i´m also thinking about buying one for a longer time now, my thougts:
1. i have phoscyon as vst substitute, it does the job, i really like the results, especially for distorted tb patterns. however, it will not have the same organic feel to it as the original analogue has.. its lacks depth, texture and full body from what i hear compared to the analogue version
2. if you were to buy a clone, you´ve chosen the right one as tested here:

3. now if you really, really wanna buy it, maybe check ebay for nice price, lots off xoxboxes around most of the time:

4. but maybe most important for me: how much will i use it, and will it be good for my musical development (cause buying one will mean hours and hours of tweaking with maybe not so many results besides lots of fun  ), and the what could i spend the 400 bucks on to get more out of.. well thats up to you then i guess..

If you are into diy there are part kits for 299,- though 100 euro difference for a ready built one are not much. I was thinking about building one and sourcing the parts on my own to save a few bucks but I'm still working on too many other diy projects.

interesting clone.
this site really offers an easy way to compare the clones to the authentic 303. the xox sounded a bit thinner and certainly not as lively as the 303 on the saw wave pattern 1 example but the pattern 2 sample was already much better. so it seems to depend on the melody aswell how much the end result resembles the original. imo it sounds that the xox's portamento isn't as aggressive as the 303's...

Fuck Roland... why don't they just make 303 machines again?... I mean the original circuitry... they'd sell those like bread.
Nothing ever sounds the same than it... only real choice is to sample. |

I've had the luxury of playing with a very well made x0xb0x and I got to tell you, it's fucking addictive!
If you have the time, cash and knowledge to set one up I recommend it highly you will not be dissapointed!

I'm thinking of swapping my Nord Rack 2 for a X0Xb0X.
can't help it, but I'm really bored with my Nord.
Don't get any inspiring sounds out if really.
What are your thoughts on this, should I get rid of the Nord and get that Acid machine? |

no, save some cash and have both, the nord is as great as is the xox although ofcourse very different. software wont give you the sounds the nord has. |
