I've heard the same question since 1994 and yet USA haven't picked up on the psy except in a very very small scale compared to the number of people living in USA. I doubt USA ever will since the music scene there is very conservative = Rock, R'n B, Hip Hop and House.

the size of the scene is not growing drastically vis a vis the population (about 300 million)
there are sizeable scenes on both coasts comparable to anything in Europe country wise.
Israel is a different story. its big. but the twisted stuff is just as small there so...

by the way Pavel. Despite some people who think I am a murderer or something I make some nice morning music too. for some older stuff thats somewhere between goa and progressive download from http://www.enabled.com/~ocelot

the new album "vectorSelector" covers a lot of territory- most of it quite psychedelic but at least half of it is NOT night music. Try the first two tracks and the last 3 for example...
http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/dro/dro1cd101.html

anyway- the original post of this thread is about an art movement in San Francisco and MOE is a record label. The Blue House is an art collective of sorts. SOME of the artists have released on the Mistress of Evil records and Amanda from MOE lived in the Blue House at one time. The MOE label uses the word "evil" in their promotions yes. I have a difference here. You can discuss the philosophy behind it with them.

Please do not characterize this entire San Francisco art movement as "nighttime dark twisted psycho murder etc..."
as its not.
While certain artists may make some twisted tracks, they also make fun happy bouncy tracks and chilled out space music too.
the main project is making good trance music and the bulk of it is happy upbeat fun high energy music.

no- its not "limp wristed" but there is nothing sinister about a lot of it. Its high energy.

Enough with this gory verbal "killer" crap. I refuse to submit to this utterly stupid categorization of shit.
putting all these artists and all of their different art into one box is not fair or correct. not allowed. not ok.
OPEN YOUR MINDS PEOPLE PLEASE!
its psychedelic art.
its new.
its bound to make a splash.
dont believe the hype.
bom

BTW the word Killer is now officially extinct. I do not think Killing is good.
Do you? maybe i don't want to party with you then as i don't trust you.

I listened to ocelot this weekend, and well... I went a little crazy. Nothing horrible but crazy enough.

Is this what you want ocelot ? Do you want me to go mad ?

I never meant to offend you ocelot but I think you need to chill out and stop letting word like "killer" and "twisted" trouble your sensitive political correctness.

I never said that SF produces only dark nightime trance but I did say that the talent pool which is brewing there (and that you're a part of is definetly exporting itself into europe and elsewhere. Let me assure you, when the only labels were ceiba and perhaps spectral concepts, SF was not a worldwide recognized trance city when it came to producers (goa gil being more of a figurehead than a producer). Even biodegrable didn't start getting much recognition until after they broke up (you should know that sam et cie broke up before their release on acidance).

Now we both know that psytrance existed before the advent of this new "killer" and "evil" generation of producers but, as you might have noticed, dark trance is starting to get released much more that before when it was limited to fringe labels like parvati and stoneage. Now I can't count the months where there isn't at least a new dark label popping out...

Don't get me wrong, I love waterjuice, jirah and some of the more chilly morning producers from the west coast and I look foward to hearing your new change in direction. Let me assure you that I have never "killed" anybody and I don't plan to, but I do take the take the term loosely when describing music. People don't tend you use terms like "crazy" or "psychotic" because it doesn't sell as good and "high energy" makes me think of that crappy 90s cybertrance movement (am I to understand you fit into that scene?) just kidding

Anyhow keep up the music buddy, and forget the labels, but keep on making those <insert killer label here> tunes!!

hey thanks! i met Cosmo- he uses the word killer a lot.
i guess i have to get over it even if it reminds me of kids these days with too many video games and no attention span
check out HighCosmos btw- its super duper stuff for sure. Cosmo vs Highko did a 'killer' live set at the Full Moon...

yesss... no avanguard music here.. no captain beefheart, dead kennedys and frank zappa, skinny puppy, richie hawtin and derrick may, merck and schematics records, john zorn and bill laswell, the whole new york experimental jazz/electronica movement.. i am as always impressed with your generalizations, Kristian.

I feel the next step in this forefront of EDM are Fractal Cowboys and Onnomon. Their music is the most interesting for me, pushing stylistic boundaries the most, even if from two opposite sides.

Penta, Bodhisattva 13:20, Mubali, Ghreg on Earth, Nystagmus (from Canada, yes) and Parus from SF are also amazing musicians in their own right. and there's another wave coming. I can't wait.
          ..it's just another party..

Well, the US is indeed starting to pick up steam... A majority of the artists are out of the SF bay area, but there are some artists from the east coast and in the South and Midwest as well... There is at least one artist for each of the substyles.

Start checking out the North American forum and you will start seeing some of the artists that are from the states... Here's a rough list of the artists here in the US and there are always more coming up...

Fractal Cowboys (Quasar & Dylalien)- SF, CA
Initialization String - Dallas, TX (unreleased)
Cyzum - Washington DC (I think)
Deeper In Zen - SF
Ghreg on Earth - SF
Pr0teus - Seattle, WA
Manifest - Portland, OR (unreleased artist)
Mental Alien - SF (part of the infidels)
Onnomon - Philadelphia, PA
BodhiSattva 13:20 (aka Celium) San Diego, CA
Random - SF
Chromatone - SF
Helios - SF
Ocelot - SF
Yohimbe - SF
Quadra - Was Los Angeles (now in Israel)
Frequency Deluxe - Los Angeles
Patchbay - San Diego (Unreleased)
The Bastard - North Carolina (Unreleased)
The Lost Baba - North Carolina (Unreleased)
Aeon - Santa Cruz, CA (unreleased)
*Christine* - Santa Cruz, CA (unreleased)
Mubali (me) - Marina, CA
Jirah - Seattle (no longer active) I really liked this guy's stuff...
Amanda - SF
Penta - SF (now in Europe)
The Nommos - SF (Goa Gil and Arianne based in SF, but travels the world)
Vibra - NY ( I think lives now in Brazil)

And as an interesting Note.. Mechanikka, CPU & Siriusissnes were all part of the same group Biodegradable out of SF... They all moved to different countries and started their solo projects... I still remember the wild parties at their warehouse... Good old (new) ccc days...

Here's a link to the forums stats of released US artists
http://forum.isratrance.com/viewusers.php?country=USA&rank=10

I know I have probably forgotten a few other artists as well (damn stonerbrain) but I think that this year is a huge year for US artists as a whole... Many more are crawling out of the woodwork and giving their on interpretation of the sound to the world...

wtf is part of the infedils?????

HAhA....the funny thing is none of the music made in frisco.....even the craziest of tracks....night trance or whateva...music....

sounds so called "Evil" to me

Yes it might be Heavy.....But im sure all of us have had some pretty heavy trips some point in our lifes....

Lot of the music made here is quite uplifting and dancy.....if your brain is not compatible to it....then maybe your better off listening to the crappy progressive shiteee thats out there....

btw..... that is not trance.....

bOm bholenath.....

I didn't really see it coming a few years ago, but US for sure have a lot of the most exciting trance music right now IMO, both when it comes to night and morning music.
Quite a few of the artists on Mubalis list is among my current favourites.
But most of them I still have to check out.

Big respect especially to Mubali, Ocelot, Ghreg, Random, Pr0teus and Penta.
They really helped me get new hope for the future of this scene by bringing back the real psychedelica.

And give us that Ghreg On Earth album already please....whats up with that?
