i have to say that i LOVE the psy-trance community in LA.

I sent a text message to my phone and somebody replied and they are mailing my phone home to me.

many, many thanks to this kind person. oddly enough, they found it on the dancefloor, i didn't think i was going that mental but i guess i was.

psyclops, dai and penta had me sweatin my ass off. i forgot to mention that in my last post. parus was okay, i didn't think their music had enough energy compared to the rest of the artists. it was kind of minimal but still very well produced with twisted sounds. it's a pleasure to hear new artists though.

thanks again psytribe, lookin forward to another anniversary this summer. 9 years almost?           We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

hmmmm, ok a review of my LA party experience...
We'll start with the good stuff:
- The Ranch. Wow, you guys are soooo unbelievably lucky to have a piece of land as beautiful as this to play on. The trees, the mountains, the creeks, everything... its just amazing! and the bathrooms were the cutest and most precious things ever the way they were decorated! very thoughtful and pleasant.
- Parus. I agree Parus has a different energy than other artists, its not so overt - more internal. But their music is very beautiful and i had fun dancing to it
- Penta!!! yayayayyay! Proving once again why he is one of my all time favorite artists. I loved dancing to my old favorites and to the new tracks!! LOVE the new stuff the energy Penta puts out when he plays is over the top! THANK YOU!
- The alien head altar thing in the front was waaaaaaaay cool and unexpected! awesome!
- The sound, was crisp and clean (except during the few awkward moments when it went off due to people leaning on the speakers!!)
- hanging out with my LA family and meeting some nice people. Ya'll know who you are
The BAD!!
- well, my whole experience was shaped by the vibe and the crowd, which was extremely annoying for the most part. I could barely move, let alone dance, without REALLY fucked up guys either groping me or hitting on me. At first I was really pissed off, after it happened over and over and over again i just had to laugh. I think i saw some of the most fucked up people i've ever seen in my life.
- The music in the morning was so cheesy! Etnica and Pleadians were ok, not really my style but still psytrance... the guy who played afterwards was playing total rave music. my friend goes to candy raves and said she had heard a lot of those tracks played there before... i mean cmon this is supposed to be PSYCHEDELIC trance... i found nothing about this music psychedelic... i left by noon so not sure what happened after that...
Overall, i have to say that if that is what all trance parties were like, i would not go to them. I guess people go to parties for different reasons. Most of all I like to dance and trip out. The environment there was not really good for either of those things. I prefer a more friendly, respectful and safe "psychedelic" space.
Thanks to everyone who helped make my LA trip fun! i love you guys!
cya on the dancefloor!
peace

Nice one Psytribe, thanx.

Shortly after I arrived, I chilled with some of Psyclops progressive tech-trance, and then went to play my chill set.....I had a few dancers/chillers in and out but I think after Manny's set they shut the room down due to lack of interest. So then after a bowl break I proceeded back to the main stage to catch Parus.

Even though I liked Parus genre of music, it was a bit too minimal and and harsh sounding for me, I think they need to master their stuff better. Penta was really really great, very trancy and psychedelic, though a bit more minimal and less groovy then I expected, which is not necessarily a bad thing, I just didnt expect him to bust out the full fast hard style......very good job Nikita;)he even played at different tempos depending on the track, with some new and old.....I think he really got the crowd going. After he was done.....I pretty much made it a point not to pay close attention to the music. I just danced when I felt like dancing, and payed more attention to the people. Sorry, but Megan is right....most of the music played at these parties is not psytrance, that's just the preference, its been like that for years. After sleeping I danced to Barakuda's set, which was like hard fun minimal tech-trance. At 4pm there were still hundreds of people at the event.....very impressive.

There was a couple times during Etnica's set (and I think Penta's as well) that a couple and some others would not stop leaning on the speakers.....which of course pissed Brad off enough to shut the sound down and yell warnings and commands. People...just do as the man says....stay off the damn speakers!!
And guys.....keep your hands off of the T and A...learn some manners. Next guy who touches my wife inappropriately I'm gonna take em to the juice bar and stick his hand in the blender. Other than that....I think this party went very smooth without major trouble. And hey,...no authorities....cant beat that.

The vibe is different from an all psychedelic party....its to be expected....but at least we have it.

Keep going Psytribe.....yia Zo.

First off, Thanks Psytribe for bringing the SF sounds down to L.A.
The morning music was unforgivably bad! To hear that, after Penta was a rude shock.
However, Konflux and Andy saved my party, V.- thanks for the Boldly Audio Track and Andy for the very last one.

Unfortunately, two days before making the drive out with friends in tow, I came down with a cold of some kind or other. Nevertheless, this trance trooper persevered and managed to have a great time, despite mother nature's attempts to sabotage my weekend. I danced my ass off for a couple hours, and then slept through the bulk of the evening. Woke up just after sunrise and felt in such a funk I didn't even attempt the trek to the dance floor. However, you could hear the sounds emanating from the dance floor all through the valley, so no biggie. The music was okay. Not great, not bad. Actually, the comment came up during the night that the music was all so technically good that it was starting to sound similar, and therefore, bad. Nonetheless, within a few hours I was back on the dance floor, which by then was packed to overflowing. Great to see so many people, but not all that pleasant when you want to dance and can barely shuffle your feet.

I really wish I hadn't been feeling so under the weather, because there were so many people at this party and I just didn't feel like meeting (and possibly infecting) anyone. It was a nice change to have at least 1/3 overheard conversations be in a foreign language. Thanks to everyone who came out to this one, and big thanks to Psytribe for putting it on. As always, it was worth the 6 hour drive. Hope to see you again Memorial Day.          "Every generation needs a new revolution." ~Thomas Jefferson

It was quite nice seeing my favorite people at one of my favorite places to be...

I've heard Penta before at BMan '05 ... and his music was outstanding, but his technical skills were unimpressive. Great artist, bad DJ... He certainly changed my attitude towards him Satruday night. Parus' music was too minimal for my liking - I kept finding myself humming along to "fill in the blanks". The head bobbing was still an interesting sight...

Dai - dude ... I never have a problem with what he plays, always leaves the decks with me smiling...

I was rather unimpressed with Edoardo/Maurizio's playing.... I mostly tapped my foot. It never got me moving. I feel what Meghan is saying about "cheesy". I bet the candykids that showed up LOVED it...

As far as Deco... it was nice to have the "fence" and "tunnel" thing around the dancloor/DJ booth... but in the end especially after sunrise, it felt kinda claustrophobic seeing as more and more people show up to Ranch parties...

@Meghan - dont judge the events we have down here by just one of them... go to a few before passing judgment - ToBeHonest, this was one of my least favorites. And I've only missed on the last year and a half.

@Bodhi - no blender for my hand - its not my fault if she comes up behind me to give me a hug while I'm dancing.

oh, the stars coming out @ about 3am was FANTASTIC...

Another Herculean effort from the Psytribe folks - I'm always impressed with the work that you do and the energy you guys consistently put forth to bring top-notch acts and do things proper.

I arrived late and took a quick nap - My cellphone (and alarmclock) died so I slept through Parus, Penta and some of Pleidaians - bummer. I hadn't heard any Russian stuff in a while, I was looking forward to it...

Maurizio's set seemed pretty cool, but I only really started to regain conciousness towards the end, so I can't say too much.

Edoardo's technique was pretty flawless, some of the tracks were a little too "groovy" for me, but it was a morning set after all, so I'd expected about as much.

Spyros kicked things up - several notches. I was really impressed, track after hard driving track with really psychedelic-driven melodic structure, and I think only recognized one or two tunes. Exactly what I wanted to hear at the time, by far my favorite set of the party.

Konflux got even crazier - dang dude! By that point I was pretty much exhausted and headed out so I only caught the start of Barakuda's set - but when I left there was still a grip of people on the dancefloor... in the late afternoon! Impressive.

As far as the unfortunate aspects - in the San Fran scene we have our fair share of drunken asshole female-gropers, but these guys are usually scene outsiders that randomly show up to club partiess not caring about the music. Outdoor parties are usually the welcome escape from that vibe, so its a little surprising to scene that same stuff at the Ranch.

In an act of unbridled optimism, I'm going to go ahead and blame all the girl-groping, rave-whistle blowing, and pissing on speaker cabinets (WHAT in the FUCK?!) not on the character of these individuals, but on the continued widespread practice of huffing cans of fucking Dust-Off. Holy shit, you guys, really - there are far better, non-toxic drugs available for human consumption.

However, it seems to me that the a lot of the dudes with the "undesirable behavior" are part of the same group of dancers that are front and center, hands in the air, enthusiastically dancing up a storm and seriously getting down for the entire party - bringing a lot of energy to the dancefloor. This says loud and clear that these guys are not scene outsiders just there to get fucked up and hit on girls - it seems if some of these dudes could just mature a little and appreciate just how lucky they are to have such awesome parties and locations, the LA scene would be a fucking unstoppable, world-class scene.

I'd like to reiterate that the rave-whistle thing is fucking heinous and really annoying. Dude, for reals, please stop immediately.

ANYWAY, The fact that, despite these irritations, I am still happy to do a 6 hour drive (12 hour round trip!) whenever there is a Psytribe party just goes to show how much you guys rock - it was a pleasure to finally meet Dai and Konflux, and Spyros is quickly becoming one of my favorite people in the whole damn scene. I have yet to properly hear Barakuda, which is a crime, but by the time he plays I have usually been reduced to a worthless quivering pile of jelly since these Psytribe parties rock so fucking hard. Keep it up you guys - good work!

Not to offend anyone, but Aeon ... you might be able to tell the Dust-Off huffing girl-gropers how you feel - if you spoke Portugese...

Well, the one thing this thread has taught me it is that for every party there are a million different opinions about the music, vibe, crowd, etc. Some loved Etnica, some hated it. Some loved Penta, some thought the crazy russian was trying to kill them. All y'all that complain about this DJ or that DJ need to get a grip. IMHO, parties are not meant to give you twelve hours of the same genre. Open your puny little mind to other tastes why dontcha (and don't rush to label it as "cheesy").
All I can say is, there were about 800 people there, and that is un-be-fucking-lievable for an underground psytrance party in LA. I saw all my favorite faces, and met some new people as well.
One more thing. Psytribe always provides different types of music, but to say that any DJ at a Psytribe party is not playing psytrance is really fucking absurd. It might not be your cup of tea, but I assure you, it is still Psytrance. Just liking one kind of psytrance is really narrow minded in my opinion.
Oh, yeah. Regarding our exuberant portugese speaking friends. They may act like ravers, and get a little too physical with the girls, but if you look at their faces while they are dancing - they totally get it and therefore I will not say anything bad about them. Like Karo said in another thread, all we can do is show them how to behave by example. If we keep spreading good vibes, they will catch on.

spyros and andy i know you guys say that you can't do it alone but you guys work really hard to make these events happen so thanks. we all go where we feel comfortable and welcome and not every party will afford that to everyone. some people just don't go back and others like to spread the word. either way you can never really know until you experience it yourself because everyone's experience is unique because everyone's perspective is unique. two different "candy ravers" came up to me and jason and said that they were amazed and couldn't believe what they were seeing. they were genuinely touched by the experience and couldn't believe they had been missing out on this type of music and this environment. this is worth all the whistles and outrageous "portuguese speakers". those types of encounters make me remember that it's not always about my experience. some parties are not memorable but hopefully for at least one person in attendance it will be amazing and life changing. so for all who weren't too impressed..maybe next time. it just wasn't your night.           Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity...

Party priduction was great, all the deco came alive at the night, as for the music, i leave it to personal preference, thanks guys for the nice words to my set!!, and glad to see almost all familier faces from the scene and I could meet some of the coolest people; however,in my honest opinion, the party was killed for some reason. Andy, Spyros and other psytribe crews devoted tremendous physical efforts, any possible available time, and money under the pressure to provide great environment where people can enjoy the party safely and comfortably, but what I get from the dance floor was quite disappointing and disgusting. I saw a paticular group of individuals were behaving very disrespectfully. Its just too sad and extremely annoying to see all those people without sense. I do not want to see all those brain function failer steroid meats who pee on behind Brad's system, kept tuckling people on the dance floor, pushed the sounds system then cut off the sound...no more these animal in our scene. thats it. It has been like this past few month, but this time I got the worst feeling, scared by the animals. They are polluting our passion. I could not even stand few mins in the floor. The ranch is last paradise for the LA scene. we have to protect our little precious scene before it gets uncontrolable. Hopefully all those animals has capability to learn by example. What can we do? Having 21+ would be helpful?
