Well we all know full on is popular and we've got a billion plus minus one acts of which quite a few (imo) sound quite similar. Some call them copycats. This issue has been widely discussed here already. Now we all know acts like Hallucinogen, Son Kite and lets say Younger Brother are pretty popular too. Why is it that we don't see the copycat phenomenom taking place in their case, or actually why is it that this phenomenom only seems to be happening in full on?

In order to copy Hallucinogen,Son Kite and Prometheus you need to have a killer studio plus some music knowledge.
Just a PC and the small knowledge of operating Cubase wont lead you anywhere even close to that.
P.S Whoever has a killer studio and music knowledge doesnt copy anyone anyway,he just makes his own sound

Sorry mate, i would disagree strongly here.
Does names like Talpa, (Early) Infected Mushroom ring a bell to you?
First IM album was made with next to nothing, and it carries much more music than anything they were releasing afterwards with their fancy equipment. No doubt that sound has improved but the content quality declined. IMHO of course.
And Transwave, back in the days were creating amazing music. Much much better than the hi-tech teeth grinding sounds they make today. No disrespect here, progress and development yada yada, i know all the excuses...
Man, you just can't hide lack of talent and ideas with fancy outboard gear.

First of all Transwave and Infected Mushroom and even Talpa are just three names out of the thousands artists out there. We are looking at the majority out there not just the exceptions.
Secondly even if they wanted to,Tranwave and Infected Mushroom didnt have the opportunity to use a pc back in those days simply because there werent many pc's back then...
What i am trying to say here is that when Infected Mushroom produced their debut album back in 1999 just 30% of the world owned a computer and now in our days 80% of the world has a pc in his house (the numbers are not accurate but just trying to give you the main idea here).

Yes, nowadays we have a lot more artists due to the easy availability of PC's etc...
But come on! To stand out, you HAVE to have talent.
Than comes the question if u want to make reaaaally psychedelic music or just commercial POP psy.

well if it sounds crisp and professional, distinct sounds, different and good, and the most important of all, it works wonderfully for me, what the hell is the difference if its made on computers or 100000 hardware synths?
When I listen do a cd for the first time, I dont go looking: " oh, this artists has used a lot of synths, hmmmm.. Now I like his music more.. " that would be pretty stupid imo
no, I just listen and see how it works with me...
I dont research much who does their work with what, but I read bluetech´s interview and he said practically everything he does is with reaktor.. and it rocks... I guess there are more like him, but even if there arent, I still dont care.. if it works for me, its good |
