virus B/C are good choice for the price but to me it s more to get your hands/feel on a synth that can be inspiring and more fun..than for the sound, for me i stick to plugins unless the synth don t sound like plugins and virus the gap is to close..plugs even have better filters and oscillators imo

what it may lack is the cheap da coloration but this you send your plugs in a good fx even a analog one and it s done.. the color and fxs will take over the sound and what ever come in that is decenlty programed will sound good at the output

but virus b/c are just price of two or 3 plugins, so definelty make sense if you like knobs

when you put it like that, one would get the impression that the filters on the Virus are average sounding, while they're not. I think they sound incredibly liquid and warm. it's one of the top things in the Virus, for me. also a thing that differs from the B, since on the C you get the analogue (ladder filter emulation) filters that can really add flavour to more analogue tones, self oscillating resonance kicks, screaming stuff, so forth and so on...

I think one of the key aspects of the Virus, though, is in the soft knobs, allowing you to change many parameters at once with one knob, even crazy recursive mod stuff that allows you to go much deeper then most VA stuff. But again, it's sound is a matter of taste, like POM clearly (keeps eheh) pointing out.

Nord Lead is a more direct interface, nothing's hidden from you, sound is more clear and crisp on the Highs, less fat on low mids and bass, but also superb interface (those are two of my favourite panels to get my hands on, to this day) and sounds like the Nord, special FM, very different from Virus and Albino and Zebra...

About DSI, I love the Evolver's sound and feature set. Don't really know the other ones. Can't see a reason why people would flame them on GearSlutz, to be honest, I think the little ones are as full featured as the Monotron and looks rather similar for the price, making them not much attractive, but seriously doubt that's related to the sound in any way. It's just to much buck, for non existent interface, just very basic features (even for the 70's), and the bigger ones cost a big fortune, making people look elsewhere. Moog has better bang for buck I think, with the Phatty stuff and Minitaur, real nice sounding stuff if you're into the Moog kind of sound.

Roland JP8080 has some different features from JP8000 and similar sound, usually shows up cheap on second hand market. But unless you're into the supersaw kind of thing, think there are better options on the VA (Virus and Nord, Supernova2).

An analog filter changes a digital synth's over all sound, so much.
Even the Moogefoogers with some overdrive make the Virus sound so much different (and much better to my ears).

I am also of the opinion that the Virus filters are average sounding....they are not bad for sure, but I put the Virus through a Sherman Filterbank and I was blown away at how much better it sounded, to me anyway.

Can't wait to put the Virus through the Make Noise MMG, Toppobrillo Multifilter and Malekko VCA. Also eager to check out the Malleko Output to see how the stereo function works.

I was a Virus hater, but I forced my self to work with it some more and eplore the wavetable/FM side of it, which combined with its deep modulation matrix and arpeggiator, gave me some patches, analog can't touch, after all there are no analog wavetables.

A Virus B/C is tremendous bang for the buck nowdays. Loads of knobs and great build quality as well.

Plus 1 for the malekko vca, I got the version 1 , and had a wiggle with the exponential adjustment on the back,
Man this can ripp , like any distortion pedal
And can be just as sweet as chanel clipping when you dial the pot back

Defo a worthy vca, once you get an optomix after It , justs gets better,

Mmg and malekko vca IS posford style leads
toppobrillo is 808 kicks and toms, and res can be just as fishy as a 303, (bit of patching, but it csn be done)
And is super nice at fm as well

I do like those filters a lot, combined with either analogue boost or the filter stage saturation, depending on sounds, it can sound very lush to my ears - even put next to the big ones. Of course you wouldn't use it for Moogy sounds once you have a real Moog next to it, or even Diva for that matter XD, but with it's own thing, I think it sounds dope and very distinct... To me, avarage sounding digital filters would mean something like Korg Radias...

I mean, Waldorf's digital filters (not talking the analogue ones) can't also compare to analogue filters and sounds dope to my ears as well, very harsh on the highs, go very well with those PPG kind of sounds they can pull out, don't exactly cut it for analogue retro sounds either...

I like digital sound, a lot actually... combined with analogue, like you're saying, even better. so you got me, analogue/digital hybrids would be my thing XD, or patching away gear of sorts also... actually, even modular (if only money would flow more easily...)

about the analogues mentioned here, think the Moog stuff is probably best bang for buck, Waldorf Pulse 2 on the cheaper side seems very well speced and I personaly like the kind of sound (but not to everyone's taste for sure).

Mini and micro brute as well, not evryones cuppa tea but still a full warm sound and a huge range off sound for a single oscillator synth,

Legendary filter as well, steiner parker filter, ,,
Plus you get to integrate it with existing modular equipment
Arjturia micro brute gives
Midi-Cv
Analoge filter input
Step sequencer
Arpegiator
Aftertouch

And pprobably a few other things           Â°Â°Â°ACTS 4:12°°°°

only thing I don't like is how the sound breaks up at the very low cut-off frequency, but other than that, its great. Love that metallic tone it has.

That resonance on the kom a is rigt up ma street like, but changes as the filter frequencey drops, which is where I would gk with it immediately, so it kinda put me off,
And it looks kinda fidley to get sweet spots,

But I aint tried one so its all conjecture thru videos and demos

Pitsburgh got a new resonant LPG thats meant to be Gummy as fuck, cheep as chips in vactrol filters

Pitsburgh are worthy, dont be put of by the low prices,,

nice video, sounds very good.

one doubt I have is: you connect a normal S/PDIF connection from the audio interface into it, right? My S/PDIF connection is a fairly regular one, not surround I think
