A Step Beyond is the new compilation from ZMA, and what a release it is.

Tracklist:

1. Shaman - Fill n’ thrills
2. Trioptimum - Tiefsee
3. Sun Control Species - Faith in chaos
4. Tegma - El Cabron de tulum
5. Mantik - Bazar Bizzare
6. Sun Control Species - One size fits all
7. Sensient - Off world
8. Mockie - All moments
9. Neogen - Misty mights of whisper

It starts out with a track from the well known Swedish act Shaman. Great to start of the album with a typical progressive track from him. One of my favs on this compilation.

Next up is the German newcomer Trioptium with a dark progressive stomper. Definatly a track that will work well on the trancefloor, and I can't wait to hear more stuff from Trioptium in the future.

Track 3 is the first track here from the Australian newcomer Sun Control Species. Also a quite dark progressive track, that gets more and more uplifting towards the end.

Track 4 is a typical well produced progressive track by Tegma. A pretty good track (as always), but I've heard better from these guys.

Track 5 is my least favorite track on this compilation. A dark chaotic progressive track - but unfortunatly way to chaotic for my taste.

Sun Control Species' 2nd track on the compilation is next, and once again it's high quality progressive. Very impressive by Sun Control Species to get 2 tracks of such high quality on their first release (that I know of).

Track 7 is Sentient, who provide us with a bit more psychedelic track than the rest of the tracks on this compilation, but still with the same high quality.

Next up is Mockie, who bring us a track with a very nice ending. Overall I find the track a bit too boring though, but it's still nice work.

Last track on the compilation is by the russian act Neogen. A very well built track, which builds up perfectly for a mindblowing climax at 6:10.

In my opinion this is the best compilation so far this year, with track #1 and track #9 as the highlights. It's great to see that there's some new acts out there who have great potential - and that there's labels who wan't to release their work.

Verdict: 9/10.           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

this 1 is truly a candy... great release.
every track just hit`s the target.

i dont know why, but every time i listen to this 1, i get a beautiful picture of an amazing outdoor party

this compilation just brings few newcomers stright to the front leading line of progressive top producers (sun control, mantik, sensient, Trioptimum...)

Me love this disc - and I've told Hercules.
Faves are the Tegma track, both SCS' tracks, and I was quite impressed by Trioptimum (you all know me as a morning guy - but these dudes just put an amazing goove to their darkish powers, it kinda connects).
kept it up Herc and ZMA.

I believe this is the first compilation ZMA release that is not harsh technoish, and what a great compilation.
Very refreshing. Minimalistic music most of the times, very psychedelic (thanks to sensient).
Shaman give sus some groovy tunes.
Sun Control Species is a new name for me, and yet a very pleasant suprise.
Sensient's track is certainly my favorite. Very very psychedelic. This guy has it sown style.
The c.d ends with a Neongen that mix jazz, which is a nice closure.

Just bought the c.d and I"m really happy to have made an excellent purchase.           Majority is never right!

A new compilation from ZMA of psyprogressive tunes with feel, psychedelia, subtle melodies and after the sunrise overall atmosphere. Shaman gives us again a perfect opener with Fill n' Thrills, a mellow relaxed yet moving piece full of psychedelic and emotional sounds. I dub Shaman as the official perfect opener of good morning sets! Trioptimum continue, nice one, but I don't like the production and overall sound. Sun Control Species with a great Faith in Chaos (T3)- excellent moving psyprogressive tune for the morning moments. Tegma follow with percussion mayhem, great hypnotic tune that continues the feel in more intense and melodic direction. The Mantik track I really don't like, much to develop here. The second Sun Control Species tracks here is just as good as the first- two excellent tracks by Andrew Davidson here, which leaves me eager to listen to his upcoming album expected through ZMA. One Size Fits All (T6) is just a deep morning tune surrounding you with psychedelic atmosphere and a capturing rhythm that'll send you galloping around the dancefloor. Sensient is a promising upcoming talent from Oz that already captured my ear before, Off World (T7) is another grabbing psychedelic morning tune with an irresistible groove and an overall mysterious yet happy feel to it, opening in the end with a nice floating melody. Beautiful. Mockie takes it down a bit with the percussive tribal All Moments, nice hypnotic moving piece. Neogen takes the surprise of the CD spot with a beautiful open airy track that really touches me. Nothing life his previous release and here's definitely an artist to watch in the future.

Bottom line: A fine piece of plastic with beautiful musical morning moments and a strong together feel to it. Favorites: 1, 3(!), 4, 6(!), 7, 8.

After listening to it more times I wanna say that this is probably ZMA's best compilation for me- I like it lots. It has spirit, music, psychedelia and feel. It's good psytrance, not something very common these days...           ---------------------------------------------
