I thought I pop this question up.
Somehow Sweden was always portrayed to me as a very liberal coutry that gives a lot of respect and freedom to its citizens.

And still I keep hearing how trance is nonexistent as a culture in the country which holds some of the best artists and producers around today.

When a guy from Swedish radio came to interview me a while ago about Israeli trance, he was totally surprised to see that there is so much Swedish trance in my CD racks, and that I appreciate the music being made in Sweden so much- he never heard of Atmos, Ticon, Son Kite, Logic Bomb or any of the other groups.

Your thoughts?           ---------------------------------------------

maybe it's too cold in sweden to have it's trance culture developed...
actually I've noticed in scandinavia the heavy metal and metal in general scenes are very developed. I sincerely do think it has something to do with coldness.

well, i think that the scandinavian members here should adderss this issue.
trance is being presecuted everywhere and anywhere, but i guess some are presecuted more than the majority. i think israel's trance movement came basically from a teenage rebellion against instetional conventions, somthing in sweden and the scandinavians never had to deal with (or had that repressed rather mildly).           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. I don't think it have anything to do with the weather. The point is the drugs ... the police and the politics don't like the drugs (and I understand them cause it's the law) and think that if people can dance to techno there will be more drugs.... this means that they think that they can solve all drugproblems with killing the dancescene
I believe that they are doing really wrong and like Shahar say it's really like killing a culture. It's also very sad cause there are a lot of very creative youg people involved in the dance scene and it's a pity that the society are killing this creativity instead of educate people about drugs.

But on another hand sweden is really open for all kind of music, art etc .... making the music is fine but you're not allowed to have the parties. We have got money from the gouverment to by equipment and pay our studiorent when we started to make music, many newpapers have wrote about Son Kite and both me and marcus have got shcolarship because of the music that we make.

This contradiction exactly is what so wierd to me. How do you explain this?           ---------------------------------------------

i think it more relates to the culture. as a metal fan, i can clearly see how scando-nordic metal is more popular and acceptable, as it depictes the history of that region, albeit there are some exeptions, such as occultic metal groups. i think trance there is more of an outside thing (IMO) as opposed to the metal scene, which is much more evolved and has the veteranship to fall on.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. ananda, what's your point? by your premise, i can connect trance to alchohol as well. i could also connect some of the greates painters of the world (Van Gough, who used to drink excessively while painting) with alchohol, but that doesnt automatically make all painters drunk, nor does it make all tranceheads stoners or metal freaks into sex fiends.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. drugs aren't leagal in many places but the ways to solve the drug problems are very different from place to place and I think that the swedish way is killing something very great and important.

may be i will ugly and it will be deleted soon but i think that they still dont have enough bad ppl in trance to make it worth to be commerzial and open to masses. goa freaks its goa freaks and sweedesh have enough of it (from all the festival i was i saw alot great sweden boyz and girlzzzzzz) but masses still (and hope will not) know what is trance about, criminal still prefer just discotek and litlle number of trance lovers can enjoy their music without all the negative cause.

I think it also may have something to do with the cultural differences between the Swedish and Israeli people. From my experience it is very hard to say no to an Israeli, which is what the police are doing to the Trance community. People still make parties and only a small percentage are shut down. After a couple of years of this cat and mice chase, the boys in blue are starting to understand that they are not going to win this war.
This is just my preconception on the issue, I don't know how many parties have been closed down in Sweden, but it sounds like the Swedes would rather just avoid the conflict from the beggining and go Party in Denmark, or Germany (maybe 2 far?) Good thing you have nice neighbors           Both teams played hard
