And there's more examples, but most I can think of are more into the deep/underground trance like Markus Schulz plays in his sets. (Although he plays Freq in his sets too nowadays)

Yeah, exactly, I love some of his sets too.
About the long tracks, I think it depends on style. Am... you know, fullon and more energetic style is very fast, there are short motives, a lot of effects etc. So it would be stupid if after all of that rush was some kind of 2 minutes with drums only But in more progressive (f.e. progressive house/trance) or minimalistic styles it's normal, because tracks aren't full on effects - it's flowing on the waves and long intro/outro are natural ways of beginning/finishing the track. And I love it!
And what can I recommend? Hm... for sure Banco de Gaia "Kincajou (Duck! Asteroids)" - 36.29 ambient track and also great journey on "and the day turned to night" by Shpongle

That Excession remix of the Opera track is more than 13 minutes, the original is 11:09. Just thought I'd clear that up

Anyway, here's some more long tracks:

Technossomy - V.T.O.L. (12:34)
Sandman - End Of The World (11:45)
Sandman - Starfinder (12:53)
Orichalcum - Elevation (21:07)
Nuclear Ramjet - Delta 1.60 (16:49)

And there's more examples, but most I can think of are more into the deep/underground trance like Markus Schulz plays in his sets. (Although he plays Freq in his sets too nowadays)

Tiesto is mainstream, as is Armin van Buuren. But Markus Schulz might play some mainstream tracks sometimes, but most tracks in his set are fairly underground and pretty long too. Armin and Tiesto have a habit of shortening the tracks in their sets to 5-6 minutes, but Schulz mostly picks the longer tracks and if he likes a track but it isn't in his style he makes a remix of it and then incorporates it into his set. For my ears he's one of the better DJ's out there. He always has a good flow in his sets and isn't such a showoff as other DJ's that are wildly twisting knobs and shaking their hands etc. which is just stupid.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. i dont think that llonger makes better. each track is different and must tell a different story. there are very good tracks at 12 minutes but also at 6 - 7 min, i dont think that really matters , what matters is how well the track is arranged and put toguether.

for sure

every track should be made without thinking of how long the track will be.. when its done its done.
track length doesnt matters, if you like it and you want more of it play it again

i've heard 5:00 minutes tracks that are for sure not worse than any other 9-15 minutes tracks.

why settle for a 25 minute track when u can have 80 minutes divided into 14 chapters as 1 full story ?

Most psy trance artists don't do solo albums, they submit tracks to compilations, especially when they are just starting to get their names out there. Most artists want to have lots of tracks to submit, so if they make one 20 minute track they have one track to submit. But if they make three seven minute tracks, that's possibly three times the exposure. From the labels point of view they want to have lots of good names on their compilations, so 7-8 minute tracks work in their favor as well.

Not speaking of the 3x money for three individual tracks? Might not be a static fact tough....

Since there are a lot of people who complain about the lack of innovation and evolution in psytrance these days, I think making 20 min tracks would be a nice step forward and would make for interesting live acts! I doubt DJ's would be too fond of that though

planet ben: trippy future garden
(from the album, not the edited version on comp.)

that's a looong (and trippy ) track
and works very well..

seriously: i had a strong sensation one day not long a go when i was in the woods... chilling that i must make a one track album. funny, that i now find this discussion here.
the dj solution is to insert track marks into the one big track so that the overactive dj can pick and mix these "mini tracks"
