Problem with Universo festival was simple: all the Goa DJ/artists were asked to play tracks circa 1996, which are great, unbelievably great. But to make it work, Goa needs its own surroundings, atmosphere. And it was not a good blend of full-on playing next door to the Goa stage.
So, it was not a Goa problem, but a problem of logistics.
I do hope that Universe keeps Goa going on, but they need to start playing Nova Goa instead of old school Goa.

rao!

we can think goa trance is past. yes, it is. THAT goa. but its a light that never goes out anyway, and now a new breed of artists are bringing the classic goa vibes with new techniques. some call it new goa. and new goa, dude, its pretty alive and kicking. new goa = more melody, more magic on sound. some complexity too. think of fractals. and less formula, less predictable sounds. well, it doesnt come from india neither goa, but it has that kind of mood weve been used to. at the end of day it's pure out-of-this-world psychedelic trance! and we like it.

right now, new sound forms are being created by the likes of braincell, paramatma, aerosis, new cosmosis, atma, chi-ad, ITP, NK-47, e-mantra, more connected to a stoned open air experience. they are making stunning expansive music. inducing hypnosis. they keep psychedelia alive on a way full-on and other styles can not. looking into the past and creating the future, morphing into something new and pure.

techno is 20 years old. house is almost 30. and they kept evolving, making their own revolutions. the same with goa trance. it's under the radar but it's wicked. gorgeous. timeless. it has been always been. it doesnt matter it can not be seen as trendy. some artists are already listening to old music to bring new paths to the sound evolution.

goa is da shit, man!
