a nagging question...

there's a question I've been asking myself for a while now
What is the issue - Trance music or Trance parties? some see the party as the center of psy-trance, and some are in it for the music, and these 2 don't always mix - usualy at the line of experimental/underground sounds.

one is as good as the other, but can there be trance music without all the fuss of trance parties (like in some other scenes/musical areas)?

This is not criticizm, but an open quiestion for debate, so I really don't wanna see people trying to kill this thread just because they think the issue has been covered.

I think you can't separate these things.
They will not survive without each other...

party - a place to fullfill you'r love for music, people, dance etc...

Trance Music - a musical identity first music for parties second.

These 2 concepts can be mixed and could be viewed as a single attached identity - I believe its not completly correct.
Trance just like other sorts of music is first of all music (classical,rock,jazz,blues.........and I'm not going to get into this philosophical question),
party,concerts... - are places to enjoy music meet new people with similar interests and desires etc...

well, i wouldnt go to a blues party.. but than again, i listen to both blues and trance at home. i see trance parties as a detachable object from the music. it doesnt have to co-exist as a matter of a fact. on the other hand, i havnt been to goa or the old nature parties back in the woods, but IMHO, today, trance music and trance parties don't exactly go hand in hand as they used to...

Well these are 2 different things but most people can't separate between the 2 and I can understand why.
If you like some music trend, you'd also want to meet people with the same taste, and similar way of thinking (for e.g those who listen to trance music have a very different way of thinking than those listening to pop music). This is why it's difficult to make a disctinction between the 2. Auspexx, you've had your share of parties, and now you find that you'd risen one level up and you can enjoy this music without all that scene. I think most people get to this level at one point or another of their lives.

It is not so obvious, it is more likely the question of chicken and the egg. I would not like to investigate the sources of that issue, but I think we need to start it from the Hippi Festivals in "Flowers" period

Hallo Auspex,

It starts quite connected indeed, but IMO it goes on and the connections dissolve and well, it became my car music he he When u r home and doing trance for a long time u move forward to different things that blend electronice with psyche -

Chemical Brothers for example

And u just evolve musically.

From time to time there is a party. but that is it ;-) Vibes are different and the ppl in front the speakers ( the ones that keepin' an eye on the BUKSOT not to disintegrate ;-) ) are different and so trance music moves home and disconnects from the party

Well, we all are big trance listeners and fans.
We breath this music and we eat it for breakfast.
Still in order for the whole scene to keep going parties must and shell go on. It actually performs
our unity and the our urge for sharing, digging...
and all other stuff we think of.

In conclusion these two cannot be detached one of the other, nevertheless- Why should it?

ok, and now for the next one:
could there be any parties in which people do not come to get smashed/kicked/bombed away, but rather to enjoy good and interesting music? I'm asking that because as a DJ I feel that many people don't really care to challenged with new, experimental sounds, but rather get what they already know and expect, which is quite the same in every party.
The closest thing to that (for me @least) was the Dinamo-Dvash, where people came knowing there wouldn't be a 'true' trance party, but more of a hang-out place to hear progressive artists, and the ability to play almost whatever u always wanted to play but never had the chance to...

is there a point to try this sort of thing in Israel, or is it just a waste of time? (most of the time I play I think along the lines of "don't challenge them, just give them what they want to hear". it works, but its fucking boring.)

I point my question mainly to Israeli ppl, but I'd appreciate the views of all the ppl here.

cheers

i think it's a great idea, but not as a d.j coming to play in a regular party, but in a party with that purpose. The people should know they are not going to get a normal trance music party, but different set. And i think the israelis are mature enough to handle different styles, different ideas etc...
just not in their running away from reality after
tough times dleka party...

Well Tal, At the end of the day, what counts is the music. music is what made ppl go to raves and such in the first place, so it'll continue to do so. as for the DJ's own personal taste, well, that's somthing to be reckoned with, but the performer has to provide his goods, or he won't be reinvited. On a more Personal note, i went to listen to R.E.L's Set in the camelot a couple of months ago. the place was abandoned. empty as heck. but the music and the mixing was fucking good. now, i heard you play a couple of times, and i do belive that apart from a few tracks, u pretty much play what you like, and the crowd seems to dig that as well. the fact that some ppl will allways come to the DJ asking for fullon karahana, is inevidable. there'll allways be someone like that in every party. i remember in the tchelet, On your promotional set, that apart from that blonde guy, no 1 approached your deck and asked for karahana. ppl just danced. and they liked it.

as for a hang out place for good music - i can live with that. take the camelot for example. a great place, cozy, chillin and cool. get the right music there on the trance nights, and i foresee a great success and DJ's getting a chance playing what they REALLY like. :-)

I can easily remove "party" out of the equation!

Ok, but then it will b just music,
Explanation:
I hear a lot of music: jazz, blues, etc and etc - every music makes me feel different, every sound makes me move different.
I started to listen to the music after a couple of parties…
In trance, the feeling comes (individually off course) best in a party.
if u move one aspect of the equation the feeling stops...

When u listen to trance at home, its not the same feeling, its not even the same ball park…
And to tell u the truth, I actually avoid hearing trance at home, cuz every thing u do a lot, even a thing u love to do, u get bored off… and I'm not planing to change music styles any time soon.
That's why the equation is my answer to tal's question…

i personaly love going to a party and hearing new tracks that surprise me it`s great when in the middle of your digging comes an unexpected break which u didn`t c coming a mile away...... or a great sound or melody, anything which is new to my ears and which i like is good. ofcourse hearing favorite tracks which i know all the breaks and sounds and every milisecond in, is great and fun. but as much as like hearing new stuff it has to b suitable for a party .... some tracks r great at home or while driving or while bunji jumping or sky-diving and some r great for parties... for example sandman`s witchcraft album is one that i can listen to 247 but most of it i wouldn`t play at a party even the hardest tracks r low in bpm and take long to build up but they r great and they r defintly trance.
so i think trance and parties r not neccesarly connected to each other. but there r tracks who do make u dig and those r neccesarly connected to parties.

p.s
btw i found the pefect job. an archeologist get to dig all the time and gets payed 4 it. pefect isn`t it?
