Who is buying it?? DJ? Do you prefer CD's over vinyl (i certainly do)

Id love to hear everyones opinion on vinyl/cd preferance (not arguements of what is better because that comes down to personal preference) and what you prefer to buy. Personally i dont like vinyl and i dont like it when a track i like is only released on vinyl (most of the time it ends up on a comp somewhere tho)..

Opinions please...           http://www.nervine-records.com

What you trying to achieve?

I find your lack of faith in vinyl disturbing           Within this timeless gathering,

A DJ with vinyl decks will say he prefers vinyl.
CD DJs will say they prefer CDs.

All right well I think the survival of vinyl is important, maybe only vinyl Djs can really appreciate, having handled them so much. Feels special. Its good promo for labels, nice sound and here in England where there club culture is so big, most places have vinyl decks too.
'Cos many trance DJs travel so much, the climate in hot places and the size of vinyl is a definite downside.

I play both CD and Vinyl and think its great to have both, just vinyl needs the support...CDs sell anyway to the consumer.

again, i step to defend...
VINYLS !
for djs or collectors vinyls is the only legal way to get unreleased stuff, if they are not connected in the right places, and nobody is connected everywhere....
the downside for me in vinyls is not the weight, with this i can handle... its the fact that a lot of labels, usually full on labels, dont release vinyls...
so i guess for me also cds are used to enhance my vinyls, to play friends stuff, and to play full on music.

well , my view of things is like that : vinyl is pretty expansive in the production and also as a buying consumer , if i buy a record 12" with 2 traxx on it for about 9 euro ( c.a price in germany ) its not a good deal compared to a cd with about 8-9 traxx for the price of 15-16 euro ....

or labels wich sell an Artist Album in the 3x12" each 12" for its own price ... thats crazy coz when you pay for each 12" about 9 euro then you are at about 27euro price for 1 album and thats way too much imo

and my personal opinion is that i dont really like vinyls becoz of the fact that anytime you will have the crackels and noises on it no matter how good you take care of it ... a cd is usaually always clear and massive in the sound ... and sure for travelling its more easy to take your cd case with you instead of a heavy record box or boxes ...

and "thx god" nowadays we have CD Player which have possibilitys to make such a good mix with as with a record player (maybe even better

i use both, no reason to be limited. For the most part, DJs who strictly use cds, are cheap asses. because most of them get there music from the net. You will get more respect from vinyl, even though a good DJ will still rock the party with either or. vinyl is here to stay. remember that. Radio DJs use dub plates and vinyl. the record industry will not let go of vinyl. no sir.

little insider tip -- chix see you working the vinyl with your hands... this is a very good thing ;-) dig?           -=Keep it Spiritual=-

I'm naturally a full supporter of the vinyl medium... it is a solid and substantial thing, even with the downsides. Economics and politics have played a huge role in nearly eradicating new vinyl production (just about all you hear on wax these days is progressive or non-psy I find). Its rather frustrating to find that there seems to be only one distributor in the entire scene that wants to deal with vinyl, and there's a word for that: monopoly. Too bad, it makes it difficult for labels to sell the wax and manufacturing is very expensive to begin with. So most labels give up on it, or don't even start... which just makes more people convert to CD since many of the best titles never make it to wax. A vicious cycle, you see!

After years of griping about the situation I chose to do something about this last year by putting out two songs from CHI-A.D. on wax and founding a label with a firm commitment to creating more vinyl (if possible)... if you'd like to hear more Goa trance on wax then I suggest you give our website a visit

this is exactly what i do, too.
why limit yourself?

there are trax available only on vinyl, and trax that are only available on cd. using both allows you to have the broadest spectrum of music to choose from.

Gotta buy both vinyl and CD. You have to do both media in order to play all the best tunes - sometimes it is just on one or the other.

I buy most of my trance on CD and my house/breakbeats on vinyl since the releases seem to come out that way for the most part. I end up putting all my vinyl onto CD before it is all over (backup in case of scratches and my turntables are temporarily stuck 10000 miles away from my home), but I always drag the vinyl out with me nonetheless.

I guess I prefer the CD medium slightly, but even if everything came out on CDs, I still doubt I would completely drop buying and spinning vinyl - I like being able to use either/or at my preference.

I'm not a dj, but I love vinyl! I love everything about it. Oohh the feeling of going through new vinyls in the record shop, the big size, and most of all, the coloration of the sound that happens when you press music to vinyl is just great. CD is nice too, but there is a difference in sound and I prefer vinyl.

I use the two of them and i like the two.
Because the two have their advantage and the two have some "probems".
I begin with vinyl, after i see some track that i can't have in vinyl,so i begin to play with the two.

ps for Zombie:My opinion about dat and md
is the md have a metallic sound , the dat have the best sound but you can't good pitch it, and for a traveler it's the best !!!
