So I've got a fair wack of gear, but the one thing I totally am missing is a decent analog synthesizer. I had a Virus for a while and thought about buying it, but figured if I'm spending the money I might as well go analog.
I'd be using it largely for filter squelches and that kind of thing - stuff where analog just does sound superb.
So... what do people recommend? Serious posts only. I've never had the chance to fool around with anything other than a Roland SH-01 and a Korg Monotron.
My budget is... negotiable. So I'm looking for ideas! What would be a solid, great sounding buy? And why?

Doepfer Dark Energy all the way.
Why? Have heard the Virus TI, SH-101, Korg's lineup and even as unique as Moogs are (and as expensive), there is nothing as compact as this beast... and it's not a toy so there is a good chance it can blow your monitors out if misused. Find someone who has it and check it out, you'll be hooked, guaranteed.
Guy who has it out here did some great work using only this synth and battery.

Budget wise (from cheap to more expensive up to about 1000 euros)
Doepfer Dark Energy.
x0xb0x.
Moog Slim Fatty.
Oberheim Sem Pro.
They all squelch!
Peace out.

I initially wanted a moog but many producers that I respect have told me that it's extremely limited in addition to having way too few knobs
I'm probably going to go dark energy when my budget allows personally

I am also looking for an analog, slim phatty seems a good option but also Dave smith instruments Mopho and tetra. I am more convinved for tetra for polyphony and features, and you can add a mopho keyboard to gain total "hand on" control.

No one mentioned the MOnotron? Really?
Its 60 bucks US, its Korg, and its hackable i guess. and doesnt sound too effing bad, and is real analog in your pocket
I was suggested that this
http://www.vermona.com/index.php/en_monolancet.html
Might be a better alternative to the Dark Energy. I started a thread like this on another forum, saying that i plan on getting a dark energy and someone replied with that link, and a nugget of trivia regarding the DE;
Its got the same ADSR controlling both the filter and amp envelopes.
The Mopho is on my list for sure, and the slim phattys areound the same price
But seriously anyone into analog, do a favor to yourself, spend 60 US on a Monotron, just to play around with Why the hell not
(The Monotribe uses the same ribbon keyboard and circuitry i guess as the 'Tron and is another interesting analog piece)
Someday I hope to put together a monster cable-forest, maybe an A100 or a Buchla idk which yet (or first ).

Cause it has no midi.
I'd choose the Slim Phatty over the Mopho anyday of the week. Had an Evolver for about a year and although its not bad sounding and reasonably priced, the Moog sound is levels above, for my tastes anyway.
Peace out.

i still think the monotron would be a fun toy. Not really a serious studio piece, but a nice toy.
