Hi all,

Since the last year or two i have delved deeper and deeper into the ambient scene. I get more and more chilled releases in contrast to the 'Cd of the week'. Now dont get me wrong, im a big full-on/Dark lover eg. Cosmosis, Wizzy Noise, optokkopler, hujaboy, Penta etc...

i also have a nice collection of old skool which i daily get a piece off like Hallucinogen and MFG. But its just that i have started to filter my music.
I find im attracted to more and more chilled releases.
Is this just an evolution of my tastes? Or is it that the quality is higher in these cd's??

Do a lot of you go through this phase (if it is a 'phase')??

So if u've been in this type of situation, i would just like to know your viewpoint.
If you've not , than feel free to share your opinion anyways.

thanx.           ~*** You can tell By the way i use my walk, Im a woman's man, No time to Talk***~

Even though i prefer my psytrance to have a dark twist i still love and enjoy ambient and chill out. I also love tracks that have some ethno element in them.

It's not a phase. Your brain filters out what it enjoys the most and i see that as a good thing.

i know wat you mean....
n i totally agree, if you listen to ambient n downtempo you ll end up listenin to more n more of it, has happened to me n most of my friends. i guess its the vibe that you get form this kind a music, blissful n groovy it has created a vivid sound universe with a major spiritual feel.
and if this a phase...then you re a lil tired of full on/dark...n some atmospherica would be more than a welcome change, n i hope you get stuck in this phase like i did.

....not that im gettin a rift between the genres, but mentally, i guess id get a lot more form ambi-chill than from psy trance n its monotany

but its nice to know there more like me here

Nothing is said that has not been said before.

I can only speak for my own music taste, and a few years ago I did happen to realize that my taste weren't limited to just a few styles but it featured a wide spectrum of music. I listen to everything from Japanese rock to Jimi Hendrix to Hallucinogen to Slayer to... well I guess I could continue almost an eternity writing different styles I have bought stuff of...

You ask if this might be a phase, and I say it could be. My listening goes through a lot of phases here, and I don't really know what my music choice for each moment depends on. Sometimes I have periods where I don't listen to electronic music at all, sometimes I'm totally stuck into just one style but the major part of my time I'm listening to different stuff everyday...

If I were you I wouldn't think so much about it, just go with the flow with whatever feels best and don't mind what style you are listening to or are interested in for the moment - as long as you like it that's enough.

[offtopic]My recomendation for today is the album 'Black Nails And Bloody Wrists' by the superb danish metalhardcore group As We Fight! http://www.aswefight.com [/offtopic]

It happened to me couple of moths ago when I thought that i gona listen only to progressive, and than I realize that its only a phase. I listen alot to ambient, chill, dub... shulman ,Cell ,Ott, kukan dub lagan, shpongle. Good vibes to relax; to create different atmosphere. We all going trough levels in our life...full on...tech...progg...chill. It's all good.

I listen to lots of music. For example: I listen to ambient when I wanna relax or when I´m doing homework. I listen to metal (black, doom, death) a lot when I´m going to school or just when I feel agressive/depressive. Psytrance/progressive is music I can play all the time, since it´s my fave music. Also, I´m one of those people that plays music to enhance certain moods. This is the opposite of people that play happy music when they´re down for example.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. When you are interested in music, it is only natural to explore more and more types of music over time. If you want to call it "evolution" thats your choice However, I think it sounds a bit pretentious... Saying that you have a more evolved musical sense is elitist.. as in "better than others".
I call it, broader & more diverse taste

About quality of the releases. I myself think that chill out releases are superior in quality and do not have the tendency to become outdated like trance. They are more like classical music to me, i.e. timeless. This is a personal thing though, others will disagree, so it comes down to my own taste and perception.

I dont think that music you like suddenly turns bad just because you discover new sounds... Im usually pretty caught up in any new sound/genre i begin to like - but after time, it levels out and I appreciate the new sounds as much as the old..

Hope that made sence

Best Wishes

with the serious lack of psy parties in Lebanon, i can only move towards more progressive sounds and less full on psytrance. and i ve realized that when u dont get too exposed to the scene (in my case) , you seek a slower beat...

You hit the nail right on the head there. I find ONE decent track pr standard psytrance CD release these days. If its a really good release, I might find more - and in shitty releases I find none.

So, you have to look and look - and also, as a DJ you will have to buy stuff where you dont like 90% of the music.

In chillout, I find 90% good music instead.

Best Wishes

Now go on and when you all start to REALLY enjoy and buy chill, that will change as well. Compilations and cd's will be flying all over the place and pretty soon it's the same scene as psytrance is now. That's how undergrounds die.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

yeah, i know what u r talking about , but i think the reason to that is an excessive listenning to psy-trance, which creates the need to explore new firelds of electronic music (as Krell said).
btw, same thing happens to artists, but sometimes when they change direction and start exploring new fields- they get criticized for changing their style.
