Not sure how to do that....are you just trying to run different areas of the frequency spectrum through different FX?

What I have that works well for me is to put an audio effect rack on a send, put an EQ8 as the first effect in the chain and high pass just above the bass, then put my effect after that. That way when I use the send (phaser, flanger, shifter etc) I don't get any bass frequencies

So you high pass above like what, 1k and that would catch most of the high percs

You're probably looking for a more clean and less ghetto approach however can't really answer that question as I am not qualified at all, I would think maybe putting a soft limiter/inflater on your master to make sure that you're at least pushing CD level volume out?            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Thanks for your answers guys.

An other question for you
For my "live set", I'd like to bounce separately (I use cubase 5) the kick/bass, and maybe percussions from the main track to be able assign them different effects in Ableton.

The thing is that I don't understand how to do this and keep the track at a mastered level.

1. Disable all effects on the master channel
2. Render the track so that the track peaks on the master channel at 0 db (or a few tenths just under) note: you may have to render a few times to adjust the master volume appropriately
3. Solo each section of audio and render all stems at the same length of time
4. Add the stems into their own separate audio track, cut out the empty parts on even bar length increments
5. Consolidate all clips
6. Highlight all audio in stem tracks at once and copy/paste into Session
7. Re-enable master channel effects, apply limiter
8. Enjoy

A simple MIDI rack using chains to funnel MIDI notes into selectable scales and keys.

Knob 1 - Scale Selector
Knob 2 - Key Selector

nice thank you for your contributions sir!

Do you use that or have you used that often? For improv jamming or for randomized midi that doesn't sound randomized? I'm sure this in tandem with a step sequencer would be cool...or...a sample+hold LFO tied to a filter could create some pretty neat stuff (Operator, I'm looking at you!)....I'll have to give it a go when I get home from the office            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

I'm not sure I uploaded it right, so if you don't see a MIDI rack with multiple chains of the Scale plugin, let me know.

I put this on a MIDI track and route the host channels for my instruments to receive input from that track. The MIDI track gets "Monitor - IN". When I want to make loops on a synth, I'll arm that synth track. The note input on my keyboard goes through the MIDI track into whichever synth host track I have armed, and the MIDI loops I record are all in the key and scale I define with the macro knobs in the rack I uploaded.

In itself this rack doesn't to any randomization of MIDI, it simply shunts out-of-scale-and-key notes into in-scale-and-key notes... that's the only processing it really does. (And takes <1% CPU )

There's plenty of room in the rack for extra MIDI effects (like Random, Arpeggiator, etc.) with 6 empty macro knobs you can assign to whatever you want.

I'm personally a fan of phrygian, diminished, gypsy, and spanish scales.

I like the "black" notes a lot.

So the Scale plugins had all of the appropriate scales? I was worries that each chain's presets didn't upload.

uhh I just kind of chucked the rack onto a couple of synths with pre-written MIDI data, set it to my root note (D) then flicked the scale knob around until I found one that I liked.

I am not sure if everything is working properly, as my ears are severely untrained, but there was a noticeable difference when I did twiddle the scale knob

thinking about combining your idea with the Covert Operators scale/chord pack

For a really interesting bass effect, create a send/return track and put an autofilter or your favorite bandpass filter in it, and send your bass to it 100%

Now as your bass is paying slide the filter around in real time and record the automation of your filter parameters, and then once you're happy with it record it into a new audio track.

HP @ ~150 or higher so that your slidey-stretchy filter sound doesn't muddy up your bass, and then process that resulting audio as you see fit. Very cool effect, adds a lot of top end character to your bass

yap, apc40 rules.

watching that video, reminded me that is also possible to use the audio-effects rack as a SEND.
I will try more complex chains on sends, and not just simple delays and reverbs.
easy way to control dry/wet levels.

ableton has endless possibilities.. the more we dig, the more we find. great
