Hey Bobo... If I were a copy artist, I'd copy you guys for sure!!!
I completely understand where you are coming from though... When I write music, I sometime reject certain sounds, because it sounds like someone else.... One factor that I find interesting is how the crew of artists in the area where you live sound pretty different to each other, even though you guys tend to hang out a lot. I think as an artist, it is difficult to find your indivdual style at first. It takes time and practice to carve your own niche into your music and still have it accepted by the dancers. A lot of people just find it easier to go with what is already widely accepted as good sounds and they forget to add their personal interpretation into the song. So you end up with someone trying to make music like their favorite artists... If one expects the music to progress, you have to leave the tried and true methodology at home just go and put your heart and soul into the song. If people don't understand what you are trying to say, that's ok. Just don't compromise your own style just to make people understand your music better....
