I would really like to know what was the first CD ever released? What label is it on?
I have been thinking recently about how people got their music, was it stricly through parties?
I realized that I have no idea whatsoever how people were hearing about new stuff.
We can basically find information about any random CD made anywhere, whenever we want, and still its pretty hard to keep track.           Both teams played hard

www.psynews.org
Just go to the their search engine and choose as the year 94 or 93 and you'll see what was released in these years.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

yes quite...
i was interested to see the dragonfly comp, if i'd had to guess i would have guessed that. however, i think there is a question of definition here, there was 'trancy stuff' coming out on harthouse and eyeq before the eg '93 releases you see on pysnews... viz

Albums
Eat Static Abduction - Ultimate
Juno Reactor Transmissions - Mute

Compils
Project 2 Trance Dragonfly

also, is psynews totally comprehensive?

i think at the end of the day, it is not often that a genre or style of music just springs fully formed into being with just one album / compilation release. and most of the time it just segues gently out of other styles and forms, it then becomes a matter of perspective to define any actual 'start'... on the other hand i think it is perhaps fair to ask when a cd with all the essential elements of what later became termed goa was released, though i am not qualified to answer this question...           >>love will tear us apart...<<

Well there's this Hardflloor Classic Track, "Acperience Experience" which was released in 92' i think, and some early Sven Vath material can be also called "Goa Predecessors"           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

but ninja, you are already starting to claim things for trance which others have already claimed for techno music... i have acperience on a cd that bills itself as a potted history of techno / acid house.
so as i said its a matter of ones perspective as to what you see a track to be indicative of.

btw viz the use of a 303 i am reliably informed (by the liner notes of the same compilation no less) that "if any one person could be said to have invented acid house, it was probably chicago's dj pierre. as early as '86, his dedicated arsing-around with roland's home bassline machine the tb303 producced the squelch and burble that became the music's trademark. 'Acid Trax' [from '87] is generally accepted as the first of the genre, with al the elements already in place - raw, arid tones set in increasingly distorted loops, building a hallucinogenic mood of dislocation" .. sounds good eh! might have to listen to it again in a minute... oh these notes were written by one richard norris of pioneering uk acid house / rave band the grid - swamp thing anyone...           >>love will tear us apart...<<

frankly you should be ashamed to know that detox

and mike, i think you have to accept that there is a significant overlap between acid and trance, though whether one is a subset of the other is debateable...

The first Trance artist album is considered to Be Juno Reactor - Transmissions (Mute records)
In Israel, the First artist album was Indoor - Progressive Trance (NMC) in 1995.

But alltogether it's a tricky Q.           Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.

I remember I bought the Indoor tape - when it came out (I still hadn't a cd player then)

hmm - this is all very strange - the very first artist release in israel? are you sure?
Couse if it's true - I'm fucking happy I bought it then! hehe

Whatever they called Trance Mix 1 and 2 - wasn't really trance imho - but from trance mix 3 and on, there were good trancy vibes

so if the first CD was released in 93, then what was going on before? I remember Shahar saying in an interview that he was at a trance party in 1990, so what were they playing if there were no CD's?
And what about all the Israelis and Europeans in Goa in 89-92?           Both teams played hard
