a supernew psychedelic sound...to make great music you have to use everything that is possible nowadays to get your sound much better than anyone else...For me if an artist come up with a sound that is of the same level as of today is good but if he comes with a sound which is better than he is very good! You see many people stop and think there sound is good but other people continue to travel in the knobs and circuits of psychedelic machines until they find something that was never nefore or better than before, then i prefer these artist for sure.
