Hi all,

It seems to me pp donīt wanna talk about this anymore, but I hv some questions... 190 is bad ok I agree... 256 seems to fool most people... but 320 I donīt believe that many people will notice itīs mp3...

Shrom, can u tell the difference between cd sound and 320 mp3?

Iīm not enforcing the habit of playing "stolen music" at floors, those are technical thoughts...

Burnt cdīs arenīt "stolen music"? Try and look any djīs cd case, are there only original cds?

It seems to me that it doesnīt matter what uīre playing, musical taste and feeling, sensibility to the responses and needs of the crowd will always be what makes a good dj...

Hving mp3 songs donīt make a dj, but owning lots of cds doesnīt also...

Iīm not a dj, nor a fan (with some exceptions), Iīm listener ... and thatīs the starting point for either...

We all got to be cooler about stuff... f#ck no one... eggs and tomatoes for the starving...

I just want to say that almost all the biggest labels are now licensed in brasil by various local record labels, and prices are affordable for eveybody (a cd will cost much less than entrance to a party...). So, let's stop with the story that is difficult to find original cds in brasil or they are expensive... Is true that everybody wants to be a dj, and to be a dj means starting djing at home playing trax from 5 original cds (I started playing trax from 2 original vinyls...), starting your collection, start to get the right connections (not the internet connections...) with the right people... not start to seat in front of a computer downloading trax from the net or exchanging with someone living in iceland by icq...           Edoardo @ Neurobiotic Records

Drope, when you look at almost all truly respected DJ cases, you'll see lot's of burnt CDs, but that don't mean they downloaded these tracks from soulseek.
Profissional DJs have access to unreleased tracks and promos (all in high quality) that labels and other DJs give to them, for "testing" the tracks at dancefloors... Some of these are burnt CDs...

ha, this is an emotional topic in portuguese forum too, becasue so many people call themselves dj yet are only mp3js.
its a fatalistic dialogue...those who download tend to not see it as a crime. they compromise the music industry, and even their favorite artists, not to mention the label, for their "DJ Careers" ...whatever that is...
the death of vinyl in trance has given way to a generation of djs, who have never even spent a penny on their collections, but are happy to take money for their sets...
thats where the problem lies.
sure the label owners have burnt cds, demos are burnt, and they are any labels most used equipment.

this forum is a good place for this conversation as it brings together the label guys, the artist, the consumer, and the djs to talk.
but, clearly we know what those who are trying to sell are thinking...its most defeating when you see your work passed thru tradersī hands and desktops, boosting only egos and careers, while you are living the poor artists existence that trance guarantees...

Edoardo, sorry man but thatīs not our reality, itīs very, very dificult to find original material here in Brazil, and when u find it u donīt have lots of options.

The way that u wrote gives the ideia that u can find lots and lots of original material here, wich is not true.
THIS IS NOT STORY MAN THIS IS PURE REALLITY. We hope that things
changes here soon...We are still waiting....

Ciao !!!

I don't agree with u, Gugha.
U can find original CDs here in Brazil for sure, but the point is: that isn't cheap!!!

And if u analyse, u spend lots of $$ in something that maybe in a few months won't be updated anymore. So, the best thing to do is to make contacts (people) that can help u to be introduced in the scene.

And to conclude, maybe a price of a cd here in brazil isn't expensive in other countries but here can be. U hv to take this proportionaly to the financial reality of the country. Anyway, it is the pure reality.

Agreed, on a home/car stereo its not easy to hear the difference. However, a good dj can tell the difference between wav & 320.mp3. Most importantly, on a clean & powerful sound system most people at a party will notice that the high end sounds are distorting, and some low end sounds are missing, ie you can't feel the bass so well.

Astral Mike,

When u know it, it doesnīt seems that difficult... thanks for the explanation...

it seems right, the louder and clearer the sound should be, the easier to pick up distorcions... Iīll pay closer ateieion to that... heheh

About the burnt cdīs... I canīt really talk about that with out starting a unending idealistic discussion about artistic property, filesharing and other stuff... better keep on quietly
