Your label.. Who would you sign?

Yes it's in a way yet another pointless "fav killargh" thread.
Anyways "Travellers in Divine Records" would be an ambient label with the following acts:
Shpongle
Shulman
Violet Vision
Koneveljet
Entheogenic
Kaya Project
Downhill
Ott
We would obviously always dominate the chill outs @ festivals  Our compilations would be quite tasty too

I would sign new artists. The comon mistake so many new labels do is to sign all the "famous" artists so the can make fast money. By that they become a copy of other labels. Boring boring boring.
I would release quality over quantity (few but good releases) and find new inteersting bands in all genres of electronic music. Labels that only stick to one or two genres wont last long! And a label can easily release very variated music! It will only increase the number of potential buyers.
Then I would release physical CD's, DVD's and also sell on the internet via shops and a label shop that give the buyer free choise how to compile the CD/download. They can create their own cover design or download various different cover designs + they can get the music in various formats too. They can buy 1 track, 2 + and compile their own CD's + buy albums ect ect. basically it would be up to them to buy music the way they please.
And I would make sure I had finacilally backing and people around me that are professional - NOT amatures! |

Wise words Mr. HandA,
I suppose you are years in the music industry and you have realised that the customisation is number one priority in order to keep businesses to run!
I hope that Label "managers" will realise that in this era the consumers rules! So, please give us the possibility to customise/personalise our music tastes....

I'd call my label "NATIONAL ACROBAT PRODS"
I'd definitely sign

Mr peculiar

etc
but only for artist cds
I'd also make a sublabel which would be called
"PLANET CARAVAN recs"which will be specialised in compilations for newcomers(such as narcosis,decadent embrace etc)
and finally I'd make an another sublabel,called"LUNACY BOOTH" which would be specialised in mixed cds by the the best DJs of every genre!

I already have a name for my Label... every time i make a compliation for my self or my friends i call it a different name and i always sing up as Mind the Productions
