No... it would be quite a waste when ur only producing music.
Apparently it's in a SQL server deployed by Last.fm.

Ignore the above message lol sorry frisbee brothers work .
I feel it's worth mentioning that ableton 64 bit provides greater memory holds up to 16 where as 32bit is 4Gb ram...Your system is 64 then you mayaswel go all the way I say

I'm curious! How much ram is the most that your system have ever run?
I think you are completly fine for a long time...

OS X 10.10.3 used ~4 GB only running this one browser here
On Windows 8.1 things are much more relaxed.
I bought 32 GB (first i wanted 64) since I was using this Computer here mainly with OS X.
The first thing I ever run out on OS X, tend to be RAM. Especially when working with multiple Applications. (Design and Dev stuff mainly)
I recently use more Windows again, since OS X just was less reliable than Windows (Studio One, yes even on my MBP, in 10.0.3, they seam to fixed those crashes) and it was hard to communicate to Software vendors while posting bug reports:
eg
RME: "Which Mac do you have?"
ME: "I have a Custom build Mac"
RME: "Fuck off" hah, in reality they said: "We only support real Mac's"

I have nothing to add to this thread, I just wanted to brag about our new studio computer.
20 Core / 40 Threads with 32GB Ram (expandable to 1TB)
Finally we can run as many instances of.. well, anything!
We were running 16GB RAM previously on a super upgraded i7 MAC Mini with an SSD but even then we were running a lot of Kontakt libraries like Vir2/electri6ity and they would take 2 minutes each to load and EAT memory for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some are 6GB sample libraries each. along with a few large Trillion and Omnisphere patches and I would max out.
We're pretty confident we can chug along quite happily now without stutters! Although, we will no doubt look back on this post in a couple of years and laugh. tech moves at such a rapid rate.. at least we are expandable.
Bottom line. Get what you can afford for computer and spend the rest on sound treatment. Our new studio rooms have just been finished and we used over 100 packs of RWA45 Rockwool insulation in the walls, ceiling cloud absorber and basstraps.
My partner says he can no longer work in the room he's had for 10 years because of the clarity we now have from proper absorption. Whatever speakers you have - they're pointless without being able to hear them in the room.
This is our *almost finished* set up. Custom desk still needs to go i, lights, finishing touches etc. But you can see the subs are mounted in the walls into 5ft triangles of insulation that is in every corner and it floats above the ceiling too.
Another pre-material coating view.

Unfortunately, those pictures really don't do the studio any justice. It honestly looks far nicer and much more cosy than it looks.
We have over $2000 of RGB LED lights with a remote control and android app to change the colours. These lights are mounted behind the rockwool sound clouds in 3 production rooms, the false ceiling in the corridors and finally in the frame of the tilted glass between the mix room and the live room.
The construction is ongoing so it still looks a little unfinished, but I'm hoping you can get an idea of how nice it really will look.
The clouds and some other rockwool still needs a material finish.
The custom made desk hasn't arrived yet so we are working off a shitty folding surface!
The camera made thet black material look nasty! But it is actually covered in tiny reflective dots so as you walk around and it catches the light and produces incredible rainbow patterns. It really is much more interesting than these still pictures indicate.
@ansolas They aren't exactly wall mounted, They are subs built inside giant frames filled with Rockwool. They slide into the square holes.
The subs are JL Fathom 12's and the main speakers are K&H0300.. although I may swap to the new Neumann version's.
All the speakers run through a Benchmark DAC fed by a UAD Aollo Quad. We still need a real crossover and also am A/B/C Switchboard for the mono test speaker (We were going to just use the Auratones that everyone has, but I decided to do something a bit different and use some pretty decent car stereo parts! The Diamond Audio Hex silk speakers with the crossover and tweeters removed and built into custom boxes)
Our computer is an XI MACHINES X3 Ultra
@Sonica. Lol.. my logo is my head leaning forward and it's flaming from when I uses to do my hair all spiky about 15 years ago.
I've been lurking, I stopped making as much Psytrance and have been working more with recording bands, other styles and opening my own place with a couple of other musicians.
Miami blue/pink LED mode through the live room window to main mix room!

Fun stuff, I had till recently 1ghz with 1GB RAM and in some weird way it was kinda more fun and interesting, now looking to buy some old Mac G5 or whatever from last decade for same cause, just to get full on with Logic 8 and whatever is left for PPC

well, I had one of those. It was the best ever made, called the Imac G5 (isight) - the later model with their web cam, running a double core Power PC G5 set at 2.1Ghz, 2,5GB of ram.
Overall, it felt very stable and performance wise it was really good. But to be honest, all those models before they adopted aluminium were prone to over heat - and that's what happened to mine. Don't think it's a good computer for music production due to that factor.
You can get fairly decent second hand mac pros, just take a look 'cause it's from 3.1 mac pro version that you get the 64 bit EFI - which is needed for installing the latest versions of mac OS.
Overall, Yosemite isn't to bad these days with the most recent updates. But I think Snow Leopard felt the most stable and faster, even though you can't get some plug-ins to work with it now - 'cause they demand a more recent version. Mavericks is probably, all things considered, the best way to go.
And a Mac Pro also, 'cause it's got a very good case, superb fans, you can always jump into some UAD cards (even second hand, works the same) and a couple of other stuff. It's more reliable, expandable and suited for music production. Just my 2 cents. Cheers |

Yeah, but everything starts like that and instead of spending like 100 euros on G5, I end up chasing something I already have (decent i5 quad core machine), can't justify anything else, because I already have machine that can put many older Mac Pro's behind in many ways, but fun is working on something like G5 or some crappy PC and making something out of it, at least to me.
