i dont know if this has any relevance to all u out there, but being a visual junkie meself ive noticed that trance cd's dont actually put much effort into their cd's lately...

not to say that there arent some amazing examples out there, but all the cd's ive come across lately come in those paper sleeves that open up, <hard to explain sorry> but essentially, u open the case up and thats it, nada, nothing else. they basically dont allow for anything other than for outer graphics...long gone are the plastic cd cases which allow for front, back, and inner inlays, cd booklets, stickers...

i just feel dissapointed when i see those paperboard, el-cheap-o cd's with no added extras, no graphics, no sentiments from the artists, no thoughts, no photos...i feel robbed in a way. when i buy a cd i buy it to learn something new about the artists, and when it arrives...welll...bit of an anticlimax. OFCOURSE i bought the cd for the music, but dont u guys pride yourselves in how u visually portay yourselves as well?? i love pagin thru cd inlay's finding about more about the artist, their dedications, their insights, anything! the cover is a branded necessity of a cd. in general terms, yes i get the fact that there are no lyrics in trance tracks, hence no need for inlays... i like a 'full' looking cd, full of info, poetry, haiku's, pics, anything!

to illustrate my point with 2 examples: the last cd i found to be the richest in the artists's work, visually as well as musically, was Vibrasphere's "lime structure". and that was a LONG time ago...as well as Shift's latest album's artwork...beautiful stuff...what happened to putting effort into your album covers...??

I agree with you.

Recently I purchased 2 CD's with quite extensive booklets though: Son Kite - Colours and FREq - Strange Attractors. You might want to check them out - the music is also excellent in both cases.           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

I agree that a lot of labels don't put much effort into their booklets. But it's still being done. I think the design of the EST Sessions from Doof is pretty cool, and the new Electric Universe cd also has some kick ass fractal like artwork....

Prometheus - Robot-o-Chan

... the artwork is good, the design is original all the way through, and the back of the CD is probably the single most brilliant way to list tracks in the history of psytrance.

If you want some really wicked artwork though, Warp Rec. 10+3 compilation has a disturbingly simple design (my favorite CD artwork wise).           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

I also believe that artists/labels should put a bit more work in the cd booklets. by this way, they can also curb the mp3 download issue, making some incentives to buy the actual cd.
son kite's colours is really nice in this case. it has a really good informative booklet and also a sticker. what more could you want           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

There are some which are good, one that comes to my mind which i got hold recently is Tikal's Ritual Cycle Album [Neurobiotic Recs]. Fantastic art! Never stared at a cover for more than 5 minutes and admiring it

I agree about the cover design-wise. Excellent, stylish concept and the front was also slightly different than the one showed on Psyshop etc.

There was no real booklet though, which I found slightly disappointing – after all, it’s Twisted Records, and I always expect something out of the ordinary from them.

The music did make up for it though.          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

u're so spot on -Abatwa- ...it definately creates an incentive to buy the cd as opposed to just steal it off the net. there's nothing better than getting the real thing! maybe something artists can propel forward, and make an effort to entice people to cherishing their cd's again...

oh and kaz, anyhthing from warp records definately has a great look attached it, not only artist wise, but graphics wise as well           ****andmysoulsbeenpsychedelicized****

I found the Prometheus cover to be sparse and generally uninteresting.

What I'm happy about at the moment is that a cover from the old psynews.org contest seems to have been recycled for an actual release:

I like this one because it reminds me of the structure of the inner ear.

Still, they don't quite make 'em like they used to:

i agree, really cool artwork..but the inlay is really dissappointing....

i'd love to have a few pics, a biography, etc. in the booklets...           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

I agree with Anakoluth, i think everyone expects some pics, biography.....
Labels have to spend more money on the booklets if they want to try and fight the battle agains mp3.
